Just to ad to the transport info on Barcelona... There is a cheap and fast 'Aerobus' service from the airport. It stops at Plaza Espana (the large square to which Thermas and the hotels mentioned above are close). It too costs less than $5. Within the city, the Metro/subway is cheap, fast and air-conditioned. The ticket-machines take credit-cards. If you plan to use it often, buy a T-10 ticket which gives you 10 trips within the city for less than $1 each.
