I get the feeling there are more Japanese walking around Bangkok than there are in Tokyo.

You can go through an entire day and hardly hear any Japanese being spoken around you. It's all Chinese.

What was this event all about? Promoting Japan?

I think it’s an annual event in appreciation of their patronage of the soi. Very well attended.

They refer to the Japanese customers as 555, pronounced 'hahaha'.

It stands for 5 minutes, 5 inches, 5000 yen.

I fared better there when I was called ' sexy grandpa", not sure I should be thrilled though
