In a few hours I will be boarding (hopefully) my first flight in my way to Medellin. I will stay there until December 15th, when I will be returning to Argentina to my family and Ancient friends.

I will be staying in a complex in Ciudad del Rio, when I booked I had not researched the hood, I just liked it because it was one block away from the MOM and it was an area I enjoyed in a previous visit. Recently, I learned that is a just developed new fancy neighborhood with lots of new upscale residencies, bars, coffee shops and restaurants. The area was cute when I walked through it a few years ago, but it was yet not as developed as I learned it is now.

It is very close to El Poblado, some reports frame ir as "the gate" to Provenza and El Poblado. In my previous visit I stayed in less gentrified areas in Laureles, so I am very curious although I am certain I will miss the more authentic local experience provided by Laureles up to a few years ago.

If you have any suggestions about events or places to visit these next 40 days, please feel free to share in this thread. Just remember that I am not in a frenzy short trip trying to fuck every Colombian hottie available, but instead I am slow traveling on a very low budget, as my condo in DC is still in the market.

As usual, I will do my best to report my (mis)adventures.

Buen viaje parcero.  Will ask around what is currently happening. The famous alumbrados  which are very nearby to your location should  light up the week of Noche de  la velitas, the theme this year is natural wonders of Colombia, no idea if that includes neas or guapitos. Que la pases súper!

There is a Bienal de Arte, also.

I am impressed at Ciuidad del Rio. Not the kind of neighborhood I like, but I will enjoy it. It is remarkable the amount of construction that took place since my previous visit, and it is still going on. Too upscale everything for me.

When I went through immigration before leaving Brazil, the agent detected that I had overstayed my 3 months visa by 5 days. He went to his supervisor and came back with a form for me to request an extension. He also warned me that I had exceeded my limit for this year and should not return until 2026. Finally, he warned me that the next time I visit I will have to pay a 100R penalty. The entire interaction was kind and professional, although I failed to get a smile from the guy. He was smoking hot and spoke to me in an acceptable Spanish. I do not remember whether in my previous trips I had to go through immigrations in my way out of Brazil, I do not think so.

I love the priority laws for flights in Brazil. In my two Brazilian boardings I was the first passenger to walk into the plain. Once in Bogotá, I lost that privilege. Immigrations in Bogotá was crazy. I think there were at least 200 people before me, and I had to stay in the line for more than 90 minutes. Once I got to the boot everything was fast, they only made me the routine questions. One more thing worse than in Brazil: the security check ins. I had flown through the US, Brazil and Argentina without issues, but in Colombia they confiscated my little scissors, they only let me keep one with rounded tips. When I told the officer, he made a comment about how in more dangerous countries they have to be more careful, and advised me to check my luggage the next time.

My flight between Recife and SP was with Gol. Great service, even when it was a 3 hours flight we got a little snack and a drink. SP to Bogotá and Bog to Medellín were Avianca. They did not give us anything. During the flight from SP to Bog (over 6 hours), they would sell you coffee, a snack, or a drink. When the cart passed by my seat I asked them for a glass of water to take my Levo, they told me that I had to go to the tale to pick up my water. Avianca sucks, at least in Economy class.

My airbnb is great, but the neighborhood is still in development and during the day the construction work is quite loud. The unit is roomy and with lots of natural light, but as all the building are 20 stores, you do not have a view. Everything looks new, even the kitchen supplies are almost as coming direct from their original package. What I like the most is the hot water. For the first time in South America out of Argentina, I have scalding hot water in all of the faucets.

I arrived so tired yesterday that I laid down to take a short nap and got up at 9pm. I had to meet a deadline related to my free lance duties, so I did not go out. I got up this morning very early to do my daily routine. I was ready to go out at 9am and took my first long walk. I usually use my first days to explore my Airbnb's neighborhood. I understand why Ciudad del Rio was placed amongst the most trendy neighborhoods in the world.

The transformation in these three years since my previous visit is astonishing. It feels like being in Union Market in DC or Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires. The difference is that in those cities regulations are stricter and you cannot build these huge towers. All the new building are 20 stores or more, and the ground level is taken by first international and local brands. There was a 15 people line to order at Cafe Pergamino, and all the places were similarly crowded. I hope this happens only on weekends. I wanted to go to the MOM, but I was afraid of the crowds and instead I enjoyed, after my walk, a coffee at Ganso y Castor, a fancy bistro next to the MOM, with a nice outdoor patio.

Fortunately, you only need to walk a few blocks and you are back to Colombia. My first impression was not good, but after my walk I saw that I can easily enjoy the best of both worlds. If I am in a fancy mood, I stay in Ciudad del Rio. If I am in need of the more authentic Colombian experience, I just have to walk 4 blocks and the landscape changes radically. This is excellent for travelers with a more cosmopolitan profile like myself. If you travel to stay in areas that look, feel, and actually are like a developed world upscale hoods, I definitely recommend Ciudad del Rio to you.

Soon after noon I was back to my base to catch up with some things. I want to be rested and smell well for tonight, I will hit the bars in El Poblado.

I will eventually try the local escorts, including the 2 or 3 I like from Fercho's extensive catalogue, but first I will give it a try to non transaccional sex. My apps have been very active. A few hits are escorts that introduced themselves as such immediately. An example.

IMG_8259-2.thumb.PNG.aa377603a8fb573407adfe8e500f9c8c.PNG

I would not pay those prices. I will not pay anything above 150Col, considering that Fercho costs 190 with hotel included. Most of the hits are more ambiguos, and I am chatting with three that are clearly not escorts. I may try it during this first week and then start to check the pros.

Something I am not going to miss from Recife: the street and the apps are full of hot men. During my walk today I was bombarded by inspiring pedestrians and public workers. Something I am already missing from Brazil: casual attires. Colombians, as Argenineans, are high maintenance compared to Brazilians from the Litoral. I saw very little short pants today (only people excersizing or gringos). While in Brazil I only wore long pants to fly in between cities, I am afraid I am getting into my jeans to go out tonight. And let's not talk about sandals or flip flops. I did not see one today, and yesterday when I walked to the supermarket wearing my crocs, I felt like someone from another planet.

When I arrived to Medellín I still had some doubts about relocating in Rio or here. Those doubts are already cleared out.

Airbnb in any country outside the US, this is always a risk, even in new buildings, they are always renovating and since the buildings are all cement, bang, bang, bang...wtf.

Raise your limit to 200k, even though my range has been lower, there are some worth 200k and will surprise you at how good they are, but yeah, I hang around the 100-150k range and have not been disappointed.

If the guy is really mouth watering I may raise my limit, but I think 150K is a very good price in this market, and above that is Gringo price. But eh, I am a little bit Gringo.

I know a lot of people think so, but they are just comfy. Once living in Brazil, I will consider switching to Havaianas, but I love to be free of closed shoes.

I met him in Bogotá, and he is great. The only thing that may change my mind at this point is meeting the boy of my dreams. I dream about smelling well, but not about boys, I like my freedom.

Talking about boys, I got my first date, from Grindr. He did not ask for my age, but he liked my pictures, and even my nudes are not photoshopped. This is his picture that made my mind:

IMG_8261-2.thumb.jpg.c7728a1c881a4ac0aad00f416d8c56f8.jpg

He is 27 years old and the rest of him is almost as hot as his dick. He is not an escort, and he likes smoking weed. I have not smoked since I left Salvador, I would love to get some premium Colombian stuff. We chatted for a while and we seem to be a good match. The definitive test will be tonight. We are meeting at a bar in El Poblado. Pray to Venus and make an offering to Oxum on my behalf.

But the good thing about meeting at a bar, is that if chemistry does not work I am free to continue with the hunting. He is texting me right now asking me what I am doing. I do not like that.

Mathias is part of the elite circuit in Medallo, works as a trainer at the Bodytech on Avenida Colombia, also has a smoking hot boyfriend.  He preys on foreigners who don't know better that those prices are insane.

¡Chanclas fuera de la casa! It really is the absolute worst and culturally offensive, the footwear version of wearing your dressing robe to the corner store.

You will greatly enjoy the newest waiter at Donde Aquellos with the curly hair and the phattest ass you will lay eyes on this year.

Also if your new friend is named Miguel Angel, my recommendation is to stay away. He has a tattoo where his hand is in that photo. Just my two cents.

My fucking gosh. Is there anyone you do not know in Colombia? His name is Miguel, but he sen me other pictures and I do not see any tattoos anywhere in his body. And how a heck did you know that our date was in Donde Aquellos? You are a Gringo Witch.

By the way, I will list the guys from Mileroticos I am interested in. I am sure you already fucked all of them:

A quick scan and nope, not a one. I recognize a couple from Grindr since I stay in Belén where they are located. But I have zero notes here.

But seeing "pasarla una chimba" sure takes me back to Medellîn.

As I also have a place in a Medellin suburb, can I make a couple of suggestions.

Do try Alambique restaurant in Poblado. Its excellent but you do need to book.

The new waiter that macdaddi mentioned at Donde Aquellos really does have a wonderful phat ass

Cafe Manchuria on Calle8 does really good coffee and hot chocolate.

Have an evening out in Sabaneta. Especially a Friday its buzzing.

Finally, the area around Manila is up and coming, and has some really nice smaller restaurants and cafes.

Enjoy Medellin and it's hot guys

Excellent suggestions. There is an Argentinian steak house in Manila named Malevo (Cra. 43E #11A - 20) that is really good, although the prices keep rising. You will hear the accent of the waiters - the owner is from Argentina and most of the staff are friends and family who come to work and get to  know Medellín.

And there is a couple of ex-New Yorkers that have opened Otro Bagel  (Cra. 43F #12-27) that serves decent NY-style bagels with all the schmear (cream cheese), lox and capers you can manage.

Everyone loves Argentine restaurants abroad, but being an Argentine I am most times disappointed. I will give it a try if I happen to be around. I did try the one in Laureles and although the food was not terrible it was not authentic at all.

Even if you don't want a full steak dinner, they have an excellent selection of Argentinian wines, beyond the usual labels of Malbecs. I will stop in for wine and tapas on the patio, it is on the busiest pedestrian street in Manila so excellent people watching.

Following up on the soap opera, the boy that showed up had some similarities with the pictures he had shared, but I am 90% certain the pictures were not his.

@macdaddi, I am wondering whether or not he actually is your guy. His name is Miguel Angel. He was extremely speedy, would go to the restroom every 30 minutos and his nose would be always running. I do like coke and asked where he liked it (I did not ask whether he was sniffing in the restroom) but although he said he did, he did not invite me. Unforgivable. He would not stop talking. His introduction included a story about how he was the only child of millionaire parents (his words) who would spoil and give him everything he wanted. Later on, when I asked him who was the child in one of the pictures he shared, he told me it was his niece, his sister's daughter. I told him "were you not the only child", and he responded that he actually had two siblings who were adopted. He started to talk about how he also suspected he himself was adopted.

He told me he was very familiar with Medellin's night but he did not know where Donde Aquellos and Bar Chiquita were located. I had to share my location with him to help him find DA, and then he got lost in our way to BCh and I had to redirect our walk. He asked me countless times whether or not I liked him, even after I told him that kind of question showed insecurity and I would prefer him to observe our physical language. At the beginning I was willing to go ahead as he was a cute boy (not hot), but by the end of our conversation in DA I was sick of him.

Of course, I was paying all the tabs, despite his millionaire parents. When we arrived at BCh, he clearly stepped back from the tickets boot to let me pay for his entry. Inside the bar, it was clear that he had never been there before or had been very few times as he was completely unfamiliar with the layout. Soon, he insinuated that he wanted a drink. I suggested him to go and get his own, and he went for a beer. After that, I devoted myself to flirt (unsuccessfully) with the many hotties in there and to respond to the many hits I was getting in Grindr and Scruff, but my T-Mobile roaming service sucked and I could not download the photos. I left without even trying to find him, as he never returned (fortunately) to me after he went for his beer.

Once back home, he texted to my WhatsApp calling me "Cariño". I blocked him, and I paid for roaming service to my Argentine's Claro number, much better service than T-Mobile.

The new bartender at DA is cute, but I missed the Black guy who was my waiter three years ago.

While the back end story is different this time, it sounds like this one has already reached its logical conclusion. Most of that sounds very familiar to me, so you prolly dodged a bullet, although if he sticks to his standard plan, you are about to get thousands of text messages until you hit the block button.

Not knowing El Poblado does not really surprise me, the Miguel I met preferred Provenza (shocking, I know) and was much more comfortable closer to home in Manrique where he lives.

If the same guy, you know that he is 100% paisa certified so using cariño, corazón, querido, mi rey, or mor really isn't that unusual, even with someone he has just met. Flirting is the sport of choice in Medellín, so I would not read too much into it.

I blocked him last night! He told me he was living in Cali, going to College to study Architecture. Currently he was on vacation visiting his millionaire parents in Medellin. Anyway, this story is over.

If I have this right technically, this wording sounds off. It’s a rolling migratory year reset early August 2026, if counting back 95 days from your recent departure. Not a calendar year reset in which your next 90 days entry privilege can commence this January, or Easter, or Sampa Pride, etc. If you return next summer also be prepared to pay a fine of 100 reais for each of the 5 overstay days unless perhaps they kindly predetermined the lesser amount and it’s recorded in your file.
