Ty, I laughed the first time I read this, and then again the second time. Let it not be said that we are without humor at MER. On how many websites do we even know who the owner is? For me, it's two, This one and the other one.
In the other cases, we don't seem to care who owns the site. But, for some reason, the owner of these sites is much more conspicuous. If I never knew who the owner was, I wouldn't even attempt to help direct the way the site is run. I would just take it or leave it. That's a pretty passive reaction. I wonder if there's a support group for that.
For some reason, these community forums have become more personal. Personalities are much more important in the success of the site. Tell me where we find the perfect personality and I will show you a fraud. Just like families, there is constant re-working of relationships, arguments, good times and bad times.
We stick them out because we want to participate in the life of the family. Once we decide we don't want to participate, then we stop the effort to improve the relationships. I haven't come to that point. These sites provide me entertainment and often friendship, and until they don't, I'll keep trying to improve them to the extent that I can.
Over time I have come to like the owners, both of them. So shoot me if I don't hold grudges (for long!) after a fight.
