My itinerary started in Vientiane, a charming capital city which I would certainly consider coming back to for a slightly longer look.

 

I found the people endearing and the boys very handsome.

I went to two massage places, picking male masseurs on each occasion.

 

For the first, I was picked up from my hotel and taken to the premises. Things didn't get off to a good start as there seemed to be some confusion about the length of massage I had asked for (2 hours). I was then told I couldn't have that much time. We settled on 90 minutes and even that conveyed a sense of reluctance on behalf of the masseur. I was almost at the point of saying forget it, but hey I suppose something is better than nothing.

The massage was very good, but try what may there was no prospect of him removing any of his clothes or indeed doing anything remotely happy at the end. Strange considering his approach; perhaps just an enterprising use of Grindr.

 

And so onto Luang Prabang, an endearing place. I found a masseur here on.Hornet who offered to come to my hotel. The hotel, however, refused to sanction it (strict regulations about not having anyone other than your spouse in the room). The guy then offered to take me to his house. I had some concerns about this, not least when we seemed to be going to a fairly deserted place.on his motorcy. But it turned out to be fine security wise if not massage wise. We both ended happily, but I was struck at how tame and reserved the Laos people are.

 

It's a fantastic country with lots of unusual things to see, but better stick to Thailand and Cambodia for fun of the.sleazier side.
