A recent study says that teens spend 3 hours 45 minutes on a cell phone every day during the summer. I can't think of a week that I have spent so much time on a cell phone.

The study also said if asked to choose between the cell phone and the TV, most would give up the TV. Aparently, most are not into Big Brother this summer. But, I cannot imagine the phone being that important today. When I was a teen it was the keys to the car that had me under control. Any threat to take those away and I toed the line. Now, it looks like the cell phone is the one thing that parents can use to get a few chores done.

I hate cell phones. I have one and it is usually with me. But it is for emergency use only. If my car breaks down, if I'm meeting someone and will be 15 minutes late - that sort of thing.

Nothing infuriates me as much as being forced to listen to other people's personal conversations as they walk down the street, stand in a movie lineup or have lunch in a restaurant. The worst of all is the schmuck who wanders around the supermarket, phone glued to his ear as he discusses every fucking can of beans and head of lettuce with the little lady back home. Get a life for Christ's sake and make a decision. Its only groceries!

I don't talk on my phone that much in a month! I'm even surprised to realize I'm probably just over that 'daily' figure (per month) when I factor in web, text, and email...

But I can see it. These kids today. Sheesh, I hate saying those three words, but it's true. Anybody else take a guy they've hired who's otherwise great and fully attentive to a nice restaurant and have them text the whole time? I have with several different guys. While riding with me in the car too... Now, I'm not really paying for their company while I'm driving or taking them for a meal (a difference between CL and Rentboy types of working guys?) but still feel it's a bit rude. I don't think the current crop of 18-25 year-olds think so though.

And we've probably all had experiences with crappy escorts who kept going to check their phone during a session. I once had a guy massage me one-handed as he texted the whole time, thought I couldn't tell or something, even though he'd also insisted on playing music through his crappy phone's speaker for the massage and it also made a sound for every keystroke!

I have never used the 300 minutes I pay for each month. I hate talking on a cell phone, probably because of the lack of clarity and dropped calls. This is exacerbated by years and hours of flying with little to no hearing protection. Now, I never leave home without it (hearing protection). However, I have to "be in touch" at all times, so I carry one. Give me a land line any time.

I carry a cell phone with me at all times, but almost never use it. It's like the flashlight I keep in the car: useful if one really needs it, but normally unnecessary. I do use it when I am travelling away from home, for the same things I would use my home landline phone for, but at home I often don't have to charge the damn thing more than once a month. It's also such an old model that they don't make updates for it, and I don't know how to retrieve the occasional text messages I get, that are obviously mistakes.
