I recently read the book Bangkok Boy by Chai Pinit. Absolutely fascinating 

At the end of the book he mentions that he still offers tours around Soi Patpong and Soi Twilight. Is he still around? 

this sounds very typical man in that area. Every bar has this kind of guy to lure people in. they say the same words.

I read that book a few years ago. Some a fascinating insights though I suspected  that the events portrayed may have been a composite of the experiences of more than one guy! Perhaps slightly OTT for one life-time?

Still, I recommend it.

Yes I do agree that it seems extreme but nevertheless a great read. 👍

Trying to read (reread?) Cocktail Boys by Nicky Stewart. Just not into that one. But it's a funeral weekend here for me. Not into anything right now.

I just finished reading this book. In the epilogue, the author mentioned that he could be found as a “ghost guide” in Patpong and Soi Twilight, which suggests the book was written before the pandemic. He’d be in his mid-50s now and might still be around one of Silom’s two gay streets. Has anyone come across him?

That book was written a long time ago - 2008 according to Amazon - and he stopped doing walking tours a long time ago.

Chai Pinit eventually opened the Scorpion beer bar on Soi Twilight in 2011 that was towards the back of the soi, past Ocean Boy. Another beer bar soon opened next door to him but then they merged under the Scorpion name and he was part-owner. He used to sell copies of Bangkok Boy at Scorpion. He sold the Scorpion bar a couple of years later and it was renamed something else that slips my mind. It was more fun with Chai there though. He was still to be seen in Soi Twilight and Patpong for some time after that, but I haven't seen him around for ages.

As far as the authenticity of his memoir goes, he said that the English ghost writer added a lot of exaggeration. He didn't make very much from it either. Apparently the contract that he signed with the publisher was not favourable to him - or so he said, anyway.

Wow thanks for your post it really added a lot to the story after having just read the book. If anyone happens to see Chai or knows where he works, it would be great to say hello to him.
