I've never been but have wanted to go visit and have thought about possibly moving there because the extreme heat in Merida Spring/summer is ridiculous.

I was in some expat groups for there and a bunch of gringos moved there from here and like it, although my friends in Mexico City say I'd be too bored there.

It has the highest average wage in Mexico because a lot of multi-nationals have their offices there, not in CDMX like you might think.

Laid out similar to Merida, a historical centro and a newer, more modern area to the north, I've also heard that the narcos have been moving in all around the city and there is speculation that soon, they will be inside the city as well... who knows.

I have a friend in California that's from Durango, a place you don't hear much about, even in Mexico. I've played map games with my local friends and none have a clue to where Durango is 😄

If you like Mexico, I think you'd like Queretaro. I honestly had never heard of it and Chat GPT recommended it based on the criteria I thought made Reggio Calabria such a good fit for me. I'm putting this up there with my top five trips anywhere. I thought it rivaled the beauty of places I'd visited in Italy without the crowds, smoking, exhaust fumes and unfriendly attitudes of tourist-weary locals. I met so many nice people, several who had moved from Mexico City. People were friendly, inquisitive and complimented my Spanish, even though it was far from perfect :D The food scene was quite international - I had great regional Mexican food as well as some local Queretano cuisine, and I also had Thai, Korean, Italian and Chinese. The weather was very pleasant (I was in Merida one April and I had to stay inside during the day). I never knew what I was going to stumble across - a market, food stalls, a concert on the street, dancing in the plazas (for Valentine's Day). I don't think it would be any less exciting than Merida, though definitely slower paced that CDMX.
