Well what else is there to do in Santo domingo besides be a slut? The hubby and I decided to take a quick jaunt down for my birthday, march 15th, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me. Lol!!!

We came VERY CLOSE to canceling this trip because of the Carona Scare and false rumors about being banned from coming back into the country.

Thursday, the day before the trip, I WhatsApp manny and a few other ppl I know in the DR to assess the situation/mood in their country regarding the carona scare.

They all told me that the country was fine and operating as it always does, with little to no concern about the virus.

The hubby and I decided to go and have a good time. When we landed, the line in immigration was wrapped around the wall. The wait to get to one of the 2 agents who were checking documents was at least 1.5 hours. It was insane.

We finally get out of immigration to our awaiting driver,  jesus.  Sure we could take an uber into town, but this guy has been our driver for years and hes like family to us now. Plus, he has a nice mini van that he picks us up in to take us to our apartment. 

My husband and I had an 10 p.m. appointment scheduled, but had to push it back because of the long line in immigration. We were tired, but our motto is, "shit, we came here to fuck so let's fuck."

I had some friends go for Labor Day weekend, and they said it was fun, but they wouldn’t go back until the curfew is lifted.  I was under it for 2 days and it’s not something you want on vacation.

Thank you for confirming my belief. Hopefully they will lift the curfew before we go In November or we will cancel the trip. I couldn't stand having to be in by 5 p.m. each night.

I put it in the simplest format possible. Most people should know by now what the pandemic graphed ‘curve’ means, the ongoing rates of new and total cases. The two subsequent points refer simply to odds of something. 

There are three sentences. Which of them is problematic for you? Perhaps you would be willing to take a stab at writing a few words about what you think they mean. Information, not advice. For decision-making, the state of COVID at any point of time is my governance. I have discovered that most people go by instinct. I may use spidey-intuition to a point but being a numbers nerd I cannot stop the algorithmic calculations from suffocating and pushing out my sixth sense.

If you indicate some or all of: where you reside ordinarily, where you are on the continuum from home isolation to full-on community integration, the number of flight passengers for travel to LRD, the number of people with whom you expect to interact in a way transmission is possible, and whether you plan hotel versus DIY accommodations and self-catering versus meals out, it is easier to assess and give more info but I do not give advice. Also what standards of exposure mitigation are you aligned with and intend to follow, that is, all of the recommended and scientifically grounded ‘hygiene theatrics’ including face-covering.

Easier still, if you provide a metric for your risk tolerance/aversion with respect to contact with others it helps to guide travel choices. For example, what is the highest figure, on a scale of 0-100%, that you can tolerate for the probability of being exposed to one or more (ie, minimally one, at least one, not zero) persons with contagious COVID status during the course of an event, in this case the duration of a trip?
