I normally applaud public apologies since they take a lot of courage, but this one is too little, too late, and reeks of insincerity.

Some of these wealthy, egotistical male politicians are really stupid sometimes. There was no single person in Bloomberg's camp to tell him his apology MUST appear to come from his heart, and he absolutely must memorize his words and MAKE them sound spontaneous?
What a FAIL. Let him spend his billions bad-mouthing Trump. Money well spent. But I don't see this candidacy going anywhere.

The simple answer is: Hooboy was an original, and for many years reigned as a monopoly. There are plenty of old-timers on that board who don't know any other escort board. And being from a distant generation, many of them are probably old Republicans, who spent a good deal of their life in the closet.
Men who like to talk about their exploits with male escorts are a weird and eclectic bunch. I suspect many are not fully out of the closet. It's a niche market, for sure, and there doesn't seem to be the numbers to support two or more thriving boards. Internet forum life is a numbers game, and most gay men like to swim in a sea of other men. When it comes to talking about man-on-man sex, someone's political views may not matter all that much. Furthermore, the politics forum is a separate place. Users don't need to read that shit unless they want to. Swim with the pol sharks at your own risk.
The big Daddy's health and financial well being are precarious. He's not going to last forever. I hear Benjamin Nicholas has been calling for donations. I never would have predicted that. Perhaps someone offered to re-link his blog. I suspect the big Daddy will handle the transfer of the board a bit differently than Hooboy. Imagine the board being run by Deej and all his multiple usernames also asking for donations. I'll pass. I'd rather talk to myself naked in a mirror.
Don't waste your time. Life is too precious to care that much. Every forum on the internet has a personality. The buck usually stops with the owner, but the mods are often gifted with great latitude, especially if they work for free.
You can't control people, especially the people footing the bill for your free speech pleasure. The best you can do is take caution when rubbing elbows with strangers, and take whatever pleasure you can find without trying to change the personality of the board's owner. It's the owner's playpen. He pays the bandwidth bill. He gets to run his board as he pleases.

Many years ago, when my lust for Benjamin Nicholas affected the stature of my rock hard erection, I offered frequent contributions at Hooville. I, too, was stunned by the number of right wingers on that board, especially in admin. Sources tell me that the old, bald queen known as Epigonos, also known for his (gag-me) deviled eggs, has no difficulty spewing his Republican views if he corners you at the PS pool party. I would have enjoyed smashing an egg in his face if he ever tried that with me.
I love talking politics with smart, informed people, but I tend to avoid political chit-chat on the internet. I don't recall Hooboy's politics. I tried to ignore Daddy's posts as much as possible, but I suspected he had strong political opinions that leaned toward a mix of Republican and Libertarian, a weird mix for sure. Add to that his love of sci-fi, and you got a crazy cake for sure.
Cooper the mod was an admitted Republican who claimed to enjoy placing dollar bills in a male stripper's ass crack. The picture in my mind of a White, cheap, fat, classist subjugator was always quite vivid. So I never hesitated to mock him, and I got banned for it. A personally proud moment, for sure.
I have a number of friends who vote Republican, but they're all heterosexual businessmen. NYC Republicans are their own breed. They're often selfish and greedy, so paying less taxes is their singular voting issue. They're not much interested in culture wars. I don't have any close gay friends who are registered Republicans. Never have in all my years in NYC. I'm not quite sure how I would make a close friendship like that work. I'm glad I haven't had to give it much thought.
I don't understand why any gay man would vote Republican, even if he's filthy rich. The way AIDS was handled by the Republicans in the 1980's was bad enough. The party's consistent homophobic, anti-gay policies, while many were sucking dick and taking hard cock up the ass in secret, is way too much damaging hypocrisy for any community to forgive and forget. In NYC, I'm often reminded of the expression, "self-hating Jew." I suppose there is also such a thing as a "self-hating gay."
There are plenty of studies available on the internet that look at why people vote against their own interest. Examples are evident in my own Midwest family.
Some parents are hard-core one way or another. And they raise their children to think in the same manner. Brainwashing the kids, and it works. Thankfully, my parents believed in free-thinking, so they did not try to control our minds. My dad voted for Ronald Reagan, but he also voted for Bill Clinton twice. My parents were registered Democrats, but they weren't always loyal to one party.
Racism plays a large role, but that's for another thread. I do hate the racists.
Recently, my gun-loving Republican cousin had to put her mother into a nursing home. In time, her mother's assets were depleted, and she faced two choices: pay out of her own pocket or sign her mother up for Medicaid.
When I tell you that my cousins are all staunch Republicans (they hate anything named Clinton), "crazed right winger" doesn't even touch the surface. Of course my cousin signed her mother up for Medicaid. With a few homes and a few boats, the thought of spending personal money was too much to endure. But here's the kicker: their red state was reluctant to accept Medicaid expansion in the ACA. Eventually, at great hoopla, their Republican governor accepted it. If it hadn't been for President Barack Obama, whom they hated, there would have been no option to put her mother on Medicaid.
I would love the opportunity to throw their hypocritical bullshit right back in their faces, but I have limited time left in my life and I'm too disinterested in fighting with assholes. I want to spend the last third of my life in the peace I create, so I decided to cut ties without telling them. I bought property in Italy, so it's very easy to escape family functions. "Sorry, I'll be in Italy."

I love the beauty of Phuket. But, I always have a Thai BF with me there to negotiate and EVEN then it is a PITA. I got around this years back when I started to hire a car by day and they stayed with me day and night.  It was well worth it as the taxi scams are a pain.  But, just about all vendors will try to upsell you on something.  It is often frustrating.  That said, if you have never been, it is magic and beautiful and a must see if you are new to Thailand.  For me, I have little desire for another visit.

On my recent visit a taxi driver wanted 800 baht but finally agreed on 500 baht.  when we got to the destination he demanded 800 baht and I refused. A discussion ensued and we were soon surrounded by several other taxi drivers who took my drivers side and demanded I give him the 800 baht.  I felt very physically intimidated and gave the money.  We had decided to go to an island off of Phuket the next day but I backed out because I just did not feel like it.  My friends negotiated a fee of 2500 baht but once at the island the boat driver demanded another 1000 baht or he would just leave them at the island.  They paid him.  The people of Phuket are shake-down artist and I'll have none of it.  I just wont go back.

I'm always open to having you discuss what to do to make this site better. The only way to improve is to listen to others and hear (not always act) on what they want to say.

Friendships are much different that love relationships. IMHO  I have many guys I am friends with that are escorts. Too many to count. And, some of them are my best friend. But, I also knew how to separate a friendship from a lover. I find compartmentalizing very easy.

Are we really talking about falling in love? Or are we actually talking about crushes?
If we are talking about falling in love, I am sure there are many different explanations in different circumstances, but I think we all agree it is just not wise. 
 
If we are talking about crushes, don’t you think all crashes are probably doomed to end badly? I may be wrong, but I bet you the rate of relationships based on a crush going to hell is similar with ow without a transaction is involved.
