n an interview with the New York Times Adam Liptak, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg offered a grim assessment of the Court where she so often finds herself leading a four justice dissent the Roberts Court is one of the most activist courts in history. As an historic matter, this is a pretty staggering claim. The Supreme Court in 1905 handed down a decision called Lochner v. New York that is now widely taught in American law schools as an example of how judges should never, ever behave. Lochner treated any law improving workplace conditions or helping workers to obtain an adequate wage as constitutionally suspect. And Lochner was hardly an anomalous moment in the Courts history. Thirteen years after Lochner the Supreme Court struck down federal child labor laws in a decision that is also widely taught as an example of inexcusable judicial activism. In 1895, the Supreme Court rendered the country virtually powerless against monopolies and other powerful combinations of corporate power, and then it held an income tax on the wealthiest Americans unconstitutional just a few months later. The Supreme Court has, with rare exception, been a largely malign force in American history. There is, however, one important way in which the Roberts Court is distinguishable from the Courts that decided cases such as Lochner. Laws such as the Sherman Antitrust Act and the first federal ban on child labor arose as lawmakers with struggling with many of the negative side effects of the Industrial Revolution. The birth of the railroad and the dawn of mass production massively improved the American standard of living, but they also enabled monopolists to thrive and they resulted in mass exploitation of the working class. The Supreme Court in this era did not so much tear down established rights as it stood for a status quo that favored capital over labor and the rich over the rest of the nation. The Roberts Court, by contrast, has actively rolled back existing laws protecting workers, women and people of color. The Nineteenth Century Supreme Court blocked Americas first meaningful efforts at racial equality, but the Roberts Court stole from minority voters rights that they had enjoyed for decades. The Lochner Court strangled basic protections for workers in their crib, but the Roberts Court takes fully matured protections for workers and carves them up a piece at a time. And, while Lochner Era courts acted out in the open, undermining human rights in published opinions. the Roberts Court pushes an alternative, corporate-run arbitration system that operates largely in secret. This Bar is located on Patpong 2 just off of Surawong. This is a Bar where you never know what you will find. Could be loaded with Fem Boys or Manly Boys or Tattooed Boys or a mix. The location is right off of Suriwong and next to the night market. It is directly next door to the pink lady bar called Pink Panther. Drink prices also vary according to the day and time of night and you can tell them in advance what you are willing to pay and negotiate with them. Just make sure if they agree to 200 baht then it is also for any boy drinks also. Let us know what you have experienced at this Bar! Address: Patpong Soi 2, Bangkok, Thailand open Hour: 7pm to 3am to 4am Google coordinate: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=13.729789,100.531894&hl=en&z=16

BE High This GoGo Bar as been there for a long time, you will find it in the Saphan Kwai area. This is a Bar where you are likely to find a student who seldom works the bars. It is unlikely you will find a great deal of English spoken here. It may be a good idea to go with a friend that speaks Thai. With some imagination you can have a very good night with a thai friend. Please do not forget to tell us about your experience! Address:11/1 Soi Laleewan, Phaholyothin Road, Saphan Kwai, Samsen Nai, Bangkok, 10400 BTS: Saphan Khwai Google coordinate: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=13.789571,100.547032&hl=en&z=16

I hope to goodness we don't get involved in this again! By again, I mean anywhere. I am so tired of spending money on helping other countries when our own is a disaster. That does mean I can't sympathize with those being oppressed in foreign lands. It means that at some point, enough has to be enough.

Traveling soon: How is 5,000 points a night for some great hotels
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in The Beer Bar
I have never had a family member live in a city with a big hotel. It is Holiday Inn Express or Residence Inn. I like both a lot! -
Uncle Si on the show does not go anywhere without 1 gallon of tea. You will also see his Tupperware glass with him every show. I am not saying much other than, my mother had the same philosophy and I still have the Tupperware she bought me for my first apartment. BTW: I love them drinking out of the Mason jars as well. Shit, is this my family I am watching on TV?

Lucky, I love Holiday Inn Express. I stayed at them last year over 100 nights. LOL I am still with Intercon and Marriott. But, my Intercon points are now over 1 million and I have to use them sometime! -
Listen guys, get your minds out of the gutter, don't say those nasty things in front of hitoallusa. You know he is the one to be topped on the Empire State building. Woops. Did I say out out loud? Sorry my dear!

My dear, if you are worried about this, I suggest that you keep looking until you find a much more mentally stable individual. My number in Thailand? I'll give it to you, but you won't get upset if one of the boys answer will you? I know you like the monogamy thing!
-
Thailand! They have a lovely Buddhist Bonding Ceremony. Then, fly to Amsterdam and get it legit overlooking a canal. Lastly, take your groom and head to NYC and on top of the Empire State Building! 3 weddings. 3 continents. @unforgetable!

While the state has no law for or against the marriages of same sex couples, a judge has issues an order to being issuing marriage licenses. This has already started. Naturally, a group of Republican's have started to try to get an injunction to stop the licenses from being issued. It will be interesting to see the outcome of these rulings. http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/more-couples-from-around-the-state-getting-nm-same-sex-marriage-licenses/2013/08/22/92748978-0b89-11e3-89fe-abb4a5067014_story.html

Honey boo boo is high ended sophistication compared to these rednecks. And, while many will see it and think these things never happen, I went frog gigging many a nights, had squirrel for dinner and even had a PiTukchduking. Pig cooked with Turkey inside pig, chicken inside turkey and duck inside it all. The show is pretty funny and starting with Season 1 is the only way to go.

The Fact that you brought them up means you love that fight scene. Thus, I deduce that you would LOVE Duck Dynasty!

I do not see an issue with this at all. I know that is not the "liberal" stance as they say it disenfranchises blacks and the poor. But, an ID card should be had by all over 16 and it should be required to have and hold. IMHO Sorry, if I said something wrong here guys. I just don't see the issue with it. But, when you lump this issue with other restrictions like less voting hours, etc. I do see the issue.

OK guys. Since this thread, I have now watched 2 full season of this show. Over the top? yes Caricature? yes Scripted? yes But, in the end, I laugh over and over. I think the show is funny and the characters are great. I esp. love Uncle Si. I know this is made for TV shit. But, I still have really enjoyed it. Thanks Expat for bringing this up. I know you may have expected me to say that it was stupid. LOL So, I will say that. It is stupid. But, damn, it is also funny as hell. Happy. Happy. Happy.

Love my Teen Wolf boys! I don't think there is a guy on that show that I would not bed over and pick up my soap in the shower. (50 or 60 times if they didn't get the message)
