Catania - Day 2

I had a good day exploring Catania, even though it was a bit frustrating trying to find what I was looking for. I decided to seek out some LIberty style architecture with the help of Chat GPT, but never found what I was looking for. My goal was to get away from the touristic center which is way too crowded, hectic, and a little sketchy for my taste. I did get away from it, got lost a little, found some nice little piazzas, had a great lunch, but Catania still hasn’t pulled me in the way Palermo did.

Chat GPT was right in predicting that I’d get lots of messages on Grindr, but little follow through due to the larger pool people have to choose from. I had a few guys I wasn’t interested in, one I was thinking of meeting, but then just not feeling it, and then this 28 year old cutie messaged me this morning. He sent me two nice dick pics, spoke English, had a very nice smile and said he’d meet me after he was finished with his studies at 5:30. He was showing as being 7 miles away. When I checked around 5:30, I could see he was a mile away. So he had indeed come into Catania like he said. I sent him a message saying hi, even though he wasn’t online.

Next time I checked, I saw he was online and had read my message, but he didn’t respond. I sent a few more messages asking if he still wanted to meet. He’d read them and not respond. And then that was it. His distance from me got shorter, but he was offline, so I guess he found someone else.

Keeping with my thesis here about why I had better luck in Reggio, it’s a smaller town, everybody knows everybody, tourists are rare, so there is not much competition for me. Here, there are more people, it’s bigger, so more anonymity, and much more turnover. I saw cruise passengers online today. So if he was looking for someone new, he had more people to choose from, and I guess he found someone better.

Ok, no big loss, but it is frustrating when someone says they’re going to meet and then they ghost you.

One other interesting thing that has been happening in Sicily is the north Africans. In Palermo it was Tunisians, and here in Catania, it’s Libyans. Yesterday, it was a Libyan who was in town. Today someone messaged me from Tripoli. He said he lives a straight life there, but comes to Italy to have sex with men. He wanted my Telagram to send me videos. I lied and told him I didn’t have Telagram. Not really interested in maintaining that kind of relationship.

I’ve also been contacted by several guys from Malta, which makes me think maybe I should visit Malta. 

I decided I needed some pampering since it’s the end of my trip, and really wanted a massage by a hot stud. I called a spa and asked if they had male therapists and they said only women, so I booked a facial for tomorrow. Then I found another one nearby that Chat GPT said did have male therapists and a hammam. It sounded promising but they didn’t have WhatsApp, so I walked over. No men. Only women. They had a slot available immediately, so I took it.

The massage was great. I felt like she was making pasta. It was very strong and just what I needed, and it was legit (always my fear when they give me a female masseuse after two weird experiences). It was just what I needed.

Tonight I found a guy on Grindr advertising massage and when I asked him where he worked, he said the gay sauna. One more reason why my luck is not as good here as it is in Reggio. There’s a sauna, and I am sure for the young hot guys, they get plenty of action there.

So there you have it. Catania seems to be a nice place to visit, but I think it takes more time to get to know than Palermo. As far as meeting guys on Grindr, it’s just not happening.
