Members DelRetiro Posted Wednesday at 03:04 AM Members Posted Wednesday at 03:04 AM Right before I hit “Reserve” on my Airbnb booking, I saw the tick-box where you acknowledge that sex tourism is against Airbnb’s policies and values and understand that violation of this policy might cause your account to be canceled. Is this new, or something specific to Colombia? Because I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before. Anyway, is it a problem to bring working guys into my Airbnb? Should I get a regular hotel room instead? Or will hotels give me the same grief? Thanks in advance for whatever insight or information provided. Quote
Members macdaddi Posted yesterday at 02:05 PM Members Posted yesterday at 02:05 PM In Colombia this is required by law. These are required clauses for all hotels and rentals that require the "renter" to acknowledge and will comply with the laws around sex tourism, sex with children, and the consumption of illegal drugs (although Petro is making that last one a short list). So yes, completely normal requirement. I would want to know what surveillance is in place in this property and whether there is security staff onsite. I recently stayed in an incredible loft in Bogotá for 3 days and the owner could view via a door camera what visitors came by to visit. She did check to ensure that I had invited them, and otherwise did not care what went on. If concerned, test the waters by telling the Airbnb manager that you are going to be entertaining some local friends while in town. Get their reaction and determine whether or not you want to proceed with the booking. Full disclosure -- have never had any issues in Bogotá in my many years of traveling to Colombia. Doesn't guarantee anything, but hope that helps you decide. floridarob 1 Quote
