Guest fountainhall Posted September 2, 2011 Share Posted September 2, 2011 Whilst we are all waiting for the date of the Taipei Gay Pride Parade to be announced – expected to be end-October as last year when 30,000 turned up, but it’s now September and still no word! – Hong Kong has announced it’s Pink Season which will take place between September 30 and December 4. Well. They call it a season, but it is more a small series of events spread out over this period. Surprisingly – What happened was that when the TCJM and the key event organisers approached the Hong Kong Tourist Board they had not expected more than a guarded acknowledgement of the season’s existence, and that it would be 2012 that would see its start date. Instead, they found that the Tourist Board were much more enthusiastic than that, and in effect pressed everyone to go ahead this year so that they could observe the events and then, if all went well, include them in their calendar for 2012. So ahead they decided to go. ‘Pink Season organisers hope the city's authorities realise the tremendous potential this festival has in terms of attracting tourists from all over the world,’ comments Season Coordinator, Anshuman Das. It's at least nice to know that a Tourist Board has been relatively encouraging of a gay event. Hong Kong has lagged way behind Taipei – and even Singapore, but the hope is that the city’s more open gay community will come out for the events. These include the Mr. Gay Hong Kong Pageant, the HK Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, an Out in the Open festival of fun and diversity for LGBT people and their families and friends at Bauhinia Beach Club on South Bay Beach (next to the very gay Middle Bay Beach which is always packed with eye candy at week-ends !), Gay Day @ Disney (now that might just be interesting!) and a Gay Pride Parade scheduled for November 12.
