Exactly. I was on a motor bike taxi and the driver was being cautious.
-
I last went to Sunee Plaza in March and will give it another (final) try while I am here now. To give some perspective even the motor bike taxi driver cautioned/queried why I wanted to go down such a long and dark soi. It is certainly not worth coming to Pattaya or even Thailand (!) just to sample it. A new visitor definately needs to ensure he does his homework re. BT and Jomtien to avoid a serious disappointment.

“Sunny Plaza contains many bars” Are you sure about that? Apart from the two Gogo bars (Winner and Nice Boys) there are perhaps only 2 or 3 other bars left. They are usually empty. Compare that with Jomtien which now has almost 30 bars of various descriptions ranging from show bars to small stall type bars. It also has many good restaurants. Boyztown and Sunee both have none.

I arrived in Pattaya this week for a short (4 week) visit. On Saturday evening at about 10 pm I decided to give Boyztown a look over, as I haven’t seen it since the reopening after Covid. I decided to try 3 Gogo bars. The first I visited was an old favourite Toyboys and I was greeted warmly by the Manager/Boss/ Owner, or whatever he is. Name Put or Pat. There were in excess of 18 boys working all in underwear. Most if not all could be called Twinks. About 5 customers. Unfortunately, I was then “greeted” by a male Mamasan. I recognised him from a few years ago. Bad news. He must have graduated top of the class from the “Pesky Mamasan” University. He wouldn’t leave me alone, sat beside me and demanded a drink. Ignoring him eventually did the trick but it must have taken 15 minutes, before he went to pester another customer. Nasty piece of work. I made 100% sure he was outside when it came to paying the bill. Only had one drink and decided enough was enough. Next I went into BBB. Some boys on stage in full clothing and about 10 customers. I left without buying a drink. Next I went round the corner to see how things were at Dreamboys. As I approached the door a guy went straight inside. Bad sign. I ŵas right and there were no customers and about 5 boys scrambling to get on the stage. I decided it was not for me sitting there alone. As I was leaving BT I walked past A Bomb and so had a look inside. Again no customers. A few boys in underwear. All rather disappointing for a Saturday evening between 10 and 11 pm. I returned to Jomtien which was heaving!

Bangkok Trip Report 2022: The wait is over. What was I waiting for?

Anyone know what time the money exchange at the railway station under Savanabhumi Airport closes? -
It depends on where you start/ finish your journey. The Condo I used to stay at was good 10 minute walk to the nearest Songtaew stop at the junction near Boyztown. The convenience of ordering it from my room and then going downstairs to find it waiting for me was well worth the extra 50 odd baht on a hot and sultry evening.

The Bolt 60 baht fares were in February and March. I assume the “loss leader” is coming to an end!

I use Bolt in Pattaya as do most people in Pattaya. It’s new so at the moment so a very reasonable price. A one way trip from Boyztown to Jomtien would be 60 baht. The service is very impressive and waiting times are always less than 5 minutes, often only one or two minutes. Use it while it’s a “loss leader”. A motor bike taxi is also 60 baht. So no contest, unless there are severe traffic problems.

That would mean vacating the place you own for very long periods of time rather than just a few months per visit. It would probably mean selling my place which I am very loath to do. So for me it’s live in the UK and spend long holidays in Thailand.
-
Yes horrendous! I was there a few years ago and,if it is anyhting to go by, Guiness was the equivalent of 10 GBP a pint.
-
Stay in and have a quiet night!! Seriously. If I have been there a few months I have usually had enough by the time I go home. It’s a long journey to the UK and I don’t need to start it knackered! I used to visit BKK on my way home from Pattaya but have decided it’s too much hassle moving hotels etc en route home. Pattaya is only a little over an hour in a taxi to the airport. If I want to go to Bangkok I now usually do it on the way to Pattaya, or as a side visit whilst in Pattaya.

Having read your first sentence above I think you have simply overdone it. Gym in the morning followed by walking during the day and then night time activities! Bet you don’t do that at home! No wonder you are knackered!! 7 weeks is not a long holiday. Many of us go to Thailand to escape the UK winter and stay 3 or 4 months. I do and have done so for about 18 years. I’m 75 next birthday. I treat it as “living” there. Go out and party when I feel like it and stay out as long as I like. I don’t restrict the alcohol much but I do take take time off. On my off days I stay in the room and no nothing much, although I do go for an hours walk every day. Sometimes I spend 3 days “off” in a row. Just dont over do it!!

Best news ever. Hope they make it permanent. I’m sure everyone knows what BA stands for.
-
Agreed. Trouble is you are dealing with Asia where everyone is on the fiddle resulting in mountains of bureaucracy. Just look at banks and their paperwork...even for just renewing your card. Same with Immigration as we well know!

I have just looked up prices for October on their website and they want 1000 baht per night. I then looked at Booking.com and the price is indeed 3000. Try booking on their website or by email. I emailed for a trip in August and it’s 1000 per night. https://www.theagatepattaya.com/

Min's tidbits about my Thailand and Vietnam experiences

Sorry, I meant waiter. Apologies. -
I also used to fly Eva. Unfortunately they have blotted their copybook with all these changes. I now fly with Emirates and accept the stop in the Sandpit as their service is reliable. If I am going on holiday the last thing I want is flight cancellations with all the ensuing complications. If Eva become more reliable then I may return to them, but not now.

That is well below the minimum wage. Not heard of any barman getting that little. Maybe he was “embellishing” his earnings to get a bigger tip!! -
Plus, as said before: 1. July and August are European holiday periods. Price hike. 2. Fuel prices. Hopefully, when you’ve all spent your money, things will return to normal!
-
A friend of mine stayed at the Marina Plaza a few years ago and said “never again”. On line reviews say the same.
-
No mistake! The original poster asked about airfares from November so I chose the middle of the month. The return date is 90 days later...based on a 90 day visa. Agreed freezing but it was only an example. Wouldn’t catch me returning mid Feb!!
-
Yes. Just look at Emirates website. 15 Nov return 15 Feb London to Bangkok Economy £758. Bizzo £3890. (Not as bad as £5747) but higher than last year. https://www.emirates.com/uk/english/
-
As I said elsewhere I believe these high prices are a combination of a) people wanting desperately to travel and b) European holiday time. July and August. As pointed out above add c) increased fuel prices. Airlines are cashing in! However, if you book early business fares in September and October are still reasonable, albeit higher. Economy is only very slightly more than before.
