February 18, 201610 yr I went to the Albury club when it had first opened. I liked it. One of the new owners was a friend of Teddy, who was my friend showing me around Bangkok. I wonder whatever happened to teddy. I now he retired from massage in San Francisco. But, we lost touch with him. Last I heard, he was providing great Thai food at SF events.

Yes, when I think of Gaybutton I think of gently ringing bells and sweet angels singing as they flutter their wings playfully. When people speak his name it is often accompanied by praises and bouquets. His own humble, detailed post above of his kindness and generosity in dealing with the last days of his ex boyfriend's life is really unnecessary because everyone in Pattaya already knows what a good person GB is. February 22, 201610 yr Unless Allen somehow copyrighted what was published online, I don't see any problem with anybody using it for any purpose, especially given the attribution has been given. Under Thai law, copyright vests in the author of an artistic or creative piece (there's a long list under the act) automatically from the date of its publication, throughout the author's life and for another fifty years after his death through his heirs. There is no need for registration as the right is automatic but the author may do so with the Department of Intellectual Property if he so wishes. At a time when our educational institutions are grappling with rampant cheating, abuse of intellectual property and general disrespect for academic integrity, I hope our supposedly more enlightened western cousins wouldn't be so dismissive about copyright.

Surely, it should be A Short History of Commercial Gay Thailand for the history of gay lives in Thailand goes much further and much wider, respectfully, than the writings of Dr Allen Briggs.
February 22, 201610 yr Well. I have hired one of the tour guides from one of the sites on my first visit to Bangkok. He was an exceptional tour guide, translator and organiser. He was not using it as a cover for plying prostitution. He spent long hours during the day showing me many of the tour sites and providing an excellent history. In the evening he took me to the shows and it was great to be able to watch without being pestered by anyone. He spent lots of time trying to find what I was interested in and pointing out boys that might suit me. Good for him and good for you. Tourism is a saturated industry and a tourism degree is one of the easiest to obtain. It is something we try to steer our kids away from but most are drawn by the glamour of meeting "international people" and wanting to show them "our greatest country in the world" (sic) and other insular claptrap that have been drummed into their heads from the time they started school. They don't know how hard it is to book a job - most licensed tour guides are paid on a per job/rotation basis with no fixed monthly income and benefits. Sometimes I wonder how they survive without a side income. However, those with special people skills like the guide you had catering to a niche market, and those with currently in-demand language skills viz Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Arabic and Russian could certainly make a living out of it or while these languages are still fashionable anyway. 10-20 years ago it was Japanese!
February 23, 201610 yr Prakanong, interesting statement about Thai copyright law (which I plead almost total ignorance); however, perhaps you might want provide your apparent learned legal opinion to the following: (1) Does Thai copyright law apply to a website which is owned by a non-Thai and which is hosted outside of Thailand? (2) And, providing you could possibly answer "yes" to both aspects of #1 above, does that same non-Thai somehow have copyright ownership or protection to what other non-Thais write on an internet forum he is hosting?

February 23, 201610 yr Author Oh, and I forgot to mention internet-specific rule: when webmaster does something on site, country of hosting isn't so important - most important what land he stays while doing something on server. For example: porno is forbidden by law in Russia. If I will stay on Moscow ground and send files for publication at site on the server which is located in Berlin where porno is legal, I still will break russian law even when I'm not russian citizen.

No, it is not protected. 3. I have made a full back up of Alen's old site. It took me less than 2 minutes per issue. I'll be posting it here soon. If you want, I give you permission to them take it and use it as neither of us have the right to do that.
