Every one of my favorite professors, even in so-called 'lecture' classes of 30+ students, leaned on us all to participate, and contribute, and be present, and make it a seminar.

Mutual respect was the core principle given to us as students by those key figures. The first time we had been treated as true, full, responsible adults. (My parents treated me that way, and asked much; but these university teachers were the first adults not bound by some family obligation to ask the best of us.)
It was beyond glorious.
