I should post on here more, but when the virus dropped in march, all my int'l travel plans died, so I had less of a reason to be on here.
I'm still conflicted about the ethics and safety of visiting Mexico City and other open regions in Mexico right now, but I really want to go back sooner rather than later.

Hopefully things can improve quickly. I am planning to visit South America in Oct or November. Sorry to hear that you had to cancel your trip.

I am a big fan of Avianca in Colombia.  The discount airlines can be problematic (won't bore you with the details) so be certain that Easyfly or Viva Air are the best option/schedule before booking. They are generally reliable, but from experience when things go wrong (weather, delays, etc.) then the service falls apart.
Most Colombian business people swear by Avianca and their lounges are very popular and busy.  Because most flights inter-city in Colombia are around the hour mark, it is generally not worth the extra money to fly business class.  I find the economy service on most Aviance flights is superiour to many North American routes. The additional cost isn't worth it.

When booking domestic flights on Avianca switch your location to Colombia on the home page of the website(you can then view the site in either english or spanish). You will pay in Colombian pesos but will generally save significant money vs the USA version of the site even if your credit card changes a conversion fee(my Capitol One card does not).

We fuss and argue with each other and enjoy reading about each others experiences but at the times we are living in, I want to make sure that everybody is doing OK...
Praying for the WORLD right now especially the US were we seem to be majorly fucked up in so many ways but still blessed compared to other places

I just returned from 10 days in Colombia and I thought I would share my experience. It was my 4th or 5th time to Colombia and as always had a great time.
Bogota--Arrived late Friday in order to enjoy Teatron on a Saturday night. As many know Teatron is the large nightclub that is truly amazing. Many floors and rooms for dancing and music. The top floor is men only and has naked strippers. Others have suggested that they might be available but I am not so sure. Very little opportunity to talk with them as they are on and off the stage pretty quickly. My local friend says that they have more strippers on Tuesday night than on the weekend--but my favorite night to visit is Saturday when all of the club is open and there is plenty of eye candy in the crowd.
As far as hookups--Grindr is the way to go in Bogota(and really all of Colombia). Lots of free offers-- and the working guys in Bogota seemed to be happy with 70-90,000 pesos. There is a Sauna called Saint Moritz that has massage available but every time we visited the massage guys had already left around 6-7pm. If that is what you were looking for then get there earlier like 4-5pm. That seems to be the peak time for Saunas in both Bogota and Medellin.
Bogota has a lot to see and you should not miss the view from Monseratte--ride up on the tram or funicular. I stayed at the Novotel--no problem with guests and they take a copy of the ID at the front desk. A friend had multiple guests over the course of the trip and they did not charge him extra with a double room booked. Very nice hotel, great breakfast and good neighborhood.
Medellin--Medellin is a beautiful City with a great climate. I stayed at an airbnb in a nice neighborhood called Laurelles--lots of trees and good places to eat. I have some warnings about Medellin that really apply to everywhere in Colombia--more on that later.
Lot's to see in Medellin including the Botanic Garden in the city--and a large park outside the city called Park Arvi. Park Arvi is accessed but the Metrocable which is the tram that acts as mass transit around parts of the city. Getting there involves a few different changes between lines but is really easy if you google the instructions. 
There is a very fun, clean and beautiful sauna called Club 55. This is not a working boy sauna but they do have massage available that I'm told rapidly turns into something else. Again all of the massage guys were gone by 7. The very friendly, cute, and frisky locals tell me that peak time for the sauna is like 5-6pm. It has a bar, jacuzzi and is very clean and modern. You can definitely have fun for free here.
Several hot working boys on Grindr in Medellin--they seem to want more than Bogota--like 150000pesos ($43).
Medellin is where two people close to me had potentially serious problems within 24hours of each other. In the first situation a good friend from the US who lives there, fluent spanish speaker,  and is very savvy about having guys over was drugged and robbed by someone he met online and invited to his apartment. He has lived there for over 10 years and this was the first time anything like this had ever happened. He spent the night in the hospital but is fine now. In the second incident I met a guy on grindr and we had a hot time. I'll admit I took a chance by having him back to my airbnb but I felt comfortable enough with the guy enough to refer him to another friend who was traveling with me. My friend wanted to meet up with the guy and they agreed on a price to meet up. This is where my friend made a big mistake. He agreed to go to they guy's nearby apartment(also in a nice neighborhood) and the guy who had just hours before been nice and friendly with me became very aggressive with my friend and took the money that they had agreed on up front and then demanded more before he would do anything. When my friend (a native spanish speaker) decided to just leave--this guy blocked his exit and started screaming and demanding more money even though they hadn't done anything. My friend gave him another wad of cash and beat a quick retreat. It easily could have escalated into something worse. In all cases this could have been avoided by following the usual safety measures talked about on this board. The reality though in Medellin is that many hotels do not allow guests and "love motels" are not that prevalent or are located in Centro far from the areas where most people stay. I'm not sure what the best solution is for Medellin in this regard.
Barranquilla and Carnival--I have some younger friends that live in Barranquilla that I wanted to visit and this was an ideal weekend because it was Carnival there. I have been to Cartagena many times and enjoyed it but this was my first trip to Barranquilla. Carnival was in the air as I landed at the airport and the beer companies were passing out cans of beer to arriving travelers on the way to baggage claim. I have never been at an airport where I had drank two free beers before I had claimed my luggage! Barranquilla is a pleasant city and I stayed in a nice high rise air BNB with security at the front desk--but they let my friends pass by as long as they were with me. These are guys I have known since they were college students and are now in graduate school and working and I trust 100%.
The carnival in Barranquilla is a big deal and last year there were over a million visitors. Prices for hotels and apartments go up just like Rio. The highlight of carnival is a big carnival parade on Saturday in centro. I relied on my local friends advice and we all got an early start on Saturday to go watch the parade. Unfortunately the area is for the most part blocked off with high barriers that block any view of the parade unless you buy a ticket to a private seating area. Those tickets were being sold by scalpers for upwards of $100usd per ticket. In the end we gave up on watching the parade due to the crowds and heat and the fact that we were unable to find any public viewing area that was accessible. My friends complain that each year the viewing area open to the public for free gets less and less and more of the parade is blocked from view by barriers. From what I did see though the parade in Barranquilla focusses more on colorful costumes and dancing than on the elaborate floats and displays at carnival in Rio. 
Like carnival in Rio there are street parties but these are more enclosed events where you pay admission as opposed to the free bloccos in Rio which are more open and free flowing. 
The biggest difference--and for me this is huge--is that in Barranquilla despite the heat at Carnival I did not see a single guy with their shirt off whereas in Rio the display of shirtless male bodies is a big plus! Culturally I think the Colombians are much more conservative about their dress and keeping themselves covered up in public. 
We had great fun at a big open air gay club called The Patio which was packed with cute guys dancing to latin music all night. I was the only gringo there. There is another club in Barranquilla that my friends told me about that plays electronic/pop music but I do not recall the name and I did not visit. I didn't hook up in Barranquilla as I with friends but plenty of cute guys in the club were eager to meet, practice their english, and make out for a while. I would mention that casual cocaine use is common amongst many Colombians of all classes and it is a bit shocking to see how openly used it is in the clubs--no attempt made to hide it from security. I do not do any drugs at all but my Columbian friends tell me that it's not a big deal there --kind of like having a joint or a cigarette.--still I would stay away from it if you are tempted.
I love Colombia--great people, hot guys, beautiful scenery and many different regions to explore in a relatively small country. I still prefer Brazil for the open display of bodies everywhere in Rio and the safety of fun in the saunas there. For a true Carnival experience nothing beats Rio despite some of the hassles and security concerns. I will continue to visit both countries for all of their charms!
 

I have finalized the cities and will buy airfare this weekend. Below are the cities I'm visiting and how long I'll be there:
Medellin: 7 nights Bogota: 5 nights Cali: 4-5 nights Cartagena: 2-3 nights I also want to meet these guys if possible, but don't how to talk to them when I email/DM them:

i second the recommendation that Cartegena is worth 3 days max unless you want to venture to beaches outside. Loved Medellin for it's people and all the little towns surrounding it. Highly recommend a prolonged coffee farm trip if you like coffee. Jardin and Jericho is amazing, and stay overnight or more. Don't miss Andres de carne outside Bogota for the wackiest decor but decent food. Fun night.
Would be interested to hear how things are without Uber...i couldn't imagine my trip without it..the safety and peace of mind it brought.

@curiousnature12 I have stayed in an Airbnb in a apartment building next to the Cali Marriott you mention! I had an apartment with an amazing city view on the 13th floor for 35USD/night. Why would you stay in an overpriced hotel where it is more of a hassle to bring a steady flow of boys if you van have your own private place for a quarter of the hotel rate? 
What do I do during the day when NOT meeting boys.....huh? Meeting boys of course! Boys are ready whenever you want it! Besides that: visit the old church hill, the promenade, the parque or Chipe Chape shopping mall. Cruising the promenade bring back great memories...
 
In my opinon: 5 days Bogota CAN be sufficient. Big city sure, but only 10% is worth it / safe.
And you will more than just architecture in Cartagena...trust me . Very very humid though...that is true.

I don't necessarily think a tour guide is necessary. I would say just talk to a few guys on Grindr or other gay dating apps and meet for food (it's a great way to gauge if there are any chemistry and connection. If there is none, both parties can part ways after food without feeling hurt. You are in a foreign country after all, so it's better to keep the fuss at a minimum level. I would say do not go for drinks because who knows if your drinks could be compromised). Many guys are very friendly and love to show you their culture if you can cover transportation, food, and entrances to museums. I met a couple nice guys just for sightseeing. I got quite lucky maybe because I was the extreme minority and exotic person there, or just because Colombians are  horny. 
Some other members might have commented on it, but neither Bogota nor Medellin has a large Afro/dark population. You may want to try Cali instead. Paisa have much lighter skin. 
Final note. I notice that you have like 4-5 days in Bogota. I don't think that's enough since Bogota is a huge city. But again, I am a slow traveler. But something you may want to keep in mind. 

Currently in Medellin and I really am not feeling the men here. The guys on the streets are hot, even the homeless Colombian guys, but the guys you can actually have fun time with are just so so. Club Tobi was a complete bust there were no guys there at all biggest waste of money to enter a venue in my life, the hot tub was a lukewarm tub, it was so so sad. Went to Ferchos as well the guys are just not what you want, I pretended I was super drunk so I could leave this dude who was chatting me up, there was no way in hell I was going in a private room with him. CAVEAT (This is a Thursday/Wednesday adventure so far and it could be completely different tomorrow). Grindr dudes are gross, it's like how the ugly stripper gravitates to you and you think how the fuck are they working here and what makes him/her think I'm interested, can't they see I'm purposely avoiding eye contact. I get messages from scorts all the time and I didn't even post I was looking for scorts, literally all I said is I am visiting and my Spanish is bad. If you do go with one of these dudes, meet them somewhere public first because they are quick to try and come to your spot but with fakes or real pictures that are photo shopped to make them look taller and more muscular. You do not want to try and get rid of a dude who traveled to you and now expects some type of payment for traveling even though you requested a whole other person than who showed up.
Also, those guys that are on the other side on the Cathedral on calle 57a  & Oriental are not really dangerous. They are refugees from Venezuela that are doing "odd jobs" for money. I was the first American they met and they were actually nice, just practice some caution but you should do that anyway. If you show people decency they won't usually try to hurt you in my experience. Additionally, Parque Bolivar is under construction and the Cathedral steps are largely inhabited by refugee Venezuelans and the side walks are strewn with people from there after dark, It's really is a sad situation. Now I will preface I am a big man who would hardly go down without a fight, which is why I usually get to go to the most dangerous drug infested cartel areas with no problems, and have never been mugged.The funny thing is all the people keep telling me to be safe, even the people that are supposed to be the danger.  I did have my passport stolen in TJ in El Centro but the motherfucker came in the room in a moment of passion with someone else and grabbed my pants and hauled ass out of there. If I see his ass again it's on like Donkey Kong. 
So while the sexy-time here is not the paradise that people on other posts have stated, Medellin is still really a cool place to visit with a great bar scene. The people are genuinely nice and honest people and are not racist. I will say that there is some type of institutional bias in the country as you can see Afro-Latinos aren't in many positions of power but everyday racism like in the Good Ole USA is not here and sudo-segregation is not practiced like it is in Chicago and other parts of the US . My suggestion is to stay away from Poblado it's nothing but gringos and the things that people think gringos like, such as MacDonalds, Dominoes, Subway, Hooters, ect.. If your an American you will hate the way you see your people behave here so I say go local so you don't see tourists and the trappings of tourists. The police are everywhere here, they are actually great, really professional but also laid back unlike the corrupt cops you can get in Mexico. 

As Uber is ceasing operations in Colombia at the end of January, has anyone checked into local taxi firms and their rates compared to the cost of hiring a car and driver for the day in the various cities?

Bogota and Cartagena are great. Medellin is pleasant but I did not find it that culturally interesting. Because so many Colombians have put in experience at the best restaurants in Europe, there are phenomenal Michelin-bait restaurants in Medellin and Bogota at half to 1/3 the price of a comparable meal in the U.S.  There are many beautiful historical towns: Villa de Leyva (near Bogota), Santa Fe de Antioquia (near Medellin), Mompox (not near anything but so much atmosphere and history), more. And if you have the time, inclination, and tolerance of mosquitos, Ciudad Perdida is Colombia's answer to Machu Picchu and requires a 4 day hike into the jungle near Santa Marta.

First of all, good choice of going to Colombia! I was in Bogota in Nov for a little over a week. I originally planned to visit Medellin or Cartagena, but some hiccups happened, so I ended up spending all the time in Bogota. 
If you enjoy the cultural stuff, I would highly recommend Museo del Oro, Museo Botero (even though I don't his aesthetics at all), and Museo Nacional de Colombia. I am sure there are some others you can see, but these three are a must. Historical sites are mostly in the downtown La Canderlaria area. Also Iglesia Nuestra Senora de Lourdes in Chapinero. You can go to the Mercado de Las Pulgas in Usaquen (it's only open in Sunday). Monserrate is also a must, but make sure you pick a good day. Otherwise, it's foggy and drizzling up there. 
In general, local guys' English is limited. But I did end up meeting three guys who had studied abroad, so that made the experience a lot more enjoyable. 
Since you mention you have to work remotely, how much time on average per day do you need to allocate to work? I wish I could travel like a digital nomad, but sadly I was there on vacation. 
Finally, as for guys, what are your aesthetics? That I believe is also a factor in deciding how you wish to spend your time. 

I am afraid I have little insight regarding guys in Colombia as my visits have been with friends.  There certainly are many gorgeous ones everywhere though!  You may prefer focusing on bigger cities, but I would highly recommend Jardin (about 4 hours from Medellin) if you wanted a couple of days in a smaller town. It is a charming place located in beautiful, lush countryside (heart of coffee production). It was definitely a highlight for me and anyone I know who has visited.  Again, it probably won’t be a hot spot for any type of action but I think most would enjoy it (especially if you like a mix of bigger and smaller places on a trip).

Bottom line, would you go back and visit Cuba again? Would you recommend that people should visit, given the precautions and restrictions with being a tourist and meeting the locals?
 
 

Basic rules (obvious) No public sex, no porn and no obvious sollicitations. Keep secret what the boys are doing in private.
Prior to travelling

Better to bring condoms and lube in sufficient quantity as it can be difficult to find locally. 
Insurance 
Travelers from US are covered by insurance the price of which is included in the price of the ticket. Visitors from Europe need to buy a specific insurance. Visa Gold card holders can obtain on line a document confirming they are duly insured. 
Change
At arrival at airport outside the airport on the right. Change USD or Euros into CUC. Rate is 1 CUC = 1 USD. Many ATMs can be found in La Havana accepting Visa credit card. 
1 CUC = 25 CUP = 25 MN (Moeda Nacional).
Weather
In December, the weather is cooler and not as good for the beach but it seems very nice in January but can be chilly & windy and many of the guys return to their provinces (Indeed in end of December - beginning of January, I did not see that many boys).
Safety
All visitors consider that it is really safe to be in the streets, even late at night, respecting common sense rules. I went back home in Vedado often very late at night (2 am) without any problem. The largest dangers might be car accidents and uneven pavements with many large holes and poor street lightning in many areas. I experienced only one problem with a rather agressive young drunk cuban in a shop. I spoke to people nearby and they managed the guy. 
Internet
Wifi in Cuba is difficult. Buy wifi card to be used at wifi spots (many parks, hotels, ...). It can be bought at airport, at booths in the street, at hotels. Some Airbnb flats have wifi (you need to have a wifi card though, but you have permanent access to wifi in your apartment which is quite convenient).
People (and yourself) are not permanently on line so exchange of messages can be long and tedious. 
Gay sites
Gayromeo is available and (relatively) pretty much used. Grindr is blocked not because of Cuban government but because of US government.  Better to meet guys at the bars or in the street, "but offline cruising can be also time consuming and require patience, language skills, and most important, luck"
Where to stay
(SolaceSoul) : "Get yourself an additional casa particular or arrange a room at a casa where the host doesn’t mind guests having Cuban “visitors” (check with the host in advance). You can also just wait until you get to Cuba and ask around — there are plenty of Cubans that are renting apartments and rooms as a side hustle, and many don’t mind if the foreigners have Cuban guests (with restrictions, usually they must present their ID and the name must be written in a book, by Cuban law). Cuban locals are restricted from visiting hotels.
In addition (Meteorb) :  "there are plenty of short time casa particulars nearby, 10 CUCs for one hour".  "there are many sex motels around (actually just homes of local people). The guys all know at least a place to go. Some houses advertise in spanish "rooms to be rent by hour or by day" 
Places to visit
If it is your first stay in La Havana, taking the red bus HavanaBusTour line T1 leaving from Parque Central in Centro Havana is certainly a good start. You can hop on hop off during a whole day and have a good view of major touristic sites.
Out of beaten tracks is trying to better understand "Santeria". 
Santería, also known as Regla de Ocha, La Regla de Ifá, or Lucumí, is an Afro-American religion of Yoruba origin that developed in Cuba among West African descendants. Santería is a Spanish word that means the "worship of saints". Santería is influenced by and syncretized with Roman Catholicism.  You can do so by going on the other side of the La Havana bay to museums in Regla and in Guanabacoa using the ferry or bus 15. Another Santeria museum is located in Central La Havana close to hotel Saratoga, in front of Parque de la Fraternidade (very close to Capitolio).


Gay places to visit 
According to Whynotcuba : "There are a lot of places you can go to. If you want something more high end and expensive, I can recommend Cafe Cantante or Tablado (in the Gran Teatro de la Habana). It depends on the day of week, both of them its on Thursday. If you want to spend a bit less money you could go to Las Vegas. They have drag queen shows every day of the week. Drag queens are fun to talk to, some of them have the most masculine day jobs. There are a few private bars too, like XY (Thursdays there is a comedian there, lots of gay jokes), El Essencia and El Bar Pasillo.
If you are really really low on funds go to the corner of Infanta and 23 close to Las Vegas. Saturdays and Sundays people go to Las Vegas."
According to SolaceSoul : "At night I went out to the usual spots - Las Vegas (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are when Imperio performs and the best nights), Karabali on Wednesday, Cafe Cantante on Saturday" + Cafe Cantante was really good as usual, it is probably the biggest gay party of the week.  Lots of cute guys, a lot of transgender girls hang out there also".
My personnal experience on Las Vegas was disappointing. On Friday nite for instance, I arrived at 10 pm (Las Vegas opens at 11 pm) and sat down in nearby Toke Cafe, outside and close to the street. Perfect location : boys indeed came to discuss with me, and I could invite to join me for a beer first whomever I had a good feeling with. I did not really like any of them and waited to be inside Las Vegas hoping to have a better choice inside. Wrong move ! Maybe because it was very beginning of January, but most of people inside were parties of 2 to 4. Single guys were just a few. A few came to me, immediately very friendly, putting their arms on my shoulder but none attracted me at all. I watched the crowd and spotted a cute guy in his 30s. I went close to him but he was a customer and not at all interested in me. I then spotted another one. Cute. Manly. Since it was extremely crowded, it took me some time to be close to him. When I arrived, a cuban was already speaking to him and they left soon after. :-(( Better to find someone outside of Las Vegas, pay his entry fee and drinks and enjoy the evening with someone you like, which I did the saturday.

Gay night club Karabali on La Rampa only certains nights.  Bilatin mentions there are drag shows and stripper shows. 
Night Club ??  on Thursday nights near Parque Central close to the Inglaterra Hotel 
Bar La Esencia (Calle B between 21 y 19, Vedado) (not visited) : various feasts on mondays including drag queen shows. Other days are gayfriendly with people dancing in this nice mansion on cuban musics. Opens at 6 pm for great cocktails.
Bar Fresa y Chocolate and Cine Club Diferente on Calle 23 (intersection wih 12). Nice bar worth a visit. It is supposed to hold, once a month, one of the biggest regular gatherings of LGBTI Cubans and friends. I was told it was the second tuesday of each month and I went there that day. But dates have been changed and it seems it is now on sundays. The cine show movies tackling themes of sexual diversity—some quite polemic. Past screenings have included Outrage, Harvey Milk, ... The name comes from the movie Fresa y Chocolate (strawberry and chocolate) which was a cuban gay movie from the beginning of the 90s.

Waiters are cute and bare chested. On saturdays it opens at 9 pm and later there is a show, a mixture of drag queen, erotic, sexy aerobics, ...
Beach
"When you go to Cuba, make sure to check out the sanddunes at Mi Cayito beach Saturday and Sundays are the best days to go.  There is a trail that goes through the sanddunes, but you have to walk east a little ways from the main entrance to get to it". 
Mi Cayito in Boca Ciega has a gay flag next to the Cuban flag. It has about 10 km of beach. I also heard from someone that in Cayo Santa Maria a new hotel opened, just for gay tourism (from Whynotcuba).

To go there : taxi (30 minute cab ride from Havana) or there is a cheaper option which is a tourist bus HabanaTourBus line 3 that leaves every 40 minutes from Parque Central in Old town. You must leave bus at last bus stop (Hotel Atlantico - bus stop number 6).
Walk to the beach and then follow the beach on your right until Mi Cayito Boca Ciega which is indicated with a gay flag. It’s about a fifteen minute walk. At the beach there is a local restaurant, Las Palmitas, where you can get good cuban food and drinks at reasonable prices.

Service : average : 20/30 CUC. Can go down to 15 or even 10 and up to 40 and more (locals pay 5 to 20 CUC) . No discussion as in Brazil on what is going to be performed and for how much. 
Average monthly salary for Cuban is 25/30 CUC, with little variation according to job or education level.

In popular feasts, it is not easy to be sure if we talk of CUC or CUP. 
Sometimes price in CUP for cubans is the same as in CUC for foreigners (eg Museo de la Revolution : 8 CUP or 8 CUC). Sometimes it is different as in Teatro Nacional ...

Cine Yara : 2 CUP (I was not sure if, as a foreigner, I could pay only 2 CUP so I gave my smallest bill in CUC ie 5 CUC. The lady at cashier looked desperate as it was corresponding to entrance fee of 60 persons, same as if you were paying entrance to cinema in Europe with a 500 Euros banknote ... So I gave my 2 CUP. No doubt my cheapest movie ever !
