Barcelona - Sauna Thermas
msclelovr replied to hurstwickham's topic in European Men and Destinations
In my experience, on the Apps or sites like telechapero.com -
I very much enjoy your reports @numazu1 but I thought this was a particularly telling observation on your part. To locals (working guys and others), European and North American visitors must seem very strange: spending thousands of $ on flights and vacation costs yet haggling over a few $ when it comes to personal services. When I travel in less developed countries, I try to act with restraint while being generous in inviting guys to dinner or to accompany me on trips. But it is difficult: what we see as moderate expenditure, they may view as a fortune.

Argentina: Mileage run and new years
msclelovr replied to JuanP's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
I very much like the culture, nightlife and architecture in Buenos Aires @JuanP so I’ll try to answer your questions. To put my comments in context, I have made more than 12 visits to Argentina. Each trip was for at least a month, but my last visit was 6 years ago after I witnessed 2 robberies/assaults in daylight in the best part of Buenos Aires. You talk about the ‘holiday’ so I guess you mean Xmas-New Year. Most Argentines spend this time with their families, but there will be some guys in the city. Rich Argentines go to Punta del Este (Uruguay) for the beach, restaurants etc while middle-class portenos may be in the countryside or at some of the Argentine resorts. Generally the city is fairly deserted in the first 2 weeks of January but it will get busier as the month progresses and be back to normal (ie very hectic) in February. If you go to Punta del Este, my strong advice is to take a companion from the city with you. You might meet a guy there, but it’s unlikely (unless you’re young and handsome). There was one gay beach years ago (close to the urban areas of Punta) but on my one visit it was all couples. At the Argentine resorts such as Mar de Plata or Pina del Mar there may be some working guys from the city as well as local working guys. Mar de Plata had more of a scene and some guys advertising. You also mentioned skiing. I’ve done that in the Lake District and northern Patagonia, but I doubt the ski resorts will be open when you visit. I went in May and there was plenty of snow at the high elevations. You might be able to do some cross-country skiing but remember this is true wilderness: without a local guide, you can easily get lost and be beyond the range of any help from emergency services. In BA itself (and I assume that you do speak Spanish) you will be able to contact working guys readily. If you’re reasonably fit, I’d suggest you frequent a local gym - the Megatlon chain had lots of gay men as members, and the Alto Palermo mall has a large Megatlon gym that was cruisy. My last pieces of advice are to dress well at all times (Argentines can be vain and they certainly take pride in their appearance), to stay in a hotel with good security (Reception will check the ID of any visitors to your room) and if you want to take a stranger home, please take him to a ‘telo’ (local term for a love-hotel that rents rooms by the hour). In BA there is no anti-gay discrimination and you are unlikely to encounter any prejudice. But it is very rare to see any PDA by gay men or lesbians. -
Maximum you have ever paid to a sauna boy?
msclelovr replied to Latindude's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Very interesting observation @demedici It reminded me of how I paid the very full asking price once. I dated a Brazilian musclegod several times when he lived in Europe. He had a fine-featured handsome face and a beautiful hard, ripped body. He had been featured on the covers of a couple of fitness magazines. He always had limits (I had to use condoms, I could not unload in his mouth etc) but we had fun together. He moved back to Brazil but we kept in touch and a few months later, when he knew I was going on holiday to the beach resort of Punta del Este, he asked to join me. I was unsure but he said he would pay for his own airfares if I would pay for all meals, drinks etc for the 4 days we’d be together. As his fee, he asked US$2000 but he promised to do “everything, no limits”. I did not haggle on the price. We had a terrific time. He was of course amazing arm-candy in the restaurants and clubs. His allure was compounded by the tight clothes he wore - Versace tops and jeans that looked as if they’d been sprayed on, and Speedos at the beach. He was attentive and devoted throughout. And each day and night, he kept his promise: I topped him a couple of times each day and he sucked me off, no condoms; I unloaded in his mouth and he swallowed my loads. He did everything possible to please me. Sometimes you have to pay a lot to get a lot. -
@Tomcal Am I the only one thinking it's lucky the robber didn't just shoot at you through the apartment door? I'm certainly aware of that happening with robberies in Cape Town, for instance, where the robbers being frustrated just fired their weapons.

Sao Paulo and Rio - November 1 to 11
msclelovr replied to pauleiro's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Hot report @pauleiro -
I went there for a long weekend with a gay Polish friend who had lived there previously. This was 3 years ago. Krakow is lovely and had exceptional food at low prices compared to Warsaw. There were some goodlooking young men in the local gay club but I didn't need to hire. NB I was reliably informed that there are homophobic attacks and public display is best avoided.

Who said that Brazil is not a violent place?
msclelovr replied to mvan1's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
That’s very shocking @mvan1 More so because it happened to a young Brazilian who would have known his way around. And I share the feelings of @sydneyboy1 I have travelled extensively in Latin America and Africa and I always take security measures and stay alert. I’ve learned over the years of many incidents that go unreported by local media yet extreme violence is a routine feature of these incidents. -
IIRC there was such a survey maybe 10-12 years ago in San Francisco. A video-store manager remarked that more single women rented gay porn videos at the weekends. A local gay paper did a survey of other stores and confirmed this. I’m not surprised at all by these findings. Generally the men in gay porn are young, pretty and well-groomed with smooth, muscled bodies.

The dangers of using the "second brain"
msclelovr replied to likeohmygod's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
There’s lots of good advice here from various posters. But I want to applaud @likeohmygod for taking the time to detail his experience and to acknowledge openly how easily things can go wrong. It’s good to remind us all that bad things can happen to good guys. My guess is that almost all of us (with a certain experience of hiring companions in various places over the years) will have had something similar occur. -
Full of himself, cocky and rude...would about cover it. I don't know him personally but I have several Brazilian friends (1 actor, 5 models and personal trainers) who work full-time. I was with a group of them, having a good time over drinks, when I met him. I didn't recognise him until I was told his name, and then I remembered him as a young man. I can read Portuguese but I cannot follow it when spoken, so I have to rely on what 2 of my friends said. To be precise, one friend commented on how casually insulting EN was and I later confirmed this with the other friend. His casual remarks or insult centred on my being an old man and so the friend I'm close to must be a whore, sucking my cock for my money etc. My friend countered that he enjoyed being with me and that he had stayed with me in Europe on holiday. I had the impression that this exacerbated matters and that EN was simply jealous of the success of some of my friends. AFAIK, EN is still in Brazil and gets little work as a model.
-
I saw EN a few (maybe 5) years ago. He's filled out now, so no longer lean and ripped, but he's muscled up. He's no longer built to my taste but many would consider him attractive still. What I found unattractive about him was his obnoxious attitude - two Brazilian friends confirmed that he was similar when younger but then he hid it better

I take issue with what you wrote @trencherman ‘de mortuis nihil nisi bonum’ Of course, you may not be aware that Roberto died in a domestic accident a few years ago. He was always a good friend to me - keeping in touch between my visits to Argentina, giving dinner parties for me when I was there, introducing me to his friends etc - and I was happy to reciprocate when he visited Europe. AFAIK Roberto did not cease to be a friend when Tri “lost everything” (as you put it). Rather he never considered Tri to be a friend. Tri was merely an acquaintance, and made use of Roberto’s contacts in Buenos Aires. Roberto commented that he never understood Tri and what he did, and he assured me that he had seriously warned Tri about getting involved with the young Brazilian. Roberto related a number of incidents that had convinced him the young man was only there to make use of Tri and, what were to a dirt-poor Brazilian, his economic advantages.

Questions for a Trip to Brazil Fall 2018
msclelovr replied to HiThereAll's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
You’re right @Walker but I would add ice-cubes to the list of things to avoid. -
As usual @Tomcal hits the nail on the head. Roberto of Buenos Aires and I were friends. He knew all the details (as Tri considered him a friend, tho Roberto told me they were not) and he was scathing about what he considered to be the folly on Tri’s part. Even before the break-up, he told me the Brazilian had met a German (IIRC) in Rio; the German was enamoured of him and took him on vacation in Europe. I know of a similar folly. A retired Army officer went on holiday to Rio and came back with a slim young man (some 25-30 years younger). Installed in a comfortable home in Europe and taken care of, the young man indulged in all the desserts, cake and ice-cream he’d never had as a child. It took less than 2 years for the slim young man to turn into a blob, and that killed the retired older man’s desire for him.

This is not a scientific survey, but... I was in Berlin for a week in August. For a large capital city in Summer, I was surprised that there were so few attractive young men. Only a couple of men could be considered physically splendid. Most young men were simply not in shape. Somehow I had thought that I'd see many guys with the same level of physical fitness and beauty as is usual in London, LA and Sydney.

Rio Update August 2018...Badboys Feedback
msclelovr replied to Badboy81's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Thanks for taking the time to report @Badboy81 . I found your observations and comments interesting. Where do you feel you might prefer to stay on your next trip to Rio? -
Sorry to hear of your medical problem @Tomcal and I hope you are feeling much better now. It's a very common condition if you're over 50. I too was diagnosed with it early this year. You're right in that if surgery is needed, it's minimally invasive. In my case, the hernia (or opening) is so tiny that it's below the minimum size for the operation. I control the symptom of heartburn by diet (no fatty/fried/spicy foods, less alcohol, no citrus etc) and that seems to work for me. The Mayo Clinic website is very helpful. And one last comment on your observation about comparative healthcare costs: in the UK, I saw my family Dr on a Friday morning and had the gastroscopy in a central London hospital on the Tuesday afternoon; including the final discussion with the specialist consultant on how to manage the condition, it was 2 hours in the hospital; total cost NIL.

I'll be moving to Montevideo in 2020
msclelovr replied to a topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
@marylander1940 Where do you plan to spend the Southern Hemisphere winters? I enjoy Jose Ignacio very much in the Summer as it is both very relaxed and highly social...depending on what you want. I don't care for Punta del Este otherwise very much, although there is good shopping. FWIW I found Montevideo dull on a brief visit a few years ago. I was told good and bad reports. Local gay friends have told me it's easy to meet young men if you are generous and sociable. The bad news came from the BBC correspondent in Uruguay whose parents live in Montevideo; she informed me that there was an increasing level of street crime and domestic burglaries.
