I regret not taking the longer trip options but I was scared of the thought of touring in a group and not being able to control my own itinerary so I took the short tour. It was the most fascinating experience I ever had as a traveler - it was landing back in time in a different planet with tight and weird rules. It is of course a heavily monitored tour by the NK government but even so you still get to be see and get a clue of that place. Of course you don't get to see the camps or horrible conditions - but they do expose you to some of the horrible poverty outside Pyongyang and by what they are willing you to see, you can only imagine how poor are the places they are not willing you to see. And of course we visited all the important cultural sites in Pyongyang. Highly recommended tour. About 1100 euors more or less.

After 2 years of betraying BKK with other cities, I got a surprising chance for a one week getaway to visit a friend of mine that recently moved to koh phangan. This trip is my last trip before me and my husband become parents so even though I only got 2 non consecutive nights in BKK and 4 nights in Koh Phangan- I'm determined to make the most out of it. Plane ticket booked! So my trip goes like this: TLV - > Beijing - Landing in Beijing at the 11th of August at 0830 AM. 2 nights. Regarding Beijing, I am landing back from NK and have 2 options: the first is to leave straight to Shanghai and the second is to have another night in Beijing (after already spending 48 hours there). The main advantage of the first is that I am already in the airport when returning from NK so maybe going back to the city for 24 hours is a little too much. The second option is nice since all of you said wonderful things regarding Beijing and also I am thinking of maybe taking the Bullet Train to Shanghai since it might be a nice experience so the airport advantage looses it's advantage in this case. Any thoughts? 2. The weekend - Since one of the 2 weekends will be in NK and will probably not include fun gay stuff, I wanna make the most out of the second weekend. I have two options: the first is to spend Friday eve in Shanghai and Saturday eve in Seoul that way I taste them both on the weekend. This leaves Seoul with only 3 nights. You are right. The trip to NK did raise several moral issues: Am I providing them money to sponsor their vicious leader? Am I cooperating with one of the world's most evil regimes? Why do I feel the need to go and see such a bad place when there are so many nice places I haven't seen. I am not sure that I have a good answer to all these questions but I decided to go anyway. In this post you can read some remarks regarding "is travelling to NK ethical". I personally think some of his claims are pure self-rationalization and I don't buy them. I guess I just wanna go there so I decided to disregard the ethical perspective. Just like I do living my normal day to day life in Tel Aviv while 50KM eastwards my government is continuing it's ongoing evil occupation over the Palestinians for almost half a decade. Hey everyone, I just started planning my next summer trip and would like some advice. Considering the great advice I got from people here on my last couple of trips, I immediately decided to consult with you guys once again. My trip does not include Thailand this time so I hope it's OK for me to post here. The inspiration for this summer's trip started only a month after I returned from BKK on Sep 14. I started to read a book called "Nothing to envy" about North Korea. After investigating a little I decided that this summer I will visit there. Once again, I am going alone since my BF is in the Israeli army and they don't like the idea of him travelling to North Korea. This leaves me, once again, alone in Asia. Which is not that bad for me. I got for this trip 15 days. 5 days of them I'll be in North Korea on a group tour. The question is where to go besides NK. My sketched plan now is: TLV -> Seoul (4 nights) -> Shanghai (4 nights) -> Beijing (1 night - must be there for my NK visa) -> NK (4 nights) -> Beijing (1 night) -> TLV. Considering the fact that I like exploring big cities and less into country side, I ask this: 1. Shanghai vs. Seoul - 4 nights each is a proper distribution of time? 2. Any general thoughts regarding other or better places to go to? 3. My impression is that Beijing is less interesting than Seoul or Shanghai. Is that correct? 4. Any accommodation advice? I may have over simplified the reason I am not that eager on traveling to Singapore. I actually always wanted to visit Singapore. Well, it was my first time. I used it because I know my limitations and I really pushed my body to it's edge at certain points of this trip and at that point I wanted more than my body can handle. Ok, so I now will continue and finish my report regarding PP and my entire trip. Probably 100 locals were there that evening and I was the only foreigner. Most of them are too young and too skinny for me but I'm sure some will find this place very attractive. After having realized that the I came with is my best option in that sauna we went back to my hotel and had fun. Later he took me to his apartment and we had dinner with some of his friends. The next day I went to the killing fields with a car and a guide (20+20 USD) that I booked through Rambutan. That place was horrible. The only thing that may resemble that experience was the concentration camp tour I did in Poland 13 years ago as a high school student. Still, there is a difference. Nowadays, Auschwitz-Birkenau, Majdanek and the rest of the camps are more sterile and museum like. The killing fields are still raw. Walking there I stumbled upon old cloths and bones that were sprouting from the ground. After hearing the horror stories and seeing those sights I then realized that all Cambodians above 45 are probably somehow traumatized as my grandparents were and those living still are. This day trip changed something in my view of the Cambodian people. They still are a recovering post-traumatic nation - even if you don't see it - it's there. After I came back to my hotel I went to rest from that shaky experience. In the afternoon I met with a local guy that I already started talking to a day before I arrived to PP. That guy had the body of a god and a so-so face. But when a body is that impressive – I don't care that much about the face. The reason I was hesitant regarding meeting him is that he was really moving fast our first conversation – wanted to pick me up from the airport, and show me the city. This kinda creeped me out but after continuing chatting with him later I just learned that he is a really nice guy that is attracted only to Caucasians and just really wanted to meet me. So I decided to meet him. He had a complicated name so I just called him Hercules. LOL. Well I thought I'd have enough time finishing this report now but I have too much to write so I'll finish reporting PP and this entire post probably during the weekend, Happy holidays

Indeed price comes with territory. If I had more time and patience for planning then the correct action is to book the tours directly from a guide and not using the hotel as a middleman. Oh how I envy you... PP was one of my favorite destinations in this trip. I'll write about it soon. Indeed it was quite a trip. I have returned almost 3 weeks ago and I still haven't totally recovered. And you are right,13 Check-ins can be tiring I'll refer to accommodation on z909 comment. I just looked at this hotel online and it seems like a good and inexpensive hotel. It is very centrally located. The resort I have stayed (Rambutan) is in a less central location and more expensive. But, It has other advantages (4 star, pool, near Arthur and Paul). Also, as I mentioned, when contacting them directly you get a much better price (I have the manager contact details if you want). I'll write more about it on my report and it may help you decide.

When I planned this trip, I wanted to do 3 weeks in Cambodia and 3 weeks in Vietnam. But plans changed all the time so eventually I did 6 days. LOL. Siam Reap was more calm while Phnom Penh was more crazy fun. I now move on to this short report of my 2 days in SR. Landed in the Cambodian Kingdom at 9PM. Siam Reaps airport is small but really pretty. Immigration clerk was really aggressive but EVISA was processed really fast. I booked the day before 2 night at MEN's hotel (60 USD). My first gay hotel. I also booked from Pierre, the manager, an airport pickup (8USD) and a guide and tuktuk (30+15 USD) for the day after for the temples. The rate for the guide and driver is a bit of a ripoff and surly if I would have done more research in advanced I could have cut the costs in half. The hotel is really nice and fancy and the facilities are really nice. Not a lot of guests – I guess it's because of low season. Hotel's location is a little far from the city center but it is a short tuk tuk drive. First night I went to have a drink at a gay bar called Miss wong. This is a very professional bar that serves really good and relatively expensive cocktails (5USD). After a few drinks and chats I decided to go back to my hotel and go to sleep early since I was starting the temples early. Next morning I went to the temples. The temples are impressive and beautiful and the guide that the hotel booked was knowledgeable and spoke very good English. One day was enough for me. Entrance fee is 20USD for one day and there are almost a million visitors a year. My guide tells me that and then he looks back to verify that no one is hearing us. Then he said that the corrupt Cambodian government is a puppet of the Viet government and none of this money is going for Cambodian development. We had lunch together at a local restaurant. Food resembles Thai food but less spicy. At 6PM after resting I went to the hotel's Sauna. The hotel turns into a sauna everyday between 5PM and 10PM (6-8PM are the busiest). About 15 local guys, were there when I came (Friday noon). Probably in high season there is more traffic of tourists. The sauna, steam, Jacuzzi and showers are very modern, clean and well maintained. Had some steam room action with 2 cute young Khmer guys. One of them wanted to come to my room but he was not entirely my type (too young, too slim) so I decided to keep the fun in the steam room. Place is fun and sexy. At Friday night I went to see the show at Station bar. It’s a nice and sexy show. Had drinks with some tourists there and went back to my hotel. That night I was really horny but none of my Grindr options were one's I wanted to try and pursue. I knew that if I don't do something quick ill end up doing something I regret. And now my report from the Philippine's heaven – Boracay. I arrived at 6AM to Manila's international airport. Don't remember taking off or landing – after a sleepless night I slept the entire 1H flight. After landing I took a 5 mins tricycle (local version of tuktuk) to the ferry. Ferry + tricycle are about 5 USD. After 20 minutes in the boat we arrived at Boracay. Boracay is divided to stations 1-5. Station 2 is the center and stations 1-3 are in opposite directions from station 2 and are about 10 mins walk from station 2. Stations 4 and 5 are more distant and in my opinion are not good locations for accommodation. I talked to some of the tourists there a day earlier (FakeGPS) and they advised me not to pre book an hotel but to come and pick one that seems nice and it also possible to get a better offer on the spot and try to bargain (do this only during low season). So I did just that. Still tired I started looking for a nice hotel. After going to 3 start hotels and not finding one that I liked I arrived to Astoria hotel which is 5 stars. I already decided in Vietnam that 5 stars are way too much for my needs. The problem here is that to get a nice room and a well located resort you need to pay more than I am used to in SE Asia. Eventually after looking at some more 3 and 4 start hotels I returned to Astoria to negotiated price and we settled at 100USD a night. After closing the deal they upgraded my room which was really nice (surly will only happen in low season). This was the only 5-star hotel I do not regret booking. It's worth it and the alternatives are not as good as 3-4 star hotels in Manila. After checking in I immediately went to sleep for about 4 hours. Waking up I started grinding. A tourist recommended me going to Pub Crawl. A very good recommendation. Pub Crawl is a pub night tour that takes tourists around different pubs and clubs around the island and gets them drinking and dancing (17 USD for 10 free shots and a shirt). People from all nations and ages drinking, dancing and getting to know each other. I really enjoyed it. It ended at about 1:30 AM and then I went back, drunk, to my room to check if there is something interesting for that night. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this island does not have a gay scene. Grindr is mixed with tourists and local guys who are mostly money boys. Lots of traffic from money boys and lady boys on Grindr. I scheduled to meet with a Swiss guy and we decided to go to the beach together. It took us about 30 minutes just to find each other and when we finally did, it started raining. We went to my room for some 2 top's fun. Again, no problem with joiners. At morning I was hoping that weather would get better so the island and beach will look like the pictures of it. But weather was bad that day. I spent the day at the beach but it was still a bit frustrating being in paradise and not being able to really experience it because of the weather. At the evening I had a date with a local guy that works as a nurse in Boracay. We had a nice dinner and then went to his apartment. What I did not take into consideration is that the sun lotion that I bought was crap. I was 8 hours under the sun and I put lotion on myself every 2 hours which should be more than enough. At first I was unaware of how badly I was burned but at the evening my whole body changed its color from tanned white to tomato red. I felt like all the tourists that we make fun of at home, that come to Tel Aviv beaches and after a day in the sun turn entirely red. This is not supposed to happen to an Israeli guy. I spent the rest of my last night in my room agonizing. Well at least I had my desired day of sun. Just remember, use sunscreen. Good sunscreen. It's stupid sleeping in a 100USD a night hotel but saving 3 dollars when buying local sunscreen. That night I started fakeGPS-ing to Siam Reap and to Phnom Penh. I started chatting with a Thai guy. When he realized I am going to PP after SR he told me he can get me good deals for a hotel both in SR and PP. Earlier that day, I already booked MEN's at SR but I checked out his hotel in PP. He offered me a much better price than Agoda's price (45 USD compared to 60 USD) and that hotel (Rambutan hotel) is rated very well and gay friendly at the utopia asia so I told him I'll take his offer. I will later on realize he is the owner of the hotel. LOL. He also later explained me something interesting – If I'd book through Agoda, then 25% goes to them so actually this deal was very good for both of us. If any of you want to book that hotel in PP (and I will write about the hotel later) just contact the hotel by mail, they'll probably give you better rates than the ones online. He told me that most hotel managers will do the same. Next morning I was still really badly burned and spent it at the pool under a tree so the sun won't heart me again. At noon I left paradise for Manila, took my luggage and flew to Siam Reap (123 USD). Hopefully, I'll start reporting Cambodia soon. I want to finish this while my memories of the trip are still vivid and accurate. Enjoy the weekend!

Regarding Boracay, I think the gay listings mention a bar and 2 resorts. But, Actually I haven't heard anyone going there so I skipped on going there my self. As you mentioned, Grindr is active here and tourists and locals use it - so if you wanna hookup then Boracay is the same as any touristic destination in the world. But if you wanna have a gay drink or dance, I think in the Philippines Manila is your best option. Some touristic gay sites try to represent Boracay and Palawan as gay destinations but I think that's just because they are after the pink dollars and not because these destinations have a developed gay scene. Had some dead time this morning. Perfect time to try and recall gay Manila. What I forgot to previously mention is that, again, I had to book a flight out of the country at check-in at Saigon's airport. I then realized that there is no direct Manila-Phnom Penh flight but only a direct Manila – Siam Reap flight. Frustrated of having to decide how many days I will spend in this country, I booked a flight to SR a week later (123 USD). That way I was able to visit Manila for the weekend and then somewhere else I'll decide for 3-4 days before moving on to SR. Landed at Manila airport on Friday eve. Bought a local SIM at airport (5USD) – same as in Vietnam. Getting a taxi from airport was a bad experience. There are two options. Official Taxis which you have to queue for more than one hour (7 USD to my hotel) and other taxis which you don't need to wait and want 25 USD. I waited this time although I think it's not worth and after a flight it's better to take the bad ones and not wait so much in line. As I always do, I checked the gay listings regarding where to stay. Manila is a bit confusing. Supposedly, Malate is the official gay district of the city. But, nowadays the good clubs are elsewhere and Malate is just a really old and poor part of the city with some gay venues. I booked Tune hotel in Malate (33 USD). Simple hotel and simple room but it was enough for me. No problem there with joiners. I got to the room at about 11PM and rested a little. Guys I talked to yesterday (fakeGPS) advised me to go to BED bar or OBAR for good dancing. At midnight I decided to take a taxi to BED bar. It's located a bit far from Malate in a nice and safer part of the city. Took there a 5$ taxi. Got to BED bar at 12:30 AM (7$ entrance fee – including 3 cheap drinks). Although it was a Friday night the place wasn't as packed as I expected it to be but there was a nice amount of good people there. Good music and very sexy staff and dancers. After securing my plans for tomorrow I decided to visit Asia's biggest mall: Mall of Asia (MOA). MOA is a mall that you can certainly allow yourself not to visit. Tons of stores, International brands, Lots of junk food (all Manila is that way). Nothing special there and I don't think it's worth a visit. BKK malls are better. Even so, malls in Manila are cruisy. Some "straight" married guys there are looking for action. I saw that in the apps while being in MOA, and also in a smaller mall near my hotel and also sensed that just by eye contacts with some men over there. At night, after resting and still feeling a bit emotional from the weekend intense experience I decided to meet a guy and his friends at OBar (9$ for 3 drinks). Like Nab in Pattaya, G-star in Taipei and also BED in Manila, this club is with high tables in the middle. I don't like these kinds but they are common here. Luckily I was invited by the guy I talked to, to be with him and his friends table. That club has the most upscale crowd, shows, dancers and music I've seen in Manila. Try to go there only after talking to locals who go there otherwise it can feel quite lonely (that's how I felt the first 20 minutes waiting for the guy and his friends to come). I was also surprised that this was a Sunday evening and that place was packed. The guy told me they don't come here Saturdays since it's too crowded. Place is really fun. Since they all worked tomorrow we left at 3:30 AM for some fun at his apartment and I left an hour later for packing and straight to my 8AM Boracay flight. Manila was lots of fun and one of the most surprising gay destinations of this trip (like Taipei). Several things regarding Manila and the Philippines: First, here too, the two bottoms wanted me to take off the condom Second, this is the only Asian country that you have to look really hard to find a local food restaurant. Most of the food here is junk food. Upscale restaurants exist but I did not find any local ones. Third, I consider Israeli's English to be good since most of us started learning the language at the age of 10. Filipino's English is better. Almost native! This is such a refreshing change after travelling Asia for a month. Finally, I know I am generalizing, but it is my impression that out of all Asian people, Filipinos are the kindest ones. This did not feel like culture dictated kindness like Japan or smiles that are sometimes fake in Thailand. This just felt like they are generally more kind and warm people than others. I have no explanation to this impression of mine. I'll keep writing this weekend.

Yes, it was 24 Kaikan. I think you are absolutely right regarding the cruising technique. The problem with just laying in bed is that it's too passive for me comparing to the usual cat and mouse chase that I am used to. I did see lots of people just laying in Osaka's Sauna and this one as well but didn't even think about doing that (especially not when I'm with my BF) just because it seemed weird and time consuming... But maybe that's a better way with the Japanese guys. I must also add that the crowd was mainly too young and too slim for us but we weren't there on a weekend so this might also be different at weekends. This also reminds me of my military service. As a soldier you sometimes need to travel to meetings in bases that are not your home base. Entering a military base that is not the one you are regularly based in, usually requires lots of approvals that you need to show at the main entrance of the base. But, I hated the paper work and tried to avoid it since it's a waste of time. After serving too many years in the Israeli army, I can assure u that if you wave and smile at the guard and enter with enough confidence, most of the time you will be able to enter even to some of the most secured places in the country. Oh yes, you should. I kept my blue wrist band from Aniki (this is for the membership - chip inside) as a souvenir. It now lays innocently on my work desk allowing me to fantasize about that night when I get bored Indeed, no hotel in my entire trip did me any trouble with joiners. Rarely they asked for ID's but that's it. But, I knew (from this forum) that in Vietnam this can be a bit problematic so I took precautions. Continuing my Vietnam report. After barely making it on time to the flight, I landed at Da Nang Airport. I had to choose between Da Nang and Na Trang where to spend my 3 days of central Vietnam. I choose Da Nang because I also wanted to see Hoi An but some guys in Saigon told me that Na Trang is better. I didn't even consider staying in Da Nang and booked 2 nights at Ha An Hotel in Hoi An (60USD). Choosing Hoi An was the recommendations I got in the Israeli travelers forum. In my opinion, Da Nang is a better place to stay and go for day trip(s) to Hoi An and not the other way around (will explain why). My hotel was great. I arrived at 10AM and they gave me free breakfast and an early check in. Room was more than I expected especially for 3 starts. Taxi ripped me off. It seemed like a good taxi at first but the meter was fixed so I ended up paying 600000 VND instead of 400000 which is the regular price (10$ difference). I am still not sure how I could have prevented it. HoiAn is a charming city. Nice markets, lots of tailor shops and good restaurants. Too much tourists in the city but it's not too bad. Most of the people I talked to regarding Hoi An mentioned that they did really good tailoring over there. I was less successful. Too many catalogs and options made me dizzy and unable to choose. Some people told me that it is necessary to come there already with an idea of the desired tailored clothes. This city also is a relatively quite one. A good estimate for a city's Gayness is to check how many people are on Grindr in the city area. Here it was about 10. The 11th was already from Da Nang. First night I had dinner and fun with another Top from HK. We searched for a proper bottom for the night but in Hoi An there were no good options. This was the only place in Vietnam I rented a motorcycle because doing that in Saigon or Hanoi is just suicide. Here it's just a half Suicidal. LOL. It's about a 40 minute drive on the scooter to Da Nang and I enjoyed it very much. Weather was really good (or so I thought). After exploring Da Nang for a couple of hours I came to the conclusion that I am sleeping in the wrong city. This city is much more vivid, vibrant, better beaches and gayer. I realized I had 2 options for that night in Da Nang. The first was a cute muscular 43yo Japanese guy on vacation in a nice resort with some friends and the second was a 24yo Vietnamese guy that looked like a porn star or underwear model in his pictures. After my Hanoi experiences with the locals I decided to take the option I felt was more fun and genuine and went on to the Japanese guy's resort. But, I decided to shorten my Cambodian stay in favor of what every Viet guy advised me to do – and that is to visit Saigon. I arrived to Saigon at Independence Day evening. I booked 2 nights at Nikko hotel (100 USD) which is too fancy and too nice for my needs. I went out to the streets and lots of crowd out strolling the streets and some shows in the parks for the holiday. A guy from Jacked came to meet me at the park. Too young for me (22yo) but he was cute so we went to see the fireworks together. After that he took me a bit on his scooter around the city. This city is so different then Hanoi – in a good way. Much more western and capitalist. At the end of the night he took me to eat really tasty weird street food – hard boiled egges that tasted like they were cooked for ages with lots of spices. I really liked it. He said he took me there cause after I eat that my cum will taste better. LOL. Went to my room for the night and had a good and fun night together. Morning was a bit weird. I assumed that that’s it and he wanted to spend the next night with me again. I know it's only the Vietnamese side but still what is shown there is horrible. I wonder how is it for Americans to go there. I remember walking there and imagining myself one day walking in Gaza's war museum. I wondered how I would feel facing pictures of my government's war crimes. HAN airport was empty at Sunday morning and converting my prebooked EVISA to a regular one took about 5 minutes (about 40 USD + 2 passport photos). I stayed at Hanoi for 3 nights at the Somerset Grand Hanoi (100 USD). This apartment hotel is 5 stars. I booked it because I wanted to wash my cloths in the washing machine in the room. This hotel was too good for my needs and retrospectively I should have booked a 50USD hotel (same thing about Nikko in Saigon). Apartment was really big and nice and no problem in the lobby with joiners. After sleeping the entire flight and noon at the Hotel I was ready to see the city. I went by foot to explore the old town. First thing I noticed was that every time that I cross the road feels like a Russian roulette! The amount of motorcycles in the roads is something that took me some time to get used to. After a while I got used to it. I enjoyed eating street food at the pavements with the locals and, in general, Vietnamese food was by far the best local food I enjoyed in asia (I do like Thai and Japanese food but theirs is much better). At night I scheduled a date via Jacked at the only gay bar in Hanoi - GC (Golden Cock). Even though it was Sunday eve it was still quite busy at 2230. For example in the prison you can see horrible pictures of the Viet prisoners under the French control and very nice pictures of the American pictures under the Viet control. After a long day and a nap I went running around Hanoi lake (about 3 KM) – that place seemed a bit cruisy at some points. At night I met with another Viet guy. This time pictures were REALLY misleading in a way that really turned me off. I told him that I'm not into sex and he offered to have dinner. We went dining at a good Vietnamese restaurant and after a nice night I went back to my hotel alone. Two anecdotes regarding Vietnamese on Grindr and Jack'd. The first: They are Photoshop masters. After returning from the cruise I had a few hours till the night train left so I decided to get a massage. I had a flight to Da Nang (55USD) at 7:20 AM and train arrived at 6AM instead of 4:30. Rushed to the hotel to get my luggage and straight to the airport. If I would have arrived even 3 minutes later then I've arrived (6:57 AM) I would have missed my flight. Stupid train – They publish the times that they wish the train would arrive but not the actual times… probably just Vietnamese wishful thinking. Hehe. So after reporting about BKK and Pattaya (http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/9706-brief-report-pattaya-bkk/) I will now report about the rest of my trip. Pattaya and BKK were my last destinations in what I refer to as my big Asia trip. Now I will start reporting chronologically starting with Japan and Taipei. This trip started as me and my BF's honeymoon after getting married at the end of July. In total contradiction to the rest of my trip this part of the trip was entirely pre-planned. All flights, trains, accommodations were pre-booked. I don't like pre-planning too much but in Japan being spontaneous means spending more and we wanted to save as much money as we can since Japan is not cheap. Some advice for Japan travelers: 1. In the big cities (i.e Tokyo, Osaka) book from airbnb. Half the price of hotels, three times more spacious. Hotels can get really expensive there. 2. If you are planning to travel long distances, most likely a japanrail pass will be better to pre-purchase. Be advised that it can only be purchased and delivered outside of Japan soil. There are some sites that you can calculate if the pass is worth purchasing. Usually it is. 3. In contradiction to all other Asian countreis i'v been, a local SIM is expensive. A better option is to purchase a pocket WIFI. I purchased one that we both were connected to it at all times at the cost of 80 USD for 15 days. Sounds expensive but the other alternatives are worse. We are internet junkies so no internet is not a option. Especially in Japan where English is not well spoken at all and maps and Google were most helpful. The device is sent to your hotel and returned at any mailbox (including the airport). 4. Japan is expensive. But, it's reputation is as super expensive is wrong. It's exactly the same as London, Paris etc... 5. Landing and departing from different Airports (i.e. landing in Osaka and departing from Tokyo) is a more efficient way to travel the country. 6. Travel light. Lots of moving in train stations with stairs makes moving around more hassle with large suitcases. Kyoto - We stayed there 3 nights at the Citadines Karasuma Gojo hotel (160USD a night). This hotel is relatively fair price for Japan and since we didn't find a nice apartment we stayed there. Room was spacious and location was 30 seconds walk from a subway (Although not central enough - but prices double as location gets more central). This city is very touristic and everyone goes there to visit the shrines. After 2 days of shrines we got fed up of them and decided that's enough shrines for us (so we passed on day trips in Nara and Nikko). City is nice but for urban creatures like us it was a bit boring and retrospectively I would have booked there 2 nights only. Things not to miss (except shrines which i'm sure u won't miss): beautiful bamboo forest, monkey mountain with adorable monkeys and a city viewpoint. Not a lot of action going in the city - some on Grindr and jacked and mostly tourists or faraway people. Had dinner and fun with one couple in their hotel room which was way better then ours but more expensive as well (330USD a night!). After midnight we didn't find any gay or non gay interesting places to go to. Osaka (2 nights) - In some manner it resembles Tokyo. It has it's unique urban charterer and we enjoyed that city and wish we had one more night over there. We arrived on Sunday so nights were slower. Gay Osaka listings have quite an amount of places but when we went to the gay area it was quite empty (Sunday and Monday eves). My worst mistake is that I successfully managed to drag my BF into a gay sauna for the first time in his life but choosing Osaka's Hokuoukan Sauan on a Monday eve wasn't a good first experience for him. Sauna was not full of people and mostly thin Japanese guys which is not our type. Sauna's in Japan are different in a weird way. No private cabins and it seems to me that there is less action there but again - it was a Monday night (same feeling in Tokyo's Sauna in nichome). Stayed there in a nice Airbnb apartment (70 USD a night). Hiroshima (1 night) - This place was not on our way but it's worth a visit. The peace park is impressive and the museum is interesting, terrible and a bit prone. Miyajima Island that is near Hiroshima is one of the most beautiful places we've toured in Japan. We stayed Urbain Hiroshima Central Hotel (100 USD) with a good location and a tiny room. So small that if u wanna open the suitcase u need to put it on the bed. No problem with a joiner we had in our room at night. At night we started walking the city and accidentally went into a gay bar (D&M). Only us, another foreign couple and one local old guy. The entire situation was really funny and we all Kareok'ed together with English pop songs until it was late. Tokyo (8 nights) - This city is awesome!!! Excatly what I expected it to be. Half western, half eastern and half unique (yes there is a third half lol). Don't miss: - Visiting Harajuku fashion district for crazy unwearable Japanese fashion. - visiting the fish market and the Tuna auctions. Arrive a little before 4AM cause they let only 120 visitors a day. We arrived straight from a party at 4:10 AM and we were number 116 and 117 to go in. Eat fresh Sushi for breakfast there. - Watching hundreds of people crossing Shibuya junction at evening. - We went on a day trip to Fuji-Q park. There is a bus that takes u there and a bundle price with entry ticket (70 USD). The roller coasters there were one of the craziest we ever did. I also pre booked tickets to Lady Gaga's concert (250 USD premium ticket). Pre booking concert tickets in Japan is hard and there are some middlemen who do that and deliver them for a certain fee. The Japanese have a reputation of being crazy. We didn't see that much - but in that concert we saw that and more! Everyone went insane at the front rows (even 60 YO men who knew the words better then I did and tried to get closer to the stage). That experience was insane and fun. We also decided to have one expensive honeymoon dinner. I researched online and ordered seats to the Tapas Molecular Bar in the Mandarin Oriental (150USD without drinks and service). Really unique dinner where they cook everything in front of you and use really weird and cool methods and products. Rest of the food we usually went to cheap local restaurants cause the food in Japan is really good and clean almost everywhere you go. Now on to gay Tokyo. Gay Tokyo is concentrated in a small neighborhood called Shinjuku ni-chome. Un-coincidentally, our very nice and cool apartment (80 USD a night) was located 8 minutes walk from there. As I said, apartments are a cheaper and better option in Tokyo - and also no problem at all with joiners since it's just a private apartment. Every night we went out to dance and drink at that area. All the gay listings explain that there are places for Japanese only and places that are foreign friendly. We went to the same 3 main places: The Annex, Arty Farty and Dragon men as they seemed the most crowded and popular. Weekend was crazy and all places were full till 5 AM. Midweek was more quiet and at 2AM usually the place dies. Arty Farty starts early at about 10AM and u have to buy a drink at the entrance (My preferred drink, Campari and Grapefruit juice was 7 USD). The more younger crowd goes there - not me and my BF's preference but still good music, nice crowd. We picked up a young hot Italian kid there one nights. We preferred the other places since crowd was older and they were open late. Place closes at 1AM. Good thing about Arty Farty is that it's the same owner as Annex and if you have a stamp then you can enter Annex without buying a drink. Annex is, in our opinion, more fun. Crowd is more mature and mixed half Japanese and half international. Most of our hook-ups were from that place (or Grindr). Local Japanese guys were a little hard to figure out at the beginning. They can play really hard to get and they are very shy. In addition, for some of them, the fact that we are a couple and having sex with others was hard to understand. Actually they demand it at the checkin counter of the flight so what happened to me in Tokyo's airport (and later on in Siagon's) is that I had book on the spot on my mobile the next ticket. Try to avoid that situation since the stress and lack of time may cause you to book something too expensive or unconvenient. We stayed 2 nights together at the Inhouse hotel in Taipei (140 USD a night). A very gay friendly and well located hotel. Room was big, clean and nice. We wanted to finish our honeymoon in a more luxury hotel and this one suited us. Taipei is much cheaper then Japan but not even close to Thailand's prices. Exactly in between. But what was surprising for us, is that Taipei is SUPER GAY and super sexy. If you wanna buy a smartphone, it's probably the cheapest in Taiwan. We compared prices to US and also to home and they are cheaper over there. After 17 days together we split since my BF had to return home and could not continue with me to Vietnam. I stayed one last night in Taipei before my flight to Hanoi. After we split I wanted to check 2 places I read online about: XXL gym and Aniki WOW. These are gay sauna's and after our experiences in Japan I knew the chances of us going together were relatively low so I went there alone. XL Club (13 USD)- The place has the reputation of being a blend of a gym and a Sauna. I saw 1 guy using the gym and about 30 in the sauna lol.
