The Thais are extremely careful, responsible and well-calculated drivers who are very predicable and never make mistakes... lol And there emergency medical services and paramedics are top notch and would take great care of you if you did get hit....NOT A CHANCE
August 29, 201016 yr Yes... if by "take great care" you mean, thrown on the back of the pick-up truck! Some of the volunteers are well trained and quite professional though. Not to mention the fact they are volunteers.

Not to mention the fact they are volunteers. I said NOT A CHANCE. While most US cities now have full paramedic service, and some even mobile intensive care units, Thailand in most cases is still doing what we did in the 60's in the US...Grab and Go...get them loaded in the wagon and take to the hospital. Doesn't help a lot with the Golden Hour.
August 30, 201016 yr Well, it's development is significantly behind the USA... What do you expect? Does anyone know if Malaysia has a professional, government run ambulance service like Singapore? I wonder what happens in Vietnam, Cambodia and other countries. If something happens, it is pretty f*cked if you can't get them to a doctor quickly, but that's something we take for granted in developed, Western countries.

It's a city state with a population of about 4.5 million - Malaysia has almost 6 times that amount of people and all the other additional extras a bigger country has to deal with (poor farmers in kampungs from just outside KL to deepest Borneo/urban poor in a large number of towns and cities). Sure Singpore is great under all development indicators, but it is TINY and doesn't have the inherent problems associated with large countries. (PS to answer the question directly, to the best of my knowledge since the 1960s the Red Crescent Society of Malaysia and other NGOs (like St John Ambulance), have been operating the emergency ambulance services in deals with the Federal and State governments of this very large and diverse country)
August 30, 201016 yr That's a valid point. You can't expect public transport for a place like Thailand or Malaysia to be as convenient, affordable or efficient as it is in Singapore. I only used Singapore as a comparison because it's a regional neighbour and I know for sure they have a profession ambulance service... where as I don't know about other SEA countries.

Some of my may be doubled up, but not six in a row like someone I've seen on the board. I know the "standards" in the US, but I don't know what you are calling Professional Standard. Do they run units with one ALS Paramedic and a BLS EMT?? And there average response is 8 minutes or under...etc. There is a lot goes into an Advanced life support "standard".
August 30, 201016 yr Trying to compare different cultures, standards of living, and laws of different countries as though they are the same makes little sense. When we think of Thailand, think that only 6.4% of the population makes enough money monthly to pay income taxes. Those making less than 20,000 baht a month don't need to pay. Only 11% have at least a high school education. Much of the rural population have never been in an elevator or in a tall building. Many that work here in the bar business have learned that a way to make money is to ask the tourists for some help. Many farangs in Thailand make over 2,000,000 baht a year at today's exchange rate $62,500 a year. while 94% of the Thais makes less than $7000 a year, many less than $90 a month with no welfare. No comparison
