Across the road from Raya there's unpretentious Thai seafood restaurant with big tank at front. Open till very late and all boys I took there liked it ( me not as much but only because I was paying the bill). That plus Foodland and Madrid Tavern are good enough to keep me and my stomach happy even during 2 weeks stay. You asked , you have answer what are MY favorite places. I don't attribute it to reduced number of tourists. Where I live I can see the same, lost of bars gentrified and are swanky restaurants and number of gay did not shrink, I say is more of us and we are more visible. I think it 's just easier get sex nowadays than before and because of general acceptance gay sex lost a bit of it's luster of forbidden fruit and bars are slowly melting because we don't need than as meeting and hooking up place. Porn shops are sharing the same fate, perhaps even faster.

whoever wrote that article is certainly not aware about Swampy-Pattaya bus option being in operation ( author directs arrivals heading to Pattaya by bus to Ekkamai ) I observed the same on Bangkok's suburban Bang Bamru station on Hua Hin line, enormous building , 17 pissoirs in men's washroom ( show me at least one that big at Swampy for example ) and only few trains stopping there with mid-day gap between trains of 5 hrs and only few passengers I agree , but regular , normal gauge electrified line with double track would do. HSR on such a line is vanity project , just like Maglev in Shanghai I'm not questioning that story but if Ethiopian can efficiently , perhaps best African airline Ethiopian can should do OK with railways as well specially that one Chinese build replaced old, narrow gauge , French built railway ( picture of old terminus for those interested attached below, on the first picture one can see new BTS -like city train running on elevated track)
