Like Michael, when I was in Montreal people said go to Thailand and I did. Previous to my first trip to Thailand I had no encounters with Thais or Asians but had an instant metamorphosis on my first day of arrival.

I never was bothered by the Filipino accent however cannot say the same for the Indian (India not North America)accent which is much more difficult for me to understand. Many companies outsource their customer service to the Philippines since the Filipino accent is more acceptable to Americans then the Indian accent.

Good British accents? Ronald Coleman; Alex Guinness; John Mills; David Attenborough; Ian McKellen; and Greer Garson to name a few. Obviously I am dating myself. I could barely understand half of what the cast of the Harry Potter series spoke and would have welcomed subtitles.

The British accent, or any accent, is not a problem with me, but the instance of Brits to mispronounce the word "Pattaya" is annoying; and there are a few more similar instances. Why not pronounce Pattaya the same as the Thais ? Of course both the Brits and Americans and other English speaking nations delight in anglicizing foreign names such as Paris, Los Angles, Rome, etc rather then pronounce it as the natives. What is a surprise to me is hearing the actor Hugh Laurie, who plays the infamous America, Dr. House, speak with a very British accent when not acting.

Let's not forget Kokopelli when it comes to iconic images. He has been around much longer then Einstein, relatively speaking.

For me, the up-gradable fares from Economy to Business are killers especially on Delta. Likewise a long flight in Economy would be a killer. The good old days are done and gone.

I just got around to reading this thread. Now in the USA, there are those (Tea Party and Republicans) who are using "illegal" aliens, namely Latinos, as the scapegoat for the country's ills and are rounding them up, imprisoning them, and deporting them. And most Americans ignore this issue or even support it. Herr Hitler would be proud of his legacy.

I can sympathize with you Michael. But my ordeal was on a Delta flight from BKK to Tokyo and onto the USA. I did get food poisoning but I believe it was from some snacks at the lounge or something I may have eaten prior to the flight. Yes, spent most of the flight in the toilet and then vomited into the courtesy bag. Had to stay over in Tokyo. I have been thinking of switching to Thai Air/Premium Economy since Delta upgrades too expensive and I have used all frequent flyer miles. For those who travel be sure to carry Azithromycin Capsules available in Thailand and elsewhere. Take 4 @250mg = 1000 mg. One shot deal for bacterial stomach infections and finished in 24 hours.

Just based on what you posted it seems you lead a rather dull life when in Thailand. If you enjoy sex and massage I suggest you go to Pattaya as opposed to Phuket.

I am convinced that my airline, Delta, records my IP address each time I look up a flight and cost. The first quote is always the lowest and subsequent searches and the prices increase until it reaches a plateau.

Money! They, the Thais, just do not understand that Farang have limitations on the amount of disposable money. In their eyes our supply of money is endless. For those of us who have limited income/resources this is a big hurdle to surmount in relationships with "boyfriends".
