Oz, that is one friggin' hell of a long trip from Asia to South America. You don't want to enjoy the weather and feast your eyes on all of those hot men for a day or two before taking the "deep plunge" amongst all of those heavenly bods at the saunas??? I'll echo some of the previous thoughts and warnings. Club 117 is indeed closed on Mondays, but Meio Mundo is there, and if "push comes to shove" and you are in dire need of some Brasilian "blessings," remember there is always Pointe 202!!!

I ditto TotallyOz's comments. Although I've done a "cultural route" of Rio-- I still would like to experience a "heavy dosage" of Lapa on a Friday night. In 2002 Ernani, a guide and escort at the time who had a well-paying job during the day, and I went to Lapa, but we merely meandered around throughout the throngs of folks for almost two hours, never venturing into any restaurants or clubs. I want to do both of the latter activities the next time I'm in Rio. I want to do a lot of different things yet a few that I've done previously. Rio de janeiro is my most favorite city in this world of ours!

When I went to Foz do Igauzu, my guide asked me if I'd wanted to go to a sauna that was in the area. I chose NOT to because that was NOT my reason for going to the area, but the prime reason was I wanted to experience the saunas in Rio and Sao Paulo. I did go to a great sauna that's in Curitiba, but I also did the cultural route during the day and enjoyed the overall experience.

Tom, no one could have higher standards than you. From your innumerable and vast postings of hot guys and from the guys who I have seen you around-- you have stellar tastes in men! Many of the guys you've pictured here would meet my fastidious state!

All of the saunas that are in the key cities which have been visited by us have a variety of body types. More than likely you'll see many guys who interest you, but when you go to the saunas-- don't let the first guy who approach you take you. Observe first and see who excites you; then go for the "plunge." Don't let the guys know that it is your first time in Brazil or in the saunas; just give a nice noa and leave it at that. I found that the guys accept very simple responses. I, unfortunately, am an overweight man who is NOT at all pleased with his body at this age. I hope to work on it, but I've never had any of these fine men "turn me down" because of my physique. In fact, I have an aversion to wearing towels; thus during my last two visits-- I've worn a nice colored t-shirt and some boxers--solid color and my own flip flops. This did not deter the "boys" from wanting to have company with me. They are there to earn $$$$'s and to provide what they consider they can "do best" to satisfy themselves monetarily and to deplete the horniness that exist amongst many of us. TRY NOT to fall in "love!" In my seven visits in six years during this decade-- although many of the guys are quite handsome/cute/attractive and have "sweet" personalities for the most part-- I've enjoyed the "guys'" company, but I have not "fallen in love" and made a fool of myself in having the guys with me all over Rio de janeiro, buying them clothes or taking them on trips or having them contact me back in the States. Before I travel to any country now, esp. if it for culture and perhaps a few sexual liaisons-- I've have read what's available on the websites and have used this guidance; thus I've been fortunate enough not to have encountered any unforeseen or adverse difficulties. ASK queries here or at the two other aforementioned sites, and I am certain that you will be receiving some salient answers.

If you can't speak Brazilian Portuguese and this will be your first visit to "my favorite country and city," by all means hire a guide. Drey, at www.gaytravelbrazil.com, has two or three guides in Rio who he could recommend. I do not know their rates, but on my first three or four trips to Rio and to other parts of this country-- I've had a guide which I've found to be quite invaluable. i needed this guidance as well as someone who was fluent in Brazilian Portuguese since I am not! I'd suggest that you read all pertinent information at www.daddysreviews.com in the archives via doing a search for specifics as well as what is on Drey's site. Also, continue to ask questions here! Prior to my first and second and third trips-- I devoured and used the information which was afforded to me, and by my doing this, my trips were enhanced.

In 2006 I visited Curitiba for four days and found it to be a very comfortable city to visit. Its inhabitants are principally of European descent, it's an ecologically-centered place, and was relatively quite clean. I think you'd like this place for its slower pace and initial comfortability. <I stayed at a very nice hotel which began with an "S"--.> Take the bus tour at your own pace; it covers a lot of territory, and as for as the sauna scene goes, I went to one which was quite pleasant. Because I was not up to par healthwise, I went and sat and watched my friend enjoy himself. Many cute guys approached me, but, much to my chagrin, I had to turn them down-- courteously and politely. A few asked my friend who accompanied me and who saw a few guys that night what was "up with me!" He smiled and feigned innocence. One of these years, I plan to return to enjoy the culture and definitely Curitiba's men!!!!

I thank you guys for posting on this thread. I appreciate all of the salient comments; they definitely help. Last week a guy, supposedly from Columbia, was there. He had the brightest blue, piercing eyes. The guy gave us shows for free; then when we had our pvts, men it was a sight to behold. I mistakenly had him for almost 1000+ minutes and am out of over $100+ dollars. I was in attendance, and that is one event that will always remain in my mind! A swell time was had by all.. Tom was one of the gracious hosts since he knew many of the invited guests (the sauna guys)! After the party/festa-- we went down to the restaurant with the yellow awning. At that time (October 2003) "it rocked" after 12:00a. While there I managed to pick up a cutie after asking Tom about him. The guy had been an exchange student and came from a family of educated parents. He and I ventured back to The Atlantico for our late night dessert. Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! - <Some of us had brought t-shirts to distributed to our invited guests, so I must concede to Tom's figure of 80 hot guys. I'm glad to hear that Danilo has moved on with his cute and now 22 or 23 year old self. He was 18/19 when he was my guide (on two occasions), and he worked extremely well. Sorry Lucky had a different experience the second time around. I love BRAZIL. I've managed to travel a bit while there and not knowing the language, but I, too, prefer to have a guide assist me during my visits to various parts of this vast country. Although I feel comfortable going it alone to cultural venues as well as to some saunas while in both Rio and Sao Paulo, I'd still rather have a guide who is adept in the language, the history, the culture, the ins and outs of his city. <Have had 3 different guides while inSP.>
