These changes were felt in BKK and almost not at all in the islands. In BKK the main meaning of that change was that everything dies at midnight. All the boy bars held only one show each night. DJ station was open till midnight and G.O.D closed. Alcohol sales at convenience stores stop at midnight as well. For an unknown reason that did not apply on the specific Family Mart near Le Meridian since both me and my new BF went there to buy beer in the middle of the night. There were no taxis outside Babylon so I told a motorcyclist to find me a taxi and gave him 50 baht for that. 3 minutes later a taxi came to Babylon entrance. 40 minutes and 400 baht later, I arrived at Suvarnabhumi and met my friend that came from Kyoto (she was my commander in the army 12 years ago). We planned to visit our friend in the island together. We are all friends from our military service time. We flew to Koh Samui together at 19:45 arriving at about 20:30. We had to stay a night in Samui since the ferry to Phangan ends at 18. I booked us a nice room at Chaweng regent beach resort for one night (134 USD) and we got an upgrade upon arrival. We went out probably at 22:00 for dinner and that's when I caught a touristic shock. Along the main streets there were masses of Israeli tourists. Everywhere there were signs in Hebrew and tuk tuk drivers combining Hebrew words while offering us to see dirty shows. I did not take an 11 hour journey just to be in Israel again and returned straight to the hotel after dinner. My friend lived at the latter which was good since although I am quite a club guy - that applies only to gay clubs. I hate clubbing with straight people. We arrived at a vegan nice place called Orion. It's literally on the sea in a very Hindu atmosphere. We just sat there, ate, and talked from 2PM to 2AM. People coming, people going. Lots of weird spiritual people that I usually don't get along with but this time it was OK. A lot of tantra and sex talk. With some guys it felt there were using Tantra just as an excuse to connect with women. Anyways, surprisingly for me I enjoyed that half a day chill which is usually way too much for me. Since my hotel was pre booked my friend left her shabby villa and had my room for a night, which she was very grateful for. Returned my motorcycle and took a taxi to the ferry. Probably 2 hours later I'm at Samui airport waiting at the gate. I am with my over ear full headphones listening to loud house music when I suddenly notice a guy walking around with my name written on a board. I identify at the gate. They say that they need to take me to my luggage. I go on a car to the luggage area and identify my suitcase. The security guy asks me to open my suitcase and I'm kind of afraid about what they found in the X Ray, although I knew that I have nothing illegal inside. I open and he immediately takes out the external power bank which was supposed to go in only on carry on luggage. I didn't know that and I apologize and take it, and the car then takes me to my flight. During the flight I have only one concern in mind. I land at 2115. Will I make it to the 22:45 tawan single show? Will I succeed on satisfying my crave for a good muscle worship session? Again, way too long for a post that does not contain sex. Lol. Just landed! I wanna write as close as possible to the experience while my memory is fresh and accurate. This is my third trip report and my third trip to Thailand. In the last couple of months I decided I need one final trip of fun before I become a father (in just one month!!). But, when a friend of mine who is living in Koh Phangan suggested I come and visit him, I decided to take that opportunity (and excuse) to visit what has become my favorite city in the world, Bangkok. Landed at Bangkok 4PM October 17th. Bought a sim card (250 baht), took a taxi (400 baht) to the meridien (110 usd a night) and quickly went to drinks at soi twilight since I had an hour to kill till until I get my shirt and hopefully the guy that comes with it. There are several agencies that do that. I used - Young Pioneer Tours. I regret not taking the longer trip options but I was scared of the thought of touring in a group and not being able to control my own itinerary so I took the short tour. It was the most fascinating experience I ever had as a traveler - it was landing back in time in a different planet with tight and weird rules. It is of course a heavily monitored tour by the NK government but even so you still get to be see and get a clue of that place. Of course you don't get to see the camps or horrible conditions - but they do expose you to some of the horrible poverty outside Pyongyang and by what they are willing you to see, you can only imagine how poor are the places they are not willing you to see. And of course we visited all the important cultural sites in Pyongyang. Highly recommended tour. About 1100 euors more or less.

After 2 years of betraying BKK with other cities, I got a surprising chance for a one week getaway to visit a friend of mine that recently moved to koh phangan. This trip is my last trip before me and my husband become parents so even though I only got 2 non consecutive nights in BKK and 4 nights in Koh Phangan- I'm determined to make the most out of it. Regarding Beijing, I am landing back from NK and have 2 options: the first is to leave straight to Shanghai and the second is to have another night in Beijing (after already spending 48 hours there). The main advantage of the first is that I am already in the airport when returning from NK so maybe going back to the city for 24 hours is a little too much. The second option is nice since all of you said wonderful things regarding Beijing and also I am thinking of maybe taking the Bullet Train to Shanghai since it might be a nice experience so the airport advantage looses it's advantage in this case. Any thoughts? 2. The weekend - Since one of the 2 weekends will be in NK and will probably not include fun gay stuff, I wanna make the most out of the second weekend. I have two options: the first is to spend Friday eve in Shanghai and Saturday eve in Seoul that way I taste them both on the weekend. This leaves Seoul with only 3 nights. The second is to leave Shanghai Friday morning and spend the entire weekend in Seoul. You are right. The trip to NK did raise several moral issues: Am I providing them money to sponsor their vicious leader? Am I cooperating with one of the world's most evil regimes? Why do I feel the need to go and see such a bad place when there are so many nice places I haven't seen. I am not sure that I have a good answer to all these questions but I decided to go anyway. In this post you can read some remarks regarding "is travelling to NK ethical". I personally think some of his claims are pure self-rationalization and I don't buy them. I guess I just wanna go there so I decided to disregard the ethical perspective. Just like I do living my normal day to day life in Tel Aviv while 50KM eastwards my government is continuing it's ongoing evil occupation over the Palestinians for almost half a decade. Which in my perspective, my indifference, is much worse than travelling a week in NK. Maybe after my trip I'll have another opinion. Really?! I was sure Shanghai's gay scene is much better. Some of the websites describe SH gay scene as better than HK's gay scene. I am starting to think maybe I should skip Seoul this time and maybe spend some more time in Beijing... Hey everyone, I just started planning my next summer trip and would like some advice. Considering the great advice I got from people here on my last couple of trips, I immediately decided to consult with you guys once again. My trip does not include Thailand this time so I hope it's OK for me to post here. The inspiration for this summer's trip started only a month after I returned from BKK on Sep 14. I started to read a book called "Nothing to envy" about North Korea. After investigating a little I decided that this summer I will visit there. Once again, I am going alone since my BF is in the Israeli army and they don't like the idea of him travelling to North Korea. This leaves me, once again, alone in Asia. Which is not that bad for me. I got for this trip 15 days. 5 days of them I'll be in North Korea on a group tour. The question is where to go besides NK. My sketched plan now is: TLV -> Seoul (4 nights) -> Shanghai (4 nights) -> Beijing (1 night - must be there for my NK visa) -> NK (4 nights) -> Beijing (1 night) -> TLV. Considering the fact that I like exploring big cities and less into country side, I ask this: 1. Shanghai vs. Seoul - 4 nights each is a proper distribution of time? 2. Any general thoughts regarding other or better places to go to? 3. My impression is that Beijing is less interesting than Seoul or Shanghai. Is that correct? 4. Any accommodation advice? I may have over simplified the reason I am not that eager on traveling to Singapore. I actually always wanted to visit Singapore. In fact, a local Israeli blogger just posted 2 weeks ago a very informative and exciting post regarding gay Singapore (link is with Google translate from Hebrew to English so it's a poor translation of his post) and after reading his post as well - I am sure it's worth a visit and that we will enjoy it there. The true reason I am not eager on visiting Singapore is that for an Israeli passport holder, there is nothing to do in that region except Singapore. I cannot enter Indonesia and Malaysia. So when I wrote that it is "too clean, too sane", it is just comparing to my imagined Malaysia-Singapore-Indonesia fantasy trip. Several years ago I thought I'd wait some years until they will allow us enter and then have a more intense trip at that region. But, nowadays, I understand that I will probably not witness peace during my lifetime in our region so waiting is just being naive. In addition, as i said, if flying to Singapore is what gets me to convince my BF to have several days in BKK - I am more than willing to take that extra mile Yes we surly got "templed out". LOL. I understand what you mean and surly I am not judging or criticizing any one that has sexual/romantic preference for any race as I do my self have some preferences for certain races over others. However, I don't think I agree with your distinction between racism and preference for race. I am not saying that these are the same things but I do think that they blend without us even realizing that. I have several examples: Some of the Japanese that we hooked up with told us that some of their friends think that Caucasians are less clean and more shallow that's why they prefer other Japanese. So, when a certain race gets assigned with certain characteristics that may cross the border to racism. It worked the other way around elsewhere - as I previously mentioned, a Vietnamese guy wanted to me to take of the condom - because I'm white so I'm probably well educated and clean. Another example from my home: some of us Israelis, like having sex with Arabs (I am guilty of this preference as well). When talking about it, we always say how Arabs are like beasts in bed and that they are considered passionate and full of instinctive desire. In my opinion, these characteristics are a fruit of our developed imagination and also are racists whether we like it or not. In the sexual manner this racist preference works well for Arabs but it lowers them in the romantic manner since Israelis usually want them for sex and will less consider them as romantic partners (I am generalizing here). Finally, let's take a very common Caucasian sentence of preference - "I am NOT into Asians". I talked to lots of white people about this non preference (which thankfully I am not holding and I can enjoy Asian ass as much as I enjoy Caucasian ass). After having long conversations about this negative preference I think that there are some repeating motives which include the claim that Asians are too feminine, too small, and their dicks are too small. Even if some of these claims are statistically true, assigning them to an entire race and disqualifying them as sexual partners just upon that, is a sexual preference for race that is also somewhat racist - since it is not true for the entire Asian race. Of course, I am not comparing this form of mild racism to the more severe forms of racism, but I think that it is rather a spectrum than a distinction. What do you think?
