Amazing Thailand: 25 percent of worldwide HDD production,
bkkguy replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
thanks for the compliment - I didn't think you cared and if you are a "Sound of Music" fan Captain von Trapp has the ultimate comeback for you. tolerance has never been one of my strong points - and I am sure Michael and most regulars here know that very well - but it always amazes me that so many people in forums are happy to waffle on about things they seem to know nothing about then get offended and defensive when they get called on it! I don't post here because I want people to like me or my attitude - and the attitude tends to get worse as the waffling gets worse - I post here to give useful alternative opinions when people are posting crap, and I will leave it to others to decide for themselves how useful this is even after deducting brownie points for attitude! bkkguy -

apart from the fact that it cost more what was the most significant difference between the "cloud server" and a more traditional hosting service? how exactly will it "deliver higher speeds to the world" - and if you can't explain that then your clients are being gypped funny, I was almost knocked out by the smell of Apple-flavoured Kool-Aid when I opened your post :-) bkkguy -

yes - how silly of me, it is just so obvious when you drink enough of the kool-aid! Firewire immediately became an industry standard after Apple backed it and Thunderbolt is poised to be just as successful... and Apple's decision to release recent IOS update disks in no way invalidates their stance that optical drives are dead... and obviously iCloud is going to be the ant's pants and any attempt to point out what a disaster MobileMe was (and continues to be if you can't afford to throw away perfectly usable hardware) is just pettyness... and many small and large organisations have offered "cloud" solutions long before Apple but it still remains to be seen if they can manage to "redefine" this market... and given the comments in Job's biography about having "cracked" the smart TV UI problem it will be interesting to see what Apple comes up with in the next few months because the current Apple TV product is just a joke... but do send me some Kool-aid - I promise to drinks it so I can believe that "Apple is THE innovator" and perhaps after drinking it I can understand why Apple feels so threatened by Samsung that they think the only way to compete is in the courts rather than in the market! a few easter egg clever responses and everyone is impressed - have a look at Iris, some Android programmers put it together in a few hours if you are in the USA some of the responses are actually useful, but this is a Thai forum so how useful is Siri here? bkkguy -
From where I stay in Surawong I am still not too worried about having to wade knee deep through flood waters but am more concerned about the "Mother Hubbard" effect - the percentage of empty shelves at 7-11's and supermarkets in the area because of "distribution" problems is increasing daily and four chain restaurants in Silom Complex are already closed for the same reason, and doubling the amount of sandbags on the street is not going to help this! bkkguy

and the cost per MB for an SSD is currently what? and for had disk technology? and how much has the relative difference between these changed in the past few years? and how much will it change in the next few years? and how many DNLA media servers that your devices connect to have added hard disks to their offerings in the last few years compared to how many have added SSD options? hard drives are already "dirt cheap" and while I don't think anyone expects people to want to add a multi-platter 2" or 3.5" hard disk to their iPhone or iPad I don't see anyone in the industry predicting the demise of the hard disk any time soon - indeed even if enough consumers or businesses get seduced into "cloud storage" I don't see cloud storage providers using SSD any time soon! bkkguy -
you'd better drink lots of water because we aren't going to be able to read up on the delights of chakran unless you have a "p" on that link! bkkguy

that may rule out Moses then - all of his examples, including the lookmespa site, are all based on other people's templates, and he can perhaps tell us if he designed the cute bear images himself or sourced them elsewhere - not that I think that is a bad thing (provided there are no copyright and license issues), but originality of all elements seems to be an issue for you! I would be surprised if half of the small massage or bar venues in Bangkok or Pattaya will manage to make a $4,000 profit this year let alone have a marketing budget that would include this expenditure just for a web site - if I was them I would definately be taking up Moses' free offer! though if my budget extended to the few extra $ it would take to register a domain I would do it, and I would also try to get hosting that did not require advertising on my site or perhaps you are referring to a different audience than Moses is targeting in this thread? when you are wanking with both hands about the complexities of SEO and web presence requirements for businesses it is easy to forget target audiences! bkkguy

I resemble that remark! as a typical fat ugly old falung I find the good bodies that keep me hard aren't hard to keep - just expensive! bkkguy

that rules out a house and a car for most people but OK I assume you meant "you didn't buy something on credit card you couldn't afford to pay for (immediately)" but even that I think is extreme, and not the best alternative to be offering to people it is like saying "don't drink alcohol" or "don't gamble" - most people manage to do some impulse buys, holidays, unexpected expenses, etc on credit card and spread it over a few months without racking up huge interest bills or going bankrupt, the same way most people drink socially or have the occasional bet without it destroying their lives and their families problem gamblers, problem drinkers and problem credit abusers need help but abstinence is not the only alternative - adn don't get me started on abstinence and AIDS prevention! bkkguy

"hypothetical claim", "evidence" - I don't see anything in either article suggesting the Syrian was homophobic, but perhaps you can enlighten me The Pattaya press is full of articles about gay tourists and expats being attacked, robbed, killed, etc by Thais - how are you calculating your "average"? go back and re-read the NZ Herald and Nation articles again and my suggested Syrian press story and then convince me that your original post to this thread was not based on prejudices confirmed by the NZ Herald article! and the coverage of this - and the visitor comments - are a classic study! http://www.pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/ ... n-pattaya/ http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/2011 ... ss-murder/ bkkguy

I will have to check it out - both for the food and the office worker eye candy! the best buffet I have had recently is at Grand Hyatt Erawan - 800 Baht ++ for lunch and 800 (or maybe 900) Baht ++ for free pour beer, sparkling, red and white wine, slightly higher for dinner bkkguy

according to the latest update from Balcony Golffy and the 3 members of his/her Issan dancing troupe were double booked for the night so a new group with 2 singers and 4 dancers has been booked, but no pics provided get on their mailing list! bkkguy

if you were a company (not necessarily a hospital, but a company) that made most of its profits from treating obesity, diabeties, heart disease, etc, what food outlets would you allow in highly visible locations in your lobby? Mamma's low fat low sugar veggie stir-fry franchise or McDonalds? bkkguy

Of course if the "alleged" murderer's name was Somchai from Udon rather than Mohamad from Syria then it would not have been "homophobic rhetoric from their society", it would have been the hapless falung leaving temptation in the way of a poor naive socially oppressed Thai. And perhaps if Somchai had been converted by a far right US preacher he would have been twice as justified ... If a Syrian newspaper reported on this event saying the NZ man was a sexual predator preying on innocent Syrian young men you would probably dismiss this out of hand as biased but you seem to blindly accept the totally unsupported accusation by a "friend" of the NZ man in the NZ press that the Syrian was a "Talented Mr Ripley-type figure who preyed on gay tourists" bkkguy

the version in the Nation paints a somewhat different picture from that in the New Zealand Herald Killer of NZ croquet chief nabbed I am sure both Yeatman's and Ryad's version of events are constructed to serve their own purpose and both should be taken with a grain of salt, and both newspapers obviously have their own agendas as well and there is not a lot of "impartial" "factual" reporting at this level - obviously becuase that does not sell many newspapers! bkkguy

of course the visitors from Russia are not interested in massage, they are just looking for forms and vulnerabilities to abuse and exploit - blogspot and wordpress sites are popular and easy targets! and the graph shows pageviews but you talk about visitors - how do you define a "visitor"? in the "lies, damn lies, and (web) statistics" world this is a much abused term that would have Disraeli turning in his grave! bkkguy

I've seen Beautiful Thing but don't remember the mother that well, will have to watch it again but give me a good Jewish mother any day - Anne Bancroft as Ma Beckoff in Torch Song Trilogy! bkkguy

today is Mother's Day in Thailand and the Bangkok Post in the Life section had a special feature on three films dedicated to "brave mothers" - their #1 choice was Rak Haeng Siam. as much as I love the film and think Sinjai Plengpanich is a great actress and plays a great role, the role she plays is a middle class teacher from a Catholic family with an alcoholic husband, a disappearing daughter and a possibly gay son! is this the new archetypal Thai mum? the scene in the movie where they are decorating the Christmas tree and Tong (Mario) puts the "boy" doll on the tree rather than the "girl" doll and the mother (Sinjai) sighs then smiles bravely is a classic, and in some ways classically "Thai" - but are there no less unambiguous images of Thai motherhood for the Bangkok Post to choose? most falung I talk to seem to think this is a "gay positive" movie, but to me the mother is very anti-gay - she tells the potential boyfriend that one day he will understand that starting a family is more important - and she triumphs in the end, and it gives Thais the ultimate cop-out - the family is Catholic not Buddhist, real Thais would accept this relationship, but would they? in the end who cares, Mario is so cute - see his photo spread this month in Attitude! much better than the one last year in 2 Magazine! bkkguy

yes I read it, both parts - did you? because it does not really support your comments that I was responding to! some points on the article - it is written by a company that sells anti-malware software and while this is a fairly balanced technical article, their sales objectives are helped by anything that creates a perception in the general consumer's mind that anti-malware software is a universal panacea for all these types of problems, and their sales objectives are helped even more by posters like you spreading FUD (fear uncertainty doubt) with your posts above screaming "you will be compromised" - as it states in the introduction the article specifically applies to IE 6 and 7 and Firefox 1.5 and 2.0. These are not current versions of these browsers. Anyone still running these versions without other security practices in place has significantly more important issues to deal with than whether they should be storing their passwords in the browser! - the article touches on but does not really address issues such as the "value" of the passwords you are trying to protect v's the convenience of browser stored passwords, and other ways of circumventing the attack vectors they cover in the article eg using NoScript in Firefox - again they are trying to sell their software solution - the conclusion in the article is "Risk of subversion and compromise to the password storage mechanisms of web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox need further evaluation. Any system that controls the keys to the kingdom or many kingdoms should be further scrutinized. Users need to become more aware of the risks and benefits of using password management systems." given the age of this article and the browser versions it references do you have any more recent and relevent articles to suggest? your quote box does not include any of my text so I don't know exactly which of my comments you are responding to, but if this is the best reponse you can manage to all of the points I raised above I will leave you to keep spreading your FUD! even without the benefit of a car :-) bkkguy

if you don't use the same password for multiple sites then this is not an issue, if you do then changing passords regularly is the wrong solution to the problem! up to you, I only offered then link as a resource that may help some people make their own more informed decision about managing their passwords bkkguy

as I said I would love to see some specific examples of viruses and trojans that have been able to read and compromise a browser's database of stored passwords while malware on your PC may be able to capture form data at the time the form is submitted, I fail to see how this has anything to do with allowing the browser to store passwords again I fail to see how this has anything to do with allowing the browser to store passwords you don't seem to understand how TrueCrypt does partition or disk encryption, and in the case we are talking about here where an attacker has physical access to your PC then propery implimented disk-based encryption is going to give you much better protection than a simple third-party password database. your original comment that I queried was "if you are using ANY browser or FTP-client to store passes and logins - then it is just a question of time when it will be compromised..." there are a number of issues associated with allowing the browser to store passwords, and many actions you can take to reasonably minimise risk depending on the passwords you are trying to protect, but your response addresses none of this - if you want to keep to vague security generalites then fine, but if you have some support for your original statement then I would love to hear more. wow that must make you feel very secure - do you drive a Hummer SUV? Small Penis Confirmed By Hummer H3 Purchase bkkguy

compromised by remote access? or by someone that gains physical access to your computer? if you are suggesting the former than I would be interested in somes links to cases of this actually being done if you are suggesting the latter then if this happens you have many significant security and privacy issues that are not addressed by just securing your passwords - a much better option is to secure the entire disk with secure encryption, eg using TrueCrypt if you are talking mobile phone or tablet then that is a whole different set of risks an set of options to manage them bkkguy

[cynical comment] No - the only think you can guarantee is that the falung is never in the right, if it is only Thai's involved then the higher status person is always in the right [/cynical comment] bkkguy

interesting, I have the original Gayaxy S and am really happy with it and am not sufficiently tempted by the new model's larger screen and faster processor, but if I could get a quad band model here I might seriously consider it - did you buy the phone here? which shop/vendor? where did you get the specifications from? at COMMART X-Gen today in Bangkok the Galaxy II phones at the True booth were all HSDPA 850/1900/2100 Mhz and at the AIS booth were all HSDPA 900/1900/2100 Mhz according to the booth staff and at a small shop in CentralWorld last weekend I was told they had two models one 850, one 900, but not a quad band 850/900 - but I don't really beleive anything the sales people say here because none of them seem to know anything about their products! and I have not yet seen how to get into the service menu on the Galaxy II and see what frequencies are available or enabled! the staff at the True booth today said the current True Move 850 Mhz 3G plans would continue to be available "long time" and did not know anything about the new Real Move plans but said you would need a TOT SIM to access TOT/CAT 3G network and cannot do voice calls ... the staff at the AIS booth thought there may be some new 3G packages comming "soon" but had no details - obviously their marketing department does not see any value in pre-promotion at a major trade show like COMMART X-Gen ... the staff at the DTAC booth did not even seem to be aware that True was trying to have DTAC decleared an illegal foreign trading entity so I didn't even bother looking at their 3G offerings ... there are obviously more important reasons for living in Thailand than 3G access, so I am off to the explore these tonight! bkkguy
