If I had a choice between Morocco and Tunisia i'd go with Tunisia when it comes to sex with locals.  I had no problems with the three guys I hooked up with in Tunis (unlike Morocco as I described in my post).  The men are every bit as hot and horny as in Morocco, but I found at least online you are more likely to find just everyday guys looking to hook up in Tunis and less hustling than in Morocco.  Nicely equipped too!

I just think it is a pretty blanket statement to 'stay away' from locals in M.E countries.  Truth be told I've been to Morocco and Tunisia and I have certainly had my fun.  Yes, I had issues with locals in Morocco but in retrospect, I let my horniness get in the way of rational thinking.  I should have been more cautious and met with guys first before just bringing anonymous guys into my apartment.  I was asking for trouble.  So, i'm not sure staying away completely just because there is risk works for everyone and there are things you can do to mitigate risks.  You can never eliminate risk completely in any instance.  There is fun to be had but you have to be aware and cautious, careful.  It is hard to do that because temptation is so strong but I would approach things differently if I went back to the Maghreb - especially Morocco for reasons I posted about.
I've been to Jordan and had zero problems with the locals there so this is why I say it may be a bit extreme to just advise people to stay away from muslim countries.  Legally though, yes it is more risky than other parts of the world and this is a personal choice a guy has to make, but he should make it as informed as possible.  The key is being smart and being discreet.  There is a vast gay underground in the muslim world but you must keep things on the D.L.  In no circumstance should you make it public..  That is the fastest way to get in trouble.
As far as just hooking up with them in Europe well - there is also the cultural experience and the exotic allure of visiting and meeting with locals in the native country.  That is as if not more appealing than simply having sex with a Moroccan or Tunisian in Paris.

It is highly unlikely that a westerner would have capital punishment applied to them in Morocco and Egypt.  It is even unlikely that Moroccans and Egyptians would be punished with death for homosexuality in their own countries - though being jailed is likely.  I wouldn't make light of it though, there is certainly a legal distinction between Latin American countries and Muslim countries when it comes to homosexuality.  I find this anxiety is no longer as exotic as it used to be but that is me.  I certainly think people should be very clear eyed about the legal risks engaging in homosexuality in Muslim countries.  The risks are real and certainly more present than most other parts of the world.

As someone who has been to Morocco multiple times, I think the OP's observations are spot on.  The fact that tourism has exploded in the last decade or so, especially in Marrakech makes the matter worse.  You are viewed as simply a conduit for money.  Not all Moroccans are like this, but unfortunately, so many are.
I would say 80 percent of the guys I hooked up with in Morocco in one way or another engaged in some sort of deceit.  As soon as the experience was finished, that is when the shoe drops and they come at you from left field either wanting money, even if no money exchange was discussed at all, or they are wanting more than agreed to.  I had two experiences where the guy refused to leave the place until I gave him more than what was bargained for.  It then became an almost endless haggle to agree upon an amount just to get them out of the place.  Let alone pretty scary actually.  You have someone in your apartment, that shouldn't even be there whom you don't know and who you can't report unless you are willing to be scrutinized yourself for doing someone in a country that Is strictly forbidden.
This leads me to why Morocco is so tricky in these instances.  Homosexuality is illegal.  There are no rights and you can go to jail for practicing it.  Hotels will not allow unregistered guests in.  They are not legally allowed to do this.  Any stories of a hotel 'allowing' or turning a blind eye to this I would look to with suspicion.  There are a lot of legal risks for a hotel to allow a foreigner to host some hot Moroccan man.  So that leads to really the only viable solution for a foreigner to host a Moroccan and that is in an apartment  Most buildings have security/guardsman so depending on that person will mean the difference between being able to host in your apartment or not.  Sure you could bribe security but its a risk.  There are a few places you can get with no security or guardsman.  This is the easiest way to ensure you'll have no problem even getting a guy into your place (hopefully no prying eyes are watching), but it is also the most risky because you are most vulnerable and the guy knows this.  Some unfortunately will take advantage.  If you don't give them what they want they will use this against you.  They'll tell you homosexuality is illegal, they'll refuse to leave without an outrageous amount of money and yes, some are willing to be violent about it.
So who has more to lose.  Well the OP got into that well.  You need to have a steely nerve to deal with some of them and they are used to a hard life and using hard tactics.  I've been to a few dozen countries and have met men in pretty much all of them and nowhere else have I had as many negative experiences with local men, be it escorts or just men in general than in Morocco.  For me, i'm done with it.  Simply isn't worth all the effort and there is a real risk of having a really bad experience with a guy and you are completely vulnerable.
So - it is too bad because Moroccan men are among the most beautiful in the world and they are usually very well equipped, but all the difficulties and anxiety associated with it for me is no longer worth it.

If you have the time to do a drive down to Cuenca, a smaller version of Quito (I've heard a few people say Cuenca was what they had expected Quito to be), you will see some of the most gorgeous scenery in South America along the way, including the valley of the volcanoes (weather-permitting, of course, as it can be rainy and cloudy in the Andes). The highway is now very good and the drive can be done in about 6 hours. However, if you break it into 2-3 days, you can also detour to the Quilotoa crater lake for more deserty scenery or to Banos for a more jungle/tropical feel. An hour up the mountains from Cuenca is the Cajas park, a high altitude moor-like watershed with lakes and orchids and fresh trout. Honestly, I know of few other countries with such incredibly diverse and beautiful scenery crammed in a small area, and we haven't even talked about the Galapagos Islands yet. But I can't help you much on the more carnal attractions.

I thought I had read somewhere on this forum that Club Tobi had closed. My local friends weren’t sure and since my time in Medellin was limited I didn’t check it out.

I just returned from 10 days in Colombia and I thought I would share my experience. It was my 4th or 5th time to Colombia and as always had a great time.
Bogota--Arrived late Friday in order to enjoy Teatron on a Saturday night. As many know Teatron is the large nightclub that is truly amazing. Many floors and rooms for dancing and music. The top floor is men only and has naked strippers. Others have suggested that they might be available but I am not so sure. Very little opportunity to talk with them as they are on and off the stage pretty quickly. My local friend says that they have more strippers on Tuesday night than on the weekend--but my favorite night to visit is Saturday when all of the club is open and there is plenty of eye candy in the crowd.
As far as hookups--Grindr is the way to go in Bogota(and really all of Colombia). Lots of free offers-- and the working guys in Bogota seemed to be happy with 70-90,000 pesos. There is a Sauna called Saint Moritz that has massage available but every time we visited the massage guys had already left around 6-7pm. If that is what you were looking for then get there earlier like 4-5pm. That seems to be the peak time for Saunas in both Bogota and Medellin.
Bogota has a lot to see and you should not miss the view from Monseratte--ride up on the tram or funicular. I stayed at the Novotel--no problem with guests and they take a copy of the ID at the front desk. A friend had multiple guests over the course of the trip and they did not charge him extra with a double room booked. Very nice hotel, great breakfast and good neighborhood.
Medellin--Medellin is a beautiful City with a great climate. I stayed at an airbnb in a nice neighborhood called Laurelles--lots of trees and good places to eat. I have some warnings about Medellin that really apply to everywhere in Colombia--more on that later.
Lot's to see in Medellin including the Botanic Garden in the city--and a large park outside the city called Park Arvi. Park Arvi is accessed but the Metrocable which is the tram that acts as mass transit around parts of the city. Getting there involves a few different changes between lines but is really easy if you google the instructions.
There is a very fun, clean and beautiful sauna called Club 55. This is not a working boy sauna but they do have massage available that I'm told rapidly turns into something else. Again all of the massage guys were gone by 7. The very friendly, cute, and frisky locals tell me that peak time for the sauna is like 5-6pm. It has a bar, jacuzzi and is very clean and modern. You can definitely have fun for free here.
Several hot working boys on Grindr in Medellin--they seem to want more than Bogota--like 150000pesos ($43).
Medellin is where two people close to me had potentially serious problems within 24hours of each other. In the first situation a good friend from the US who lives there, fluent spanish speaker,  and is very savvy about having guys over was drugged and robbed by someone he met online and invited to his apartment. He has lived there for over 10 years and this was the first time anything like this had ever happened. He spent the night in the hospital but is fine now. In the second incident I met a guy on grindr and we had a hot time. I'll admit I took a chance by having him back to my airbnb but I felt comfortable enough with the guy enough to refer him to another friend who was traveling with me. My friend wanted to meet up with the guy and they agreed on a price to meet up. This is where my friend made a big mistake. He agreed to go to they guy's nearby apartment(also in a nice neighborhood) and the guy who had just hours before been nice and friendly with me became very aggressive with my friend and took the money that they had agreed on up front and then demanded more before he would do anything. When my friend (a native spanish speaker) decided to just leave--this guy blocked his exit and started screaming and demanding more money even though they hadn't done anything. My friend gave him another wad of cash and beat a quick retreat. It easily could have escalated into something worse. In all cases this could have been avoided by following the usual safety measures talked about on this board. The reality though in Medellin is that many hotels do not allow guests and "love motels" are not that prevalent or are located in Centro far from the areas where most people stay. I'm not sure what the best solution is for Medellin in this regard.
Barranquilla and Carnival--I have some younger friends that live in Barranquilla that I wanted to visit and this was an ideal weekend because it was Carnival there. I have been to Cartagena many times and enjoyed it but this was my first trip to Barranquilla. Carnival was in the air as I landed at the airport and the beer companies were passing out cans of beer to arriving travelers on the way to baggage claim. I have never been at an airport where I had drank two free beers before I had claimed my luggage! Barranquilla is a pleasant city and I stayed in a nice high rise air BNB with security at the front desk--but they let my friends pass by as long as they were with me. These are guys I have known since they were college students and are now in graduate school and working and I trust 100%.
The carnival in Barranquilla is a big deal and last year there were over a million visitors. Prices for hotels and apartments go up just like Rio. The highlight of carnival is a big carnival parade on Saturday in centro. I relied on my local friends advice and we all got an early start on Saturday to go watch the parade. Unfortunately the area is for the most part blocked off with high barriers that block any view of the parade unless you buy a ticket to a private seating area. Those tickets were being sold by scalpers for upwards of $100usd per ticket. In the end we gave up on watching the parade due to the crowds and heat and the fact that we were unable to find any public viewing area that was accessible. My friends complain that each year the viewing area open to the public for free gets less and less and more of the parade is blocked from view by barriers. From what I did see though the parade in Barranquilla focusses more on colorful costumes and dancing than on the elaborate floats and displays at carnival in Rio.
Like carnival in Rio there are street parties but these are more enclosed events where you pay admission as opposed to the free bloccos in Rio which are more open and free flowing.
The biggest difference--and for me this is huge--is that in Barranquilla despite the heat at Carnival I did not see a single guy with their shirt off whereas in Rio the display of shirtless male bodies is a big plus! Culturally I think the Colombians are much more conservative about their dress and keeping themselves covered up in public.
We had great fun at a big open air gay club called The Patio which was packed with cute guys dancing to latin music all night. I was the only gringo there. There is another club in Barranquilla that my friends told me about that plays electronic/pop music but I do not recall the name and I did not visit. I didn't hook up in Barranquilla as I with friends but plenty of cute guys in the club were eager to meet, practice their english, and make out for a while. I would mention that casual cocaine use is common amongst many Colombians of all classes and it is a bit shocking to see how openly used it is in the clubs--no attempt made to hide it from security. I do not do any drugs at all but my Columbian friends tell me that it's not a big deal there --kind of like having a joint or a cigarette.--still I would stay away from it if you are tempted.
I love Colombia--great people, hot guys, beautiful scenery and many different regions to explore in a relatively small country. I still prefer Brazil for the open display of bodies everywhere in Rio and the safety of fun in the saunas there. For a true Carnival experience nothing beats Rio despite some of the hassles and security concerns. I will continue to visit both countries for all of their charms!

The Ecuadoreans say the mountain people (like Quitenos) are cold and reserved, while the coastal people are warm and outgoing. Therefore, Guayaquil might be your better bet. Many, many years ago, Guayaquil had a porno theater that was a riotous orgy where queens were sucking off one straight guy after another sitting in a row. However, video killed the porno theater stars, and there is very little "scene" of any kind in Ecuador compared to the bigger countries. Guayaquil does not otherwise have much tourist attraction.
Quito is a beautiful big city. They have cleaned up the streets so the old colonial area is now quite safe and sparkling. The zona rosa and modern city are to the north. The pollution is kind of bad, though, so you must get out of the city because the mountain region of Ecuador has some of the most beautiful landscapes I've seen in all my travels. Weather permitting, try to make it at least to the "avenue of the volcanoes," which is just an hour or so south of Quito.

I am in Cairo now.  There are plenty of guys asking for money on Grindr.  None of them is really to Brazilian standard in terms of appearance, so I haven't tried any.  Plus, I am a coward, not sure about the law, culture and safety.  I guess I am just gonna be a good sexless tourist.

What do you mean by 'Brazilian standard' in terms of appearance?  It is a muslim country so I don't think guys are going to be walking around with speedo's like Ipanema lol.. I found the Egyptians hot but that is me, I prefer younger and skinny - twinkish looks and there are plenty of cute Egyptian eye candy for me. As for hooking up there - homosexuality is obviously frowned upon in a majority muslim country.  It isn't technically illegal but the authorities have been known to arrest gays for engaging immoral acts using vague 'indecency' laws.  A western tourist being cornered in this way is probably extremely rare, but I guess not impossible.
I wouldn't rule out hooking up with someone but be very cautious.  Meet in a public place first and get a good sense of the person before doing anything.  Might be difficult to bring one to your hotel though. I have a friend who had no issues staying in the western 5 star hotels in Cairo.  I have no experiences with Air bnb in Cairo but if there is a doorman/security to the building - could be problematic.
Anyway have fun and share your experiences

I'm new to this forum and have been enjoying reading all the posts and topics quite a bit.  It is nice to be in an arena with like minded guys/interests. I think people should be able to engage in a civil discussion, even when there is disagreement in here without making personal attacks.  There really is no need for it!
