I like the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. I know it’s a bit far from Patpong but it’s on the skytrain and has a magnificent pool in a tropical paradise. The service is wonderful.

The old Lagoa, how I miss you!

I have stayed at the Meridian and the Athenee. I found the pool at the Meridien disappointing small and rather cramped. The pool at the Athenee is magnificent. A huge lagoon like affair with well spaced loungers.

I had lunch at the “new” Dusit Thani last December and took the opportunity to look over the place. It’s very nice and the location is excellent. I might add it’s very expensive.

My last visit was May last year.

I’m not for one moment disputing your experience however speaking personally I have not had a payment issue at Thermas. They have excepted the agreed amount at the end. I have certainly had a few negative experiences in the Brazilian saunas however only one that was very nasty.

Can people relate their experiences of bringing “local” guests to their room in 5 star hotels in Bangkok?

A question about Glam’s. Is extra service an expectation along the lines of Senso and Prince?

The problem with insurance of any kind is that you hope you will never need it but only find out how good a company is when you make a claim that you wish never happened. The great conundrum with insurance.

I have asked this question of a few ex pats I have met in Thailand. Virtually all have pre existing conditions that make health insurance unattainable. They are relying on savings to get them through a health crisis and just hoping for the best.

I have been to Thailand at least a dozen times. Last year I was in Bangkok in June and December and never noticed much difference. Beach resorts like Pattaya the difference would be more pronounced.

I stay at the Olivia Balmes. A good modern 4 star hotel in a very convenient location.

As an aside the Dusit Thani has been rebuilt and opened in September. Last December I had lunch there and had look around the place. It’s very nice and I would keen to hear a first hand report from anyone has stayed there.

As I’m reading this I’m watching a news bulletin on Bangkok’s air pollution. According to this report Bangkok is the world’s 5th most polluted city. It occurs during the cool season and is now an annual event.

I only went to Jey Spa once. I just walked in and there were only 2 boys available. If you “pre book” does the owner ensure there is a reasonable stable available when you arrive or what?
