.......there is another more emotive issue here involving chicanery at the heart of the UK government when North Sea Oil was first discovered and the extent of its revenues to the UK Exchequer were becoming known.....In 1974, a document on oil revenues was prepared for the UK Cabinet Office. It was then buried in the Westminster archives until recently released under the Freedom of Information Act.....

Apart from scottishguy's earlier comments about the increased value of the Scottish pound, surely the key parts of that document are -

1. Even after its discovery the full significance of North Sea oil was not immediately apparent and it still remains in large measure disguised from the Scottish public . . .

2. If, in five years’ time [i.e. around 1979] North Sea oil is contributing massively to the UK budget . . . it would be hard to imagine conditions more favourable to the growth of support for the nationalist movement.

When you remember that quotes you have given come from the McCrone Report - an official UK Govt document and not some piece of Nationalist propaganda - it is truly astonishing that a Govt which has been found to be lying to the public for thirty-odd years is still not being held to account. There has been little to no coverage of this within the mainstram media.

Slightly off topic (okay, more than slightly off topic), I wonder about your opinion as to whether the Scots are going to commit economic suicide and vote for independence next year.

now we know they did not
