    Are they nuts?

Apparently, the top three Republican candidates are all comfortable with the idea of a U. S. war with Iran. Gingrich and Romney said so during the North Carolina debate last week, and Cain said so in an interview with Bill O'Reilly earlier in the month. It doesn't seem to phase any of them that Iran has close ties with both China and Russia, who may have their own attitudes about such U. S. aggression. So let's see: at least one new war in the Middle East with Iran, saber-rattling against Egypt's military, no new taxes to pay for it, indifference to those without health care at home, and cuts to Social Security now that there's no longer a surplus to borrow against. Quite an enlightened bunch, these three.
  2. Saúde! Sorry to hear of your misfortune, and hope the sauna managers had the foresight to take out a very generous trip cancellation policy on the both of you.
  3. It was only a matter of time.
  4. Congrats! (You notice I asked first? I do not fish off my neighbor's pier. ) You are indeed blessed. The roses are the topper, and hopefully not the only one in the relationship.
  5. Are you suggesting that Lucky may be a bit short of patience?
  6. Anyone else notice the hottie draped over the top? Is he anyone we know?

    The Theater

Didn't you used to be on the outskirts around here once upon a time? And now you're one of the in-crowd. Maybe you're just the guy someone is looking to see a play with. Or play with. As I recall, Falstaff managed to have a good time without exactly being anorexic.
  8. Thanks for this, TY! I really wanted to like the new Honda Civic but it sounds like they're intent on shooting themselves in the foot.
  9. Lucky, I think it's really good. There wasn't a single article that wasn't of interest and your writing style is very pleasant to read: light, friendly, and with a wink. No doubt it took some major effort to put together and I thank you. I suspect The Lucky Reader won't be coming out twice a week. Must admit, I haven't read all the pieces yet. I've had company and, even if I hadn't, I probably wouldn't finish it in one sitting. For me, any comments will probably be spaced out over time. (This is only fitting, as I myself am often spaced out over time. ) If others read it the same way, you may find that responses aren't as plentiful and immediate as they would be if the content were spread out over multiple posts. But, however you serve it up, I'm looking forward to the next edition. Well, off I go. I want to check out that little Johnson article. Thanks again!

  11. Best thing I ever read! It fits the bottom of the cage perfectly too. Can't wait for the second installment. Talented writer, this Lucky fella. Who's Totally Oz? Dunno, but it sure makes me homesick for Rio. Pass me a cracker, would you?

  16. From the child porn article: Steve Maresca, the assistant state attorney in the case, said that in his view, Mr. Vilca "received a sentence pursuant to the sentencing guidelines." "Too many people just look at this as a victimless crime, and that's not true," he said. "These children are victimized, and when the images are shown over and over again, they're victimized over and over again." What if there were no victims? My understanding is that computer-generated images and the like are just as illegal as photographs of actual people. Maybe sentencing guidelines make a distinction but, even then, couldn't a sentencing judge blur the line? I also tracked down the article on the two Pennsylvania judges who sent kids to a for-profit pokey in return for kickbacks. Nasty pair. Four thousand juvenile convictions overturned. Remind me to avoid the legal system.
  17. Congrats, MsGuy! It's always nice to know we're surrounded by folks who aren't quite as goofy as the pundits say they are. Of course, it would be nice if the pundits weren't quite as goofy either.
  18. I understand that Cinderella's mean ol' stepsisters did a critically and commercially unsuccessful cover of Bippity-Bobbity-Boo and later went on to become active Tea Party organizers for the Anaheim Chapter of Republican Women for Social Injustice. . . . 19. If memory serves, Columbus not only mirrors national demographics, it's also a relatively inexpensive and self-contained media market. Before spending mega-millions on advertising for a national rollout, companies can get a pretty good idea if the ad campaign will bring in the customers. If it bombs, they're down only mega-thousands. I expect the folks in Columbus see a lot of new products and new advertising that the rest of us will never hear about. . . . . . . . . .. .. .. . ..

  22. On average, that was, in all probability, one of the least random posts I have read in a long time, despite its Lucky origins. One is left wondering, though, based on the relatively small sample size, how many standard deviations appeared during the time you were together, and whether or not Chebyshev's inequality came to the fore. Of course, one mustn't pry or leap to any conclusions if a large number of discrete variables were factored into the analysis.
  23. How nice! I'm hosting a houseguest for a couple of weeks and am failing to keep up with my homies here at MER. What a pleasure to hear my little offerings have some entertainment value! Today was the first day in a year that I couldn't at least peek at all the threads, and I worry that Tomcal has posted a series of beer-can twink images somewhere South of the Border. I'm very glad that there are so many posters here who will join me in keeping an eye out for such an event.
