I’m not trying to sound like a gatekeeper here, but most GPs want to get paid immediately after the service ends, unless they know you well and trust you enough that they will get paid soon enough. As a non-Brazilian resident, if you’re using Pix through Wise, Remitly or another remittance transfer service. It can take hours to even a day for the transfer to complete… and the first time you send to someone, you need to have a whole lot of info on that recipient in Brazil — full name, residential address, CPF, banking info, sometimes the address of bank — the exact Pix code the receiver uses (CPF, mobile number, or email) for the bank account to deposit it into.
If you already have a Brazilian bank account, Pix is very fast and reliable. The speed is NOT reliable if you’re remitting it from an international bank. Most of these working guys do not have hours to wait for their couple of hundred reais from you — especially not from a tourist that could skip town the next day without payment (yes, that happens!).
Also, there are times when certain garotos can’t access their Pix or their bank accounts are blocked, and they need to get paid in cold hard cash. It’s no guarantee who this will be, so you had better know this upfront before booking the date! Don’t assume everyone accepts Pix at all times. 
As a Brazilian resident with a bank account here, I use Pix, Wise and Remitly almost all the time — but when I wasn’t a resident, its reliability and speed of arrival was a lot less predictable.

I have been using PIX to pay for GPs and other stuff for more than a year now.
I haven't withdrawn cash from the ATM nor used cash since then.
Brazilian Wise and Remitly do have PIX, but as far as I know, it is a 'bank/account' transfer (to PIX). Most of the time is quick but sometime it might take a while.
PIX from bank/fintech's app is 'instant'.

Just a reminder in case: you'll need a yellow fever vaccine/booklet going to Colombia from Brazil...

Obviously Rio and SP is where the main action is, but I really had a blast in Salvador too. Some of the best sexual encounters of my life there.

The saunas provide more than enough options for a first timer but garotocomlocal in my experience is generally reputable if you're sensible. However the risk is never zero, just bear that in mind. Never go to them, always bring them to you (motel/ apartment etc, put away all valuables, money, dangerous objects etc).

I only discovered Brazil around 3 years ago and even I've seen a significant decline in the quality of guys frequenting Lagoa. The first time I went just after covid it was amazing. All the talent is online or overseas now. That said if you like hot athletic favela boys I can't recommend Salvador highly enough. Had an amazing time there last year despite going with low expectations. It made a nice change to Lagoa and 117.

I'd recommend Salvador if you're considering another city for a decent sauna experience and lots to do. It's not SP or Rio but if you temper your expectations you can find some real sexy gems there. All the Baianos i've been with are freaky in the sheets! I'll also be around in September hopefully.

Although I had a pleasant time visiting the area and doing a lot while at the falls from both sides, it was not as much fun during the evenings.
 I'd also return to Salvador (Bahia) and take a couple or more tours with the superb and well-respected tour guide Fernando who's written up rather, rather well at TripAdvisor.  The guide who I had was Fernando's mentor, and when I wrote to him on Facebook, he mentioned what I mentioned.  Both men are professional and just grand.  ...never met Fernando personally but did recommend him to two of my friends who did use his services and was mighty delighted,
Do the Amazon area.  At the time of my almost month's travel during the early 2000s, I had a gay travel agent in Rio (now unfortunately deceased).  He planned a superb four days for me from my posada, a gorgeous day guide who stayed on the premises with his manager mother, and everything.  I only had to arrive; everything else was taken care of; a time that I shall always remember.  To date I can't remember particulars and to name of lodging.
To answer your initial query, a month is not too long as long as you have planned prior to arrival.  I have an acquaintance who goes to Brazil on a yearly basis and stays for a month; he's going in May in 2025 but has gone at other times during his travels to "Mother Brazil."

KJ, I can easily imagine spending a month in Brazil (or two, or three).
As you mentioned, Salvador is a great city - and some of the best beaches in the country are nearby: Taipu de Fora, Boipeba, Itacare. Plus you can do deeper into Bahia for the wonderful hiking and daytrips from Lencois in Chapada Diamantina.
I really like Nordeste - Fortaleza and Sao Luis in particular. One of my all-time favourite beaches in the world, Canoa Quebrada, is a couple of hours from Fortaleza. Inbetween Fortaleza and Sao Luis there is one of the world's biggest wonders - Lencois Maranhenses (not to mix up with Lencois in Chapada Diamantina) near Barreirinhas, I was gobsmacked when I saw it. (easier to do as a 2day/1night trip from Sao Luis with an overnight in Barreirinhas)
Iguazu Falls - incredible, more spectacular than Niagara, and you can easily see it from both BR and AR sides, and they are so different in those two viewpoints - could easily be done as a 2day/1night trip from anywhere
Brasilia for architecture (1 full day is enough to see it in all its extraterrestrial glory - I've been twice though), Belo Horizonte for a city with really nice vibes and some pretty colonial towns nearby (Ouro Preto)
Everything outside Rio and SP is pretty much half price of RJ/SP - from boys/saunas to caipirinhas/carne
 

You could keep adding to this list. Brasil has continental size and diversity, there are many cities and places that worth the experience. 

Iguaçu is also an easy side trip. Probably not much sexual fun around there, but good sightseeing.

Floripa is another great place to visit during an extended time in Brazil. Doesn't seem like there's much of a sauna scene, but many hot surfer-type guys around the beaches.

I've heard Fortaleza is home to some hidden GP talent.
Weather is a big thing for me hence why I want to go in September instead of June/July etc even if means delaying pleasure for a month or two. Plus the heat and humidity seem to increase everyone's libido!
I will test the waters with 4 weeks first I think. I'll have to pace myself as last time I was sexually exhausted and ready to head home after 2 weeks even though I loved it.

Good for you. I started off with ten-day visits, soon increased to three weeks, and now up to seven or eight weeks twice year. My suggestions:

You said "possibly" even five weeks, but probably better to test yourself with four weeks first.
Good idea to visit varied destinations, but not so many that you have too many flights — perhaps 8 days in SP, 8 days in Rio, a week in Salvador, and 5 days in Fortaleza. I'd make it easy going, not complicated. 
For convenience of course use CGH in SP and SDU in Rio as much as possible.  ✈️ 

Not everybody cares, but I like to optimize the weather. Belo Horizonte can unleash heavy rain 24/7 in December. I like to use this site below, which has lots of comparative charts for whatever cities you are considering. September can be a pretty good sweet spot.

A trip to the Amazonas, Pantanal or on the Estrada Real to Diamantina takes time. 
You could be busy with sightseeing, nature, beach and sauna.

I think most of the top talent has moved online or even abroad. I've had a few GPs ask me about starting life from scratch in the west due to Brasil's tough conditions.
Garotocom and only fans are where the best guys are at right now.
