Members Traveler365 Posted 1 hour ago Members Posted 1 hour ago I am planning my October trip to Brazil. I noticed that with my current itinerary I will be passing through Rio on the weekend of October 4th--Election Day. Anyone else have any experience being there during a major election? Some Latin American countries shut down alcohol; sales and close clubs during elections--not sure if Rio does or not. I can delay my arrival by a week if you think things will be largely shut down that weekend--or if the opposite is true--that things are so volatile that its not a good idea to be out. Quote

But I don’t grasp why you specify Rio; you suggest the entire itinerary is Brazil. More importantly, a run off 3 weeks later Oct 25 also a Sunday is certainly within the realm of possibility, extending the evidence that politics are locally front of mind for several weeks. A runoff was required in 2022. I don’t think it’s a tourism dealbreaker, as people there go about their lives apart from that total focus, but consider the latter scenario. If your concern is the first weekend, then it might just as well be the last weekend. Quote
