I am in America.  I want to watch Bom Dia Verônica in Portuguese on Netflix but can only find the English language version.  Is watching the original Portuguese version while in America possible?

So, I did try watching Bom Dia Verônica in Portuguese (thx @BryBro) but quickly figured out that I was not ready for that yet so I watch and enjoyed and recommend to my friends the English language version.

I’m telling you this because I am in Rio now and had a conversation yesterday that went something like this:

Me: “Your English has improved a lot since I saw you last in December.”

Beautiful Creature: “I watch all my shows in English now.”

Me: “What shows have you been watching?”

Beautiful Creature: “Euphoria and The Umbrella Academy.”

I’m pretty sure that a couple weeks ago, I posted something about America’s ability to export culture in response to a question about why Brazil (and apparently Columbia) have developed cultures that make them very, very, very attractive travel destinations.  This is crazy though.  Yes, Euphoria centers around a teenager addicted to opioids and, unfortunately, I am all too sure that both America and Brazil have teenagers that fit that bill so I guess it follows that Beautiful Creature could understand and relate to Euphoria but The Umbrella Academy….?  Plot points there include the Vietnam War and the assassination of JFK.  I didn’t live through either event but I got me an education in American schools that definitely covered them.  Beautiful Creature on the other hand…

Me: “I’m surprised you like The Umbrella Academy.”

Beautiful Creature: “Luther is muito sexy.”

Me: “I assume you mean before the operation that disfigured him.  That doesn’t surprise me.  Tom Hopper is your type.  I think he is regrettably straight unfortunately though.”

Beautiful Creature: “I don’t understand.”

Me: “What did you think of the part when Klaus went back in time to the Vietnam War?”

Beautiful Creature: “Vietnam is near China and Thailand.”

Anyway, if I come back in a couple months and he tells me that he is really into the movie Watchmen, I am definitely calling bullshit.  Until then though, I would be curious to know if the non-Americans reading this watch shows and movies such as The Umbrella Academy and Watchmen (or Hamilton for that matter) that involve heavy doses American history.  Does America export its history too?  Whatever happened to watching episodes of Friends on repeat to learn English?
