Another thing to bear in mind: a proportion of people who recover from a bout of Covid infection have ongoing health problems (so-called "long Covid"). It's not a binary issue of dying vs. recovering.

Even with insurance that provides cover outside the USA, I would not travel to Brazil at present without medical evacuation coverage if hospitalization was needed for Covid

The overall new infection rate in Brazil (9.7 cases per day/100K population and falling) is now lower than in the USA (15.3 cases per day/100K and rising). But access to advanced health care if needed is still an issue in Brazil, even with the best health insurance.
