While I think a great number of Iranians want change, there is no organized opposition in Iran. Change to who? There isn't anybody there to take the reins away. I think the only realistic hope is that we get a new version of the supreme leader who will capitulate on Trump's asks. (no nukes, no regional meddling, no missiles.) I think even that unlikely.

I share Unicorn's desire to visit Iran. Unfortunately, they are known to take western hostages and I have many familial links to the US military and intelligence community, so travel today seems very, very unwise. I very much hope one day a better Iran emerges that I might be able to visit.

Yup, America Fuck Yeah! We can kick anybody's ass. We often do. What happens after? Who cares, cause fuck yeah, we kicked their ass! Did you see how we freedom'd those terrorist muthafuckers into the ground. America! Freedom! Freedom and Guns! Guns and some Freedom, but especially Guns! Guns are Freedom! If you shoot them, it's freedom, so they deserved it. Let's freedom the world! We're going to need a LOT of ammunition for that! (I am appalled by the behavior of the current administration, and by much of my country's historical behavior. I can mock it, but I can't change it. But none of that excuses similar behavior in others. If we condemn it, we condemn it everywhere with what small influence we have on the outcome. Often merely our voices.)

A quick google shows me two reported executions in 2022, and two in 2021. I imagine there are others. I'm not going to defend the west's behavior, but that doesn't make what the Iranian government does any bit better. I think you can think both parties are bad. Like Israel's government and Hamas. It is, perhaps, possible that bombs will change the Iranian government, but I think it very unlikely. Magical thinking. I think the most likely outcome is that the Revolutionary Guard will tighten their grip on a country in shambles.

If you're a fan of the Islamic regime in Iran, you are really in the wrong place here. You can get the death penalty there for gay sex.
-
Trump is corrupt. That doesn't make the 'supreme leader' any less of a monster. Thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of protesters have been murdered by the regime. Not that bombing will help. A new 'supreme leader' will arise in time and the cycle will repeat.

How do you feel about multi-millionaires passing out the hat?
caeron replied to unicorn's topic in The Beer Bar
I think it is more than a stretch to accuse the widow of being a swindler when you actually know nothing at all about their finances. The sources you cite may be wrong, as your original sources that suggest he was wealthy were unreliable. I did see a video of him which said he had no residuals from dawson creek. I'm not giving, but I see no reason to insult the widow. -
And I imagine the public sex is at least partially because most of them have nowhere else they could go.

I am very dubious about the websites that supposedly report individual's wealth, since they seem to just pull these numbers out of the air. It could well be that he wasn't that well off. Look at his career, it was mostly bit parts and small films. I doubt residuals from Dawson's Creek were that significant. That said, I wouldn't personally give. Like you, I figure they've got other options. The charities I give to like Doctors without Borders are for people who don't. -
If I wanted to hire a truck driver, a bar isn't my first choice of places to look.

Yellow journalism/demonizing a community, or legitimate news story?
caeron replied to unicorn's topic in The Beer Bar
Well, if you deal drugs in the gay community, I'd think you'd want to know you might get arrested before boarding your gay cruise. And even if you're just carrying for your own use, wouldn't you want to know that it might get you arrested? Seems the story is a useful warning to me. I doubt the police just showed up on their own. I imagine somebody tipped them off. Could have well been the cruise line or the like who noted drug problems on prior cruises. As one of the articles noted, they've had multiple deaths during these events (though they state they weren't drug related). Nobody wants that kind of publicity. That said, the naming and shaming is bullshit. -
This is called "Thread Necromancy" in other forums. A poster finds a very old post or thread and posts to it. This 'resurrects' the thread from the dead (where it should have remained) It is generally considered poor form. Better to start a brand new thread asking about the topic. Though in fairness, when perusing forums someone may not notice how old the thread actually is. Forums like this one that have been around for a very long time can have some very old threads lying around.

Pretty sure they aren't going to risk getting fired and expelled from the country to have sex with you unless you are offering an awful lot. If you can afford to go, you can afford to bring your pleasure with you. With all the cool places to visit in the world, the Maldives is pretty far down my list. Plenty of places with nice beaches and snorkeling that have a lot of other things going on too.

The "Melania" Box Office Dump

Bezos has become a trump suck ass. I canceled my subscription to the Washington Post over the shit he pulled on it sucking up to Trump. -
I used to think differently and enjoy social media, but its steady creep and increasingly toxic nature changed my mind. I was on the internet back when it was the arpanet. I loved it. When the internet started to take off, I imagined a bright, bright future. I was wrong.

I don't do Facebook anymore, and won't do instragram. I miss out on some stuff, but I think it worth it to not have my life online sold to whoever will pay Meta for the data.

Brave is a browser that focuses on privacy. Duckduckgo is the same. I prefer brave, but either is far better than the others that help marketing companies track your use across the internet (If you care about being spied on. With this government, it just seems prudent to me.)
-
Use the brave browser. Use a VPN. Don't accept cookies. Use Ad Blocker Advanced: Get a subscription to Incogni which removes you from internet marketing data bases. I do not wish to be spied on either, and these things, while not perfect, do a very good job of fighting back.

10 inches?!?! I'm not cutting off that much for anybody.

Well, I believe him, because it would be just like him to be desperate for money, never pay his rent, and still be too fucking proud and macho to take a free $100K. It apparently persuaded gofundme, because the request is locked while they investigate. I don't really care, though. He isn't worth wasting much thought on.

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/celebrity/articles/mickey-rourke-launches-gofundme-avoid-144740082.html Rourke says he has no involvement in this whatsoever and condemns it though it was apparently set up by this agent's assistant, supposedly without his knowledge. His financial troubles are apparently real though, and clearly of his own making.

On another note, TomCal hasn't posted in a long time. Does anybody know what happened to him? Always enjoyed his brazil reports.

He needs to sober up and straighten his mind out. Some serious jail time seems a good place for that to happen.
