The Dems love to bend over and take it.

Who gives a F the Democracy is circling the drain.

It just feels so good when the GOP finds another way to give it to us up the A.

Tonight, the Democrats enjoy the glow of getting F'd hard.  Bless your little hearts.

This Platner shit is just a major distraction.....

Do people really care about sexual misconduct these days ?

Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh, and still was put on the SCOTUS bench

Roy Moore still became the nominee in alabama although he lost.....

Clarence Thomas Remained on the bench, even after Anita Hill accusations....

then there was Matt Gaetz !!!

And lastly Donald J Trump, convicted and fined twice for sexual abuse AND defamation, YET elected President TWICE !

WHY should Dems be forced to abandon Platner., or "take it up the ass"  ?     THIS IS POLITICS and the rules today seem different..

Platner is FLAWED,  YES !!!!!!    but so is EVERY Republican politician.... yet they seem to weather every sexual allegation storm   but Dems are forced to wear a scarlet letter and abandon their journeys....   BULLSHIT

The Dems are replaying with Platner what they did to Biden........forcing him out because they always have to present the appearance of "doing the RIGHT thing" or as the Repugnants say, being WOKE !    even if its to their detriment.

The voters dont seem to care, and actually CHOSE him as the nominee....   Give the people what they want.

I'm sorry, but IMO, these Platner "revelations" seem to be perfectly timed....   While the alleged victim says she didnt previously come forward because she feared the effect her claims would have on his campaign.....  BUT she comes forward NOW, a week before the deadline for replacing him on the ticket....

This story has Trumps and the White Houses' fingerprints all over it,  and it would be of no surprise if SHE is being paid for her "testimony" by the most corrupt govt EVER in American history.   .....    Collins seat is instrumental, and the GOP wants her to KEEP it !

As someone else said, if he was running as a Republican it wouldn't matter, that's a party where character doesn't matter.

Why did these accusers wait until now to speak up?  I understand the Republican accusers waiting.  But the ones who says they support Platner's politics? Why wait until now?

Make you wonder, huh ?     Maybe for the SAME reason Comey announced the investigation into Hillary 11 days before the 2016 election....To hurt her chances of winning....

Like I previously said, I can only assume that this has dirty Republican fingerprints all over it since it is imperative to the GOP that they DONT lose the Maine seat....

And as we have seen many, many times,  Repugs have NO scrupples and will do ANYTHING to rig or manipulate for the outcome THEY WANT !

Cant imagine what they will do to Talarico as the mids grow closer ?   Maybe a GAY sexual abuse scandal will be reported ?   Because the CROOK Paxton is a much better candidate.....

Well, lucky me.   I disagree with all of you.  🫢

That's a good list, Sis.  But it cuts both ways.

Some Republicans still have standards.  Moore was nominated, but - as you note - he lost in one of the reddest states.  Because Doug Jones was a better man.  And some Republicans held the line and voted for him.  Matt Gaetz was a bridge too far for Republican MOCs that he bragged about his sexcapades to.

Yes, Trump won despite being the total raping piece of shit he is.  Which is why Democrats should nominate someone in 2028 who actually has character.  We have many good choices.

Bottom line is I am glad Platner will almost certainly be out soon.   Democrats have two choices.  If we point out that Trump is a sleazebag but we have a higher standard, which I think we do, then we can say Republicans have a double standard.  Or we can adopt the standard many Republicans have embraced.  Anything, including rape, goes.  Then there are no standards.

To me this choice is a no brainer.  Everyone is bitching, rightfully, that Democrats don't stand for anything.  Well here Democrats are taking a stand.  Including Elizabeth Warren and lots of progressive elected women in Congress.  Good for them.  I'm with them.

I'm donating to every Senate candidate that I think has a chance except North Carolina.  If Cooper can't win, Democrats will gain zero seats and could lose a few, like Michigan and Georgia.  But if I assume there is a blue wave and Cooper wins NC then the potentially doable states are Maine, Ohio, Alaska, Iowa, and perennial Holy Grail Texas.  I started donating monthly to Platner once he got the nomination.  But I did not feel good about it.   There is a boatload of dirt on the guy.

This was going to be a hard race, anyway.  Collins was behind in the polls in 2020 but won handily, anyway.  So just on a sheerly partisan level I think ABP (Anybody But Plattner) gives us a better chance of winning Maine.

What I've read again and again is that people like Platner's message, but not him.  I feel the same way.  Pick someone with his message but without his flaws.  It is like what happened with Biden, of course.  But the problem with that approach was NOT that we should have just held the line for Biden.  He should never have run.  With Harris at least we had a chance.  I feel that Harris created enough momentum to save some Democratic Senate seats we could have lost in 2024 - like Michigan, and Arizona, and Nevada.

The alleged victim also liked Platner's message, but not Platner.  Here is what she said.

Quote

Racicot said in a CNN interview on Monday that she opted not to fight back [against rape] for fear of Platner, a former Marine, becoming more violent. She said she chose not to go public earlier because she did not want to be known as a rape victim and because she had a moral conflict of supporting Platner's politics but not him. She said people deserve to know the type of person he is so they can see his full character.

To me that makes her two things:   1)  very human, and 2) heroic.  I am glad she spoke out.  She deserves the same support as Christine Blasey Ford and all Trump's rape victims.

She did speak to The New York Times at the same time one of Platner's conservative accusers did.  But at the time Racicot was not ready to proclaim to world that she was a rape victim.  I think this helps remove any doubts that this is a partisan hit job.  The guy was a weak candidate.

We Democrats did this to ourselves.  As you pointed out, Sis, the people of Maine chose him.  I blame Trump for helping to create a cesspool national political environment.  Rape, grifting, lying, starting a war without explaining it - in Trump USA anything goes.  The USA is now truly A BIG FUCKING SHIT HOLE in the eyes of the whole world.  Woo hoo!  Yeah, Trump is a total piece of shit that is turning the USA into a ridiculed piece of shit.

I'd rather stand for some better alternative.  Even if right now it just feels  like make believe.   Democrats have a winning message, if they are actually willing to fight for it.

The return to democracy and working class politics that Sanders unleashed in 2016 is even more powerful now, I think.  Sanders won the 2016 Maine caucus.  In the 2020 Maine primary Biden and Sanders each got about one third of the vote.  The fact that Mainers embraced Sanders' message again in 2026, even when the messenger was so flawed, is just more proof of the power of the message.

An addendum confirming this point.

Sanders has now joined the chorus.  Almost all Senate Democrats are calling for Platner to move aside.

More important, the grassroots movement is speaking.

Platner Volunteers Want to Move Forward with a New Candidate

Quote

Volunteers on Platner’s statewide organizing Discord server, with nearly 1,400 members, called for him to withdraw from the race Monday after the allegations were reported. The volunteer Discord server is dedicated to the door knockers, canvassers, digital organisers, and tablers who’ve been propelling his campaign.

Quote

“I don’t necessarily want Graham to win. I want our political ideas to win. He is not coming back from this and we should find someone to carry on the ideals now,” Dante Cusolito, a Platner volunteer and recent college graduate from York county, told Drop Site. “People can be flawed and become better, but hanging your movement on the coattails of somebody credibly accused of sexual assault is the exact thing we are trying to be better than.”

Quote

The initial volunteer-powered response for a progressive replacement for Platner has centered on former state senator Troy Jackson, a Bernie Sanders-backed logger from Northern Maine who was endorsed by the Maine DSA. Jackson served as president of the Maine Senate from 2018–2024 and recently ran for governor in the state’s Democratic primary, finishing a close third.

Quote

Jackson filed paperwork Tuesday with the Federal Elections Commission to form a U.S. Senate exploratory committee. He is the first Democrat to do so. A recent poll of 405 likely voters found Jackson with a 5-point lead over Collins.

In the poll, which seems to reflect what is stated above, Collins led Platner 50 to 46.   On the other hand, Jackson led Collins 48 to 43.

Collins knows what she stands for.  Susan Collins stands for dismissing charges of rape and sexual assault.  Thanks to Susan Collins and her dismissal of rape allegations we have Rapist Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court.  Dithering Susan said Rapist Kavanaugh would never repeal Roe v. Wade.  Until he did.  Maine seems ready to dump Susan Collins.

The Maine Democratic Party standing against rape simply highlights the fact that Collins stood for rape.  She voted for letting a rapist take away women's right to choose.

How quickly we Forgot about Eric Swalwell ?

I've been thinking about him all day, Swalwell.

That said, somebody stuck a nickel in my favorite assh0le Larry O'Donnell on MSNow, who went to great lengths as only Larry does, how Platner is a big fat liar.  Reminds me how ol' Larry did the same thing to Pete Buttigieg when Mayor Pete was running for president back in 2020.   Said O'Donnell, Pete Buttigieg is as liar!!!!!

So yeah, eff you once again Larry.  Did somebody stick a nickel in you again?

Platner claims there has been coordination to get him out.  I keep thinking about who all might be interested in that outcome.  Israel must be pretty happy about it.

And back to Swalwell.  Should these accusers spill the beans?  What is the point of waiting until now to throw their mud?   Why does corporate media pull the ripcord at the last minute, when little time remains in the campaign cycle?  OK, I hear you all.  Maybe the victims and the psychiatrists can explain it all away.  Meanwhile, now we're fucked.

The New York Times gave a much clearer picture than fukwit Larry O'Donnel did on his show today.  In the NYT article below. one can see how Platner has been dealing with post traumatic stress disorder from tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.  He was warned not to run by some in his circle.  His wife was worried about personal issues, texts, tattoos and so on.

But three democratic socialist operatives from outside Maine worked together to convince Platner to run, against the better judgment of others.  So, now it's ended with this train wreck.

I have a ton of empathy and respect for Platner.  I also feel terrible for Maine voters that want Collins out, and now see those chances dwindling.

Me too.  He ran a good campaign.

It's not at all clear that this diminishes Democrats' chances of winning main.   As I posted above, the most recent poll showed Troy Jackson a few points ahead of Collins, while Platner was a few points behind.  That same poll showed that Democrats overwhelmingly wanted Platner to drop out if another scandal emerged, which it did.  I think the way Democrats could fuck this up is the party establishment tries to muscle in a candidate that Platner's supporters don't want.

Meanwhile, Susan Collins doesn't seem to think this improves her chances.  Good!

Quote

“She can certainly win, but they didn’t want to change candidates,” the person familiar with the campaign’s thinking said. “The stuff we already knew about Platner was going to propel Collins to overcome the Trump anchor. Now it’s going to be a Democrat with a cleaner record, presumably.” .... Platner’s withdrawal removes what allies viewed as one of Collins’ clearest advantages.

Let's stop and remember for a moment that the VOTERS chose Platner,  just as voters chose Trump, TWICE.... and while THAT may not have worked out well, we should be grateful "we still have a right to choose"...

At this point, i dont believe Platner should remain, but ultimately the blame should not be with Platner, who is a flawed and broken person/candidate.  Its with the people that vetted him and propelled him to his position, most likely KNOWING of his Peccadilloes, but ONLY thinking of the win and not his morality or ethics.....  We have seen this act before, many times, but in an era of Trump,  its magnified and to a point of "manic".....

People dont care anymore, they just want to WIN.. =POWER.

I just hope this Biden-esque ethical redux by the Dems doesnt kill their chances of a Collins defeat ?

Our only goal with the mids should be "weakening" Trump by taking back BOTH houses. ,

I'm not clever enough to understand why so late in their campaign cycles Swalwell and Platner were steamrolled by accusations, but would be nice to understand how to develop a preventive game plan to avoid it.  As the OP stated, who vetted Platner?  The NYT article shed light on it.  Is anyone out there listening?

GOP money must be encouraged by now to keep this trend going.

That said, somehow a public figure who had been sent to military school for allegedly stoning the neighbor's toddler, who was ultimately adjudicated to have committed rape, who committed felonious crimes, who admitted he loves to grab 'em by the pussy, who is involved with the Epstein class, etc. etc.  is serving his 2nd term in the White House.

Similarly, in the past, the Senate has confirmed two SCOTUS nominees who were accused of maliciously defamatory behavior.   WTF is going on?

image.thumb.png.f1087d43eb2f36c73fb46061adac641d.png

Republican senators have nothing but praise for Brett Kavanaugh.

In the bigger picture of how to save our democracy,

I look at how the media and fellow Democrats are now raining down fire onto Swalwell and Platner.  Is their reaction unbalanced, lazy and effed up?

A lot of the independent media seems to be going for clicks.  Almost no one wants to give Platner any kind of break.   Perhaps in the age of the Epstein Files, we should expect to see this kind of momentum against the accused, at least if the accused is a Democrat.

The Dems are simply "playing the role" of the party of Morality.....   which reamins in stark contrast to the GOP, who is ACTUALLY the party of immorality....

While no denying that both Platner and Swalwell appear to be broken scumbags, although not convicted by any federal or local court jury's,  the timing of ALL these candidates allegations by accusers continues to remain SUSPECT for me,  despite all the justifications for the victims timing decisions......

I think its the timing of these allegations that ultimately DERAILS the candidates, and the very narrow windows being used IS intentional so that the immoral and illegal behavior is "fresh in the voters minds"....   The pressure of the timeframes on the actual elections is what "forces the candidates out" quickly,  and as we have seen with the Biden/Harris debacle,  replacing candidates in such narrow time windows doesnt  usually work out well.....   We'll see if the urgency to dethrone Collins changes that ?

I thought this was an interesting counterpoint to what is happening in Maine:

Far-left candidates are betting voters care more about economic populism than old posts calling to defund the police. Republicans are salivating.

Quote

“You can talk about my tweets if you want to, but you can’t afford your health care, you can’t afford your groceries, you can’t afford your housing,” Michigan Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed said in an interview. “And it’s because of Donald Trump’s absurd policies.”

That works for me!

The distinction in my mind is between a candidate who is accused of rape, and a candidate who is accused of calling for defunding the police.  We have one of the first in Maine, and one of the second in Michigan.  It's a big difference.

There is no doubt in my mind that some of what left wing Democrats, including me, advocate turns off some swing voters.  I can live with that.  It turns me off that a lot of moderate Democrats are pussies and money whores who seem to have their politics driven by the special interests that line their pockets.

Michigan will be a very good test of what happens in a swing state when you run a candidate who is talented, and seems like a good person.  But who has some views that can easily be labelled as at the fringe.  Talarico is another example of that in Texas, calling some of his own past statements "cringey."   People can decide whether they care about that more than the genocide in Gaza.  Or the wished for genocide in Iran.  Or the more everyday stuff like the cost of housing and gas.

One of my favorite lines in politics happened during the Monica Lewinsky thing.  I was standing in line at an ATM with two women chatting in front of me.  One was talking about how well her husband's business was doing.  And how she was excited that they could afford to do a big kitchen remodel.  She went on for a minute describing what the plans were and how nice the new kitchen would be.  Then her friend blurted out, "It seems like every time Bill Clinton gets a blow job, the economy gets better."

It's the economy, stupid.  That's what people care about the most.

Bill Clinton is Democrats' original sin on the issue of being a sexual predator.  As Donald Trump liked to point out in 2016 when "pussy grabbing" saw the light of day.  I would rather have someone who has to explain why they called for defunding the police than why they didn't rape someone, really.  We'll know soon how it works out.

A second poll was done in Maine.  And that poll showed that pretty much any progressive Democrat does better in a head to head against Collins than Platner would have.  The polls make it clear that lots of Maine Democrats had had enough.   Including progressive women and Platner volunteers.

I was unaware that Platner basically crowded out multiple progressive candidates in Maine who have lots of government experience with his momentum.  So they all ran for Governor instead.  So we npw have three candidates who each pulled about 20 % in the Guv race and who have all thrown their hat in the ring for Senate.

It seems like an abundance of riches, potentially.  As long as the Maine party is not perceived as moving the needle to a more Establishment candidate.  And as long as whoever comes out ahead at their flash convention can focus on unity.  Which sounds like where the progressive base in Maine wants to be.
