No one checked either of our id's or covid certs. Is that normal?

When I visited Chili Pepper they wanted a passport and the real covid document (not on the phone or a copy)...

 

I was at Lagoa twice last week - no ID required or any Covid documentation.  Appears to be standard procedure there.

Ive read stories (on TripAdvisor, believe it or not) about guys being turned away from Chili Pepper Single Hotel for not having original documents - passport, etc.  The difference is likely CP is presenting as a hotel vs Lagoa as a sauna.

Lagoa wasn’t checking for either IDs (unless you looked close to 18 or under) or for vaccination cards when I was last there in December and January. It didn’t check for them last July and August, either. 

you guys are missing the point - Chili Pepper is licensed as a hotel, open 24/7 and therefore requires original documents, including passport to check-in.  Same as checking into any other hotel in Brazil.  Guests may leave & return during their stay.  Yes, operationally- CP blurs the line between hotel & sauna.  They have all this information on their website.

Versus Lagoa, which is not open 24/7 and nobody stays overnight. - it is not licensed as a hotel. Thus, no reason for ID.

We don’t get a formal looking “real” vaccination card from injection sites in Canada, in contrast to Brazil’s that also has an admin signature penned. Digital matrix code with specific text on our device, or something similar printed that looks like a copy is what I would need accepted.

Vaccination passports are not uniformly mandated across the nation or within jurisdictions. This may account for lack of consistency in enforcement by venues. Other than that, CPH is a servico for CoV PH planning purposes and Lagoa, etc is consumo bares e restaurantes e similares. 

Rio de Janeiro municipality just lifted the vaccination passport requirement this week. 

I know this reply is a bit late, but your post caught my attention, and I’d like to chime in. Glad to hear you had a good time in Lagoa with your date. Regarding the ID and Covid cert checks, different venues have varying policies.

Back in October, when asked for ID, I showed my expired drivers license and that was good enough to get me into all the places mentioned in this thread.  Now I carry my passport id card.

Sounds like you had quite the adventure in Lagoa! It's always interesting to experience different places and their varying policies. As for ID and Covid certs, it can differ from venue to venue.

Note that the issues with the Covid cert were all more than a year ago...

In your case, it seems like they didn't check your ID or Covid certs. While that might feel unusual based on your previous experience at Chili Pepper, it's possible that different establishments have different requirements and procedures. Sometimes it's a matter of their internal policies or the specific circumstances at the time.
