Any recent updates about Malasya / KL?

Planning to go for a few months.

How is it there?
It could be good to find not just some dick but also nice ppl to talk to

I've been to Kuala Lumpur 6 times over the past year.

Gay life is non -existent. There is one gay bar called Blue Boy, but it's just drag shows.

Otot-otot sauna was raided a while back and I believe it has now closed down.

Lots of ladyboys on the streets and girlie massage parlours in bukit bintang but I've been told the guys working there don't do much.

So I guess the apps are the way to go.

I've spent around 14 months in malaysia over the last 2 years, if you are a gay traveller this is not a destination to choose for a gay holiday.

Certainly don't go around waving pride flags and shouting your sexuality from the roof tops. 

Yes, there are people on the apps, you'll likely need a vpn to access the apps depending on your service provider.

 

Malaysia is a majority-Muslim country with Islam as the official state religion. That should tell you all need to know.

Venues have been raided and arrests made in the time I have been here. They make it very public when such an event occurs. 

When I am here I live in on a small residential estate, in an apartment given to us to live in rent free by my husbands chinese family, we have to make up the story that we are just friends, living in a 3 bed apartment, but that doesn't stop the gossip and rumours about me being a bad man and I should not be trusted. 

It's very handy that my Husband understands malay otherwise we would not have heard the rumours about us.

I have been to Malaysia many times in the last 40 years. As @durian points out, it is not a country where you can shout out your sexuality from the rooftops. But I have never had any problem there from my very first visit to the famous Blue Boy bar where I met the most gorgeous Chinese young man who then spent a couple of nights with me at the Shangri La hotel, to many visits to Otot2 as well as cruising around Sungei Wang. As suggested by @a-447 Otot2 was raided in November last year and may now have closed.

I have found the usual apps perfectly OK on more recent visits. But far more Chinese on them than Malays. Quite recently I had a young guy join me for three nights at the Renaissance Hotel. No one paid any attention to us. 

That said, KL is not really my kind of town but pleasant for short visits. I could never imagine staying there for 14 months over two years!
