Pattaya tourism officials are pitching a travel scheme similar to Phuket’s “Sandbox” where the mandatory 14 day quarantine is waived for foreign tourists who are vaccinated against Covid-19. The government plans to reopen Chon Buri to tourists in October, but tourism officials are hoping the start the proposed “Pattaya Move On” travel scheme in August.

Under the proposed “Pattaya Move On” idea, vaccinated foreign tourists entering Chon Buri from overseas would spend the first 3 days of their stay isolated at a hotel before travelling in the Sattahip and Banglamung districts, which include Pattaya. After 14 days in the province, the tourists would be able to travel throughout Thailand.

The Sattahip and Banglamung districts would need to reach herd immunity to open up to international tourists. To cover 450,000 residents in those districts, the province needs 900,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Acting chair of the Chonburi Tourism Industry Council, Thanet Supornsahatrangsi, says tourism operators will propose the travel scheme to the Tourism and Sports Minister and the National Security Council Secretary General next week.

Is phuket sandbox also include 3 days isolation in hotel? Why are they keep adding restriction?

Vaccine available in Pattaya?? Really??

Only the Chinese vaccine is available in Pattaya but many residents prefer not to take it and wait for other options in the future.

Sadly there is no vaccine available to farang in Pattaya. The ThailandIntervac site that was supposed to be for farang to register for the vaccine has been closed down, after leaking people's personal information. I have registered with three hospitals who all tell me that they don't expect to have any vaccine until October at best. If we won't even get the first dose until October then there should be no opening of borders as far as I am concerned.  

I think theyll be opening as long as they reach 70%. I guess farang will be in the 30% who will have to wait for the vaccine.

I gather your pension is paid regularly every month which can't be said about those millions formerly employed in hospitality, retail  and entertainment industries 

I appreciate Thailand might be aiming for 70% vaccinations only in specific provinces to allow reopening.    However, do compare with other countries, many of which signed vaccine supply contracts last year -see graph.     None of the ones on this graph have got to 70% of the total population yet, including some which have been vaccinating for over 6 months. 

When they do make a decision on tourist reopening, I doubt they will consider the vaccination status of expats.   They will look at the overall situation.
