February 20, 20179 yr Assuming that steveboy's friends are low income Thais, I actually believe him that they (or at least some of them) might see going to Starbucks as something like a status symbol - well worth posting on Facebook etc.
February 20, 20179 yr Assuming that steveboy's friends are low income Thais, I actually believe him that they (or at least some of them) might see going to Starbucks as something like a status symbol - well worth posting on Facebook etc. Not only low income Thais. I see it often in a place full of middle-class people and plenty of drip coffee machines, some snobby guy leaves the place and returns with a big Starbucks cup in a gesture that screams of "I don't go so low as to drink that cheap brew, I only drink quality".
