Jet Airways Offers Discount Fares Between Bangkok and India
Gaybutton posted a topic in Gay Thailand
The following is an excerpt from an article that appear in the BANGKOK POST. The entire article can be seen at: http://www.bangkokpost.com/161206_Business...c2006_biz88.php To avoid confusion, most of you probably are more familiar with "Kolkata" when it is spelled "Calcutta." ____ As part of its inaugural offer, Jet Airways has introduced a special return air fare of 7,800 baht on the Bangkok-Kolkata-Bangkok sector for a two-month period while economy-class fares start at 11,000 on the Bangkok-Delhi-Bangkok sector. The return airfare for Club Premiere (business class) for the Bangkok-Delhi-Bangkok sector ranges from 38,770 baht while on the Bangkok-Kolkata-Bangkok sector it is around 30,130 baht, but business class will have a complimentary companion ticket. These fares are exclusive of taxes and are only for a three-month ticket. -
The following appears in the BANGKOK POST: _____ Celebrities Seek Action Against Burma (Agencies) Actors and musicians - Tim Robbins, Peter Gabriel and others - have called on the UN Security Council to approve its first resolution on Burma, whose military regime has waged a brutal offensive against ethnic minorities. The appeal came in letters sent to the office of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan after nearly 500 activists gathered in New York earlier in the week to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Burma, the human rights group Witness said. "It is past time for the issue of Burma to be addressed by the UN's most powerful body," the letters said. "In eastern Burma, over 3,000 villages have been destroyed, forcibly abandoned or forcibly relocated in the past 10 years." The United States is circulating a draft Security Council resolution to press Burma's military government to change policies that constitute a threat to international peace and security. The letters said the council should approve the resolution before the end of the year. Celebrities who signed also included Kate Pierson of The B-52s, Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, Nile Rodgers of the band Chic, Grammy-nominated Benin singer Angelique Kidjo and American singer Suzanne Vega. Human rights groups say government troops have torched villages, killed civilians, raped women and herded villagers into military-controlled zones in an offensive against the Karen ethnic minority in eastern Burma. The government, which denies committing atrocities, has waged a nearly year-long offensive to suppress an insurgency among the Karen. The Thailand Burma Border Consortium, the main aid agency caring for tens of thousands of refugees along the Thai-Burmese border, estimates that the violence has forced 82,000 people from their homes this year. Since 1996, more than 3,000 villages have been destroyed or abandoned in eastern Burma, and more than 1 million people have been displaced, according to the agency's most recent report. Abuses have also occurred in other ethnic minority areas. The US and other countries have also urged the junta to free political prisoners including pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who is under house arrest. The US , which has slapped economic sanctions on Burma, faces a struggle in getting the Security Council to take tough action against the country. China and Russia strongly oppose putting the country on the agenda, and both are veto-wielding members of the Security Council. The junta took power in 1988 after crushing the democracy movement led by Suu Kyi. In 1990, it refused to hand over power when Suu Kyi's party won a landslide election victory.

It doesn't matter what we believe. It only matters what can be proved. You claim it came from a newspaper article, un-cited. It appears to be so and common sense also tells me that at least part of that is so. But I made no accusation and relying on common sense is not evidence. Since you did, all you need to do now is point out from which news article the post was plagiarized. Then you'll be proven right instead of asking people to simply assume you're right. For weeks now I've been reading post after post accusing Ear Wig of lying and cheating people out of money. I have also been asking that somebody, anybody, show proof or at least a shred of evidence of even one lie or one instance of him cheating people out of money. I've been asking that even one person who was the victim of being cheated for money post something and say so. And not a single one of the accusers has come up with anything at all. Nothing. I've been saying all along, if you are so ready and eager to accuse someone of lying or cheating, then post the evidence. Post something beyond the hearsay and innuendo. And nobody has. That is what I oppose.

Like hell it is. I'll be the one who decides who my 'favored few' are, thank you very much. And it's no cop out. You think I'm defending him? Not so. I'm opposing attacks, whether directed at him, coming from him, and any attacks coming from or directed toward anyone at all. I don't care whether every attacker is right or wrong. The attacks don't belong on the boards in the first place. Is that what you think these boards are for? As far as I'm concerned, that's the issue and Ear Wig is only a part of the issue. If Ear Wig stopped posting right now and never posted again, how long do you think it would be before someone else becomes the next object of flames and hate posts? This sort of thing has been going on for years. Are you under the impression that Ear Wig is the first? There have been many more before anyone ever heard of him. The first attack on this thread was posted by none other than you. As far as I can tell, your attack was not against the content of the post. It was because Ear Wig was the person that posted it. I think enough is enough and these boards ought to get back to what they were designed to do instead of all this crap. Do you disagree?

I'm sure we all appreciate you pointing out the PATTAYA MAIL warning to us. Actually, it's been on their web site for the better part of three years and I, among others, am well aware of it. I do not make accusations or assumptions about others unless there is evidence. The idea that some may not believe Ear Wig is capable of posting anything coherent or that nothing he posts is credible is not a fact. It is an opinion. Unless someone can provide evidence that Ear Wig's post is a plagiarized post, then yes, I consider it valid. It does not matter what you think, what I think, or what anyone else thinks. What matters is whether there is supporting evidence for your negative assumption and there is none. Quite frankly, I'm sick to death of reading these continual attacks against Ear Wig. I don't like attacks against anybody at all. That's not what these boards are for and I don't believe this is why GayThailand invested his time and money in creating this web site. This childish war serves only to diminish the quality of the message boards. While I do think there have been posts by Ear Wig that provoke such attacks, there are people who are attacking anything and everything he writes, no matter what it is. Is this going to continue until there are no posts at all other than flames and hatred? I've seen posts from Ear Wig that challenge his detractors to meet with him personally when he returns and discuss your problems with him face-to-face. Why don't you do that? Hell, if there are enough people willing to attend such a meeting, maybe Niddy's Nook will cater it. If you and others are trying to convince GayThailand to ban Ear Wig, it is not going to happen, so you might as well forget it. Personally, I don't much care who likes him and who despises him. If you dislike him so much, then put him on "ignore." Then you don't have to read anything he posts. This nonsense has been going on far too long. What I'm seeing is personal hatred slowly but surely taking over this message board and also Baht-Stop. I don't always like what Ear Wig posts, but that's just too bad. He has as much right to post as anyone else and he will continue to have that right until and unless GayThailand decides otherwise. Perhaps this is the moment to remind everyone that this is GayThailand's web site and his message board. His money pays for it and it's up to him to decide who can and cannot post here and what posts are acceptable and what posts are not acceptable. I suggest that those who have a problem with that contact him by PM and discuss it with him rather than continuing this public war that is doing nothing but going around in ceaseless circles. If you don't like Ear Wig's manner, spelling, grammar, punctuation, or whatever it is that causes such hatred, then I suggest either leaving the board or, as I said, placing him on 'ignore." I'm seeing this whole thing is even causing people who have been personal friends to end up becoming enemies, and not just message board enemies, but true enemies in real life. WHY? I fail to see what purpose is served. As far as I'm concerned, this is the most ridiculous, childish garbage I have witnessed since the inception of any of the gay Thailand message boards. It goes on and on and never stops. I can't speak for others, but I've seen enough of it. I think everyone is familiar with the phrase, "Nothing is certain except death and taxes." Maybe we should add, "and attacks on Ear Wig." Why not? We've got plenty already, and we'll see plenty more tomorrow as well. It's become a given. My opinion is that these message boards ought to be here to provide information and discussion relative to the gay Thailand community. I do not think these boards ought to be here to provide a place for people to post hatred. I have opposed that for many years and I still oppose it. It's ruining these message boards. I wish all of you would call a truce. How many more hate posts do we have to see?

Not at all. When I agree or disagree with a post, I'm responding to the content of the post, without regard to who posted it.

I don't understand your post, Khaolakguy. I compared this post to the article in the PATTAYA MAIL ( see http://www.pattayamail.com/current/news.shtml#hd8 ) and I see no plagiarism. However, if the post, or parts of it, have been copied and pasted from another source, then the source definitely should have been cited. If the post is a result of plagiarism, then please point out the source of it so that the moderators can check. If it is discovered that the post has indeed been plagiarized it will be removed.

Is there any information that tells us where the road begins and ends, and where entrances and exits will be?
-
I can agree with that statement and I hope your sources are correct. Another trouble is that I doubt this "gentleman" is the only one providing such "service." I'll bet there are others who simply have not yet been caught. It amazes me how the pedophile brigade manages to find out about such "services" in the first place.

News Cafe - Gaybutton's Latest Restaurant "Find"
Gaybutton replied to Gaybutton's topic in Gay Thailand
We were there from about 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. If you were facing the restaurant from outside, we were to the left at a table in the section that is slightly elevated. As a matter of fact the "Elephant Ear" is exactly what I had and I liked it very much. I'll be going agan soon with someone who is a mutual friend of ours. Perhaps you will join us. I hope so. Then you will be able to judge the reviews for yourself rather than relying on mine or the ones from your friends. What can I say? Different people have different tastes and are pleased or displeased by different things. I've been to restaurants that people have said are terrible and loved them. I've also been to restaurants that people have raved over and I wouldn't go back again if the meal was free. -
The following appears in THE NATION: _____ BoT May Tax Short-Term Speculative Capital Inflows Bank of Thailand is considering a tax on short-term speculative capital inflows as one of the measures it plans to introduce by the end of the year to limit the rise of the surging baht, Assistant Governor Nitaya Pibulratanagit said Friday. The following appears in the PATTAYA CITY NEWS: _____ Provincial Police Arrest Burmese Construction Workers in Jomtien In the early hours of Friday Morning, Police Colonel Sutat from Chonburi Provincial Police Headquarters conducted an operation in Soi 7 off the Tepprasit Road in Jomtien at a construction site campsite after he received information of illegal Burmese workers residing at the location. He assembled a team of officers and went to the location where he arrested 33 Burmese Nationals, none of which possessed a passport or work permit. They were taken to the nearby Dongtan Police Sub-Station on Jomtien Beach where they were processed. They will soon be deported back to Myanmar. __________ While that might not seem like much of a story, it raised my eyebrows because it is quite common to see stories about Burmese or Cambodian construction workers who enter Thailand illegally to work these jobs. While I feel sorry for these people, many of whom are only trying to survive through work rather than resorting to violent crime, and have wives and babies with them (see photos with the article at http://www.pattayacitynews.net/news_15_12_49_4.htm ), the problem, as I see it, is buildings are being constructed by people who have no skills whatsoever, other than common laborer skills. What that says about the quality of construction is frightening. Also, whenever I see these articles, it's always the workers being arrested. I never see anything about those who hire them being arrested. Why is that?

Last night some friends, my boyfriend, and I tried the News Cafe. We were absolutely delighted with it. It is a marvelous restaurant, fairly new, and the food was wonderful at very reasonable prices. It's a very pleasant, cordial, casual atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating available. They also accept reservations and, if this restaurant becomes as popular as I think it will, you'll need them. You'll find News Cafe in the same complex, just beyond Bruno's toward the beach, where you'll also find Gian's and Cuv

I did not realize that they force the dinner on you if you stay there. If that's what they do, then I agree with you. I never did appreciate having dinners or anything else forced on me, especially the hotels that don't let you know they do that at the time you book the room.

Seems almost like an impossibility, doesn't it? Maybe a miracle will occur and one of these days we might agree on something else. I also agree with Lvdkeyes about the Ravi. It's a hole-in-the-wall, to be sure, but if I'm going out for Indian food, that's my first choice.

You have the right person. I wasn't familiar with those terms then and until now I wasn't familiar with the others. I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what "bump' means. Sorry, I do not get cuts, discounts, freebies, or anything else from any venues. I have neither asked for any nor have any been offered.
-
One reason that I have not personally helped is because I don't know what you're talking about. I don't have the first clue what you mean by "sticky" or "bounce." Those are new posting terms to me. How about explaining what those terms mean and letting us know exactly what you would like us to do? By the way, another term I sometimes encounter is "bump." I don't know what that one means either. I sincerely apologize for my ignorance.

It would have made newspaper headlines for a few days, given some politicians an opportunity to make some grandstand promises, would have eventually fizzled out, and nothing whatever would have actually been done. Sort of like the way things are often done in the USA . . .

The following appears in THE NATION: _____ RISING BAHT Govt Intervention is Ruled Out Exporters Told to Make Adjustments; BOT Ready to Stem Currency Volatility Economic tsar Pridiyathorn Devakula yesterday sternly warned exporters that they had better prepare to battle the baht problem for another year and not entertain hopes the government would bail them out. It was incumbent on exporters to make appropriate adjustments for currency risks, he said. The Bank of Thailand has confirmed that it has prepared measures to stem baht volatility and the measures would be rolled out as called for, said Pridiyathorn, a deputy premier and the finance minister. But his ministry would not introduce any measures to help exporters as exports are still showing robust growth and it's the central bank's job to stabilise the Thai currency. "I'm concerned about the stronger baht. The [central bank] governor is also concerned, and [industry Minister] Kosit [Panpiemras] is concerned too. And [we've] been concerned for months. But the central bank has several measures and they will gradually introduce them," Pridiyathorn said. "The Finance Ministry does not need to initiate any measures as our exports still grow well. We shouldn't get involved. The central bank has already taken good care of it. They can handle it, as they have done all the time," he added. The baht has gained 13-14 per cent against the US dollar this year, surpassing the rise of several regional currencies. Yesterday, the baht opened at Bt35.23-Bt35.28 and peaked at Bt35.21 before slipping to Bt35.22-Bt35.24 at close of trading. Pridiyathorn, the ex-central-bank governor, said the stronger baht has hurt local exporters but all exporters in the Asian region have been affected as well. The reason that regional currencies have picked up in value is the flagging confidence in the US economy, which faces the intractable problem of foreign debts, trade deficits and current-account deficits. This has worried investors and they have shifted their funds into Asian markets. "The stronger currencies have affected all Asian markets. This was caused by the larger country. We have to consider what to do to lessen the impact. This is similar to waves, which rock all boats. These waves have been out there for a year and are expected to last another year. It's the duty of the central bank to take care of it," he said. "Large exporters have already made adjustments for the stronger baht, but smaller ones have not. I have warned them all the time. "This and last month have seen foreign capital flooding in, but it has been quite stable this time," he said. "The recent intervention of the central bank did not cause any problems. With the baht used in the intervention, we got dollars back into our international reserves." Sangsit Pirirangsan, chairman of the committee on fiscal and financial institutions affairs at the National Legislative Assembly, said he has accepted a petition from Winai Senneam, a former Democrat MP, demanding a probe into the abnormal appreciation of the baht. The soaring baht has buffeted farmers and businessmen for almost a year. Sansit said the committee would meet on Wednesday and would invite the central bank governor to explain the issue to the committee.
