I'm off to KL on the 15th for Chinese new year.
This will be my 5th trip in 12 months.
I used to visit the Otot-otot sauna, but didn't bother the last 2 times because I couldn't find any guys I liked. Now that they've been raided, I won't be going back.
When I first went there about 15 years ago, KL was pretty dead, with not much to do. Now there's lots of places to keep you occupied - Chinatown, Brickfields (little India), beautiful mosques and gardens ( you can walk along suspension bridges through a rainforest, right next to the Menara tower). Food choices galore and incredible sky bars where you can sip on a cocktail and admire the stunning views. Try Helipad, Traders bar, Vertigo @Banyan tree, Cielo...the list is endless.
For massage, walk down bukit bintang street and turn into the street which leads to Jalan Alor food street. Keep walking past that Street and you'll  see massage places on either side of the street as you walk downhill. Continue on, and you'll come across a pub district.
I didn't see any freelancers out on the street art night - only ladyboys outside my hotel.
I did a day trip to Malacca from KL on a tour bus. It was ok, but I wouldn't spend 2 days there. There wasn't a lot to see.

Overpaying is relative to market prices to most of us. By your definition, the word doesn't even exist because if you pay it, then it isn't overpaying to you. I overpay for massages because it is worth more to me, and I tip accordingly. But, I am paying more than market and that's what I think most of us here think the common definition of overpay is. I am pretty sure those who I pay this way appreciate my business more than their average client.  That's part of why I do it and I think it's a hard way to make a living in the US doing legitimate massage.
You may define the word 'overpay' anyway you choose, but you don't get to change the definition of the word for the rest of us, or scold us because we use it the way we do.
I get that these forums have long had a thread about overpaying, particularly Garotos, screwing pricing up for the rest of us when those we hire start to expect higher prices from all us foreigners. But the vast majority of us don't care how others spend their money. It's theirs after all. The use of the word doesn't imply judgment to me. Maybe some envy, but not judgment.
But, I like to know what the market rate is when I'm paying so I can make these decisions rather than not knowing and having no clue how generous or stingy I'm being. Also, because I'd like those who I pay this way to know that I'm generous, not merely a mark. So if I'm not paying market in ignorance of market, I'd like somebody to inform me of what market is. I often deliberately overpay in poorer economies because those dollars mean a fuck ton more to them than they do to me. I want to make their day.
Glad for the report Jkane, so thank you. It's on my list to visit and the report pushes me closer to pulling the trigger (though I think bogota and medellin are my next splurge.)
This seems like a very silly bit of drama over what was reported as a fun trip. That's the point for all of us, isn't it?

My perspective on this is that guys in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, even the coasts of Colombia, are hot blooded. Not just in bed, but temperament wise. Things can flip from chill to aggressive pretty quickly if someone feels disrespected or jealous.... latinos are posesivo and jealous, lol
More laid back than Brazil? In my opinion, no. Different energy, yes. Less intense? Not necessarily. Would that stop me from going? NO.
One thing to remember, hotels give you an extra layer of security. There is staff, cameras, someone at the desk if a guy gets annoying or decides to show up uninvited later. Just make sure you book somewhere that allows visitors.
Once you have established a few regulars and know who is who, then maybe Airbnb makes more sense.

I'd have trouble justifying going to an island in which homosexuality is punished with serious prison sentences, unless it provided a truly unique experience.

Perhaps their prisons do provide a truly unique experience!

    I’ve been there many times.
    Here’s how I see it.
There are basically two types of islands in the Maldives.
Some are fully occupied by resorts.
Others are local islands where people actually live, and far fewer tourists go there.
On resort islands, most of the staff come from India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
On local islands, you’ll find the locals — they’re dark-skinned, short, and, honestly, mostly not very attractive (sorry).
The Maldives are pure hedonism. Everything there is designed to make your body feel good.
Perfect humidity, amazing water temperature, fresh air, soft sand.
It’s an ideal place for sex.
But you need to bring it with you.

These days Ipanema has almost no nightlife, sadly.
Except for New Year’s and Carnival, it gets very quiet after 8 in the evening.

@travguy The Hole and The Home are 2 different types of parties. The Home is similar to The Week. The Hole is sorta between Kevin and Fck (Kevin's darkrooms vs in your face sex everywhere Fck)

It’s a two-way street. Let’s not pretend Cuba has been a saint in this process. They continue with many of the leadership principles that got them on America’s shit list. No one is owed access to US resources. They have the rest of the world to play with, so make it work or change. If the Us is that critical then the government should put the people first and change leadership.

the US isn’t hurting without Cuba so it’s on Cuba to change here. Or don’t change, choice is really there’s.
