I just came back from my first trip to Rio. 8 days (or shall I say nites ?) in Heaven ! I will not write about safety in Rio since I commented this subject in another thread. Summarizing, I found Rio to be much safer than I imagined and much safer than it is described everywhere. If I was a bit reluctant to take the metro or to walk alone in the street the very first day, I did that regularly during all the other days without experiencing any problem. Of course obvious precautions have to be taken (be as « local » as possible, no jewels or watches, no showing of large amounts of money,etc.) I went basically to the three main saunas in Rio : Point 202, Club 117 and Meio Mundo. Point 202 is the most upscale of the three : there is a nice lounge, good shows, nice atmosphere and a wide variety of boys. It is certainly the place where there is the highest proportion of whites and light browns (« morenos claros » as they are officially called there). More than 2/3 of the boys are either black or « morenos escuros ». There are all ages, even though most of the guys are around 25 years old. We met there a young lad with green eyes who had just turned 18 a few weeks ago. His friend of 22 was with him, a gorgeous white lad with beautiful blue eyes and a nice body. The shows are based on boys stripping naked and transvestites singing (most of the shows are around 8 or 9 pm). We also attended a live interview of Mr Gay Brazil 2009 (Anderson Soares) who was there in his underwears but who unfortunately did not do any strip. There is also the presentation of the cutest beginners on Tuesday nites. I do not consider the boys to be pushy, but I guess that it is because I speak almost fluent portuguese which helps explaining what I want and what I do not want and to tell the boy if he has some changes to have me as a customer or not. I found the boys very professional once you agree on a rate and a program, I was never cheated and only in one case I was not completely satisfied by the prestation (it was with a boy in Meio Mundo that I met later also in Point 202). All boys are asking for more than 50 Reais : my first nite in Point, I discussed with a first lad who asked ... 150 Reais, then decreased to 100, but did not accept to go lower than 80. Another one asked for 80 and accepted 70, not less. Then I found Rodolpho who accepted 50 which was the limit I tried to reach for the first nite. Excellent time with Rodolpho who even insisted in being fucked. I gave him 60 Reais in total and told him that I planned to meet him again during my stay. The wanking room is also a place to chat and a paradise for the voyeur. Boys come here to harden their cock (sometimes already very hard) by watching to a straight movie and make jokes between them (and sometimes exchange about the punters...). After, they would go to the lounge, still wanking their huge cocks and trying to find a customer... . There are three types of rooms in Point 202 : cabin (20 Reais), Suite (video + air conditionning) = 25 Reais and Master suites (including a large bed and a shower). Rooms can be used during a maximum of 40 minutes. Avoid the 20 Reais cabins and pay the 5 reais additional for having air con ! Some days there is no charge for cabins on Tuesdays and Thursdays .. Generally speaking, there are more guys than in 202. Most of the boys are darker than in Point 202, even though some white or light brown can also be found there. There are two bars, one being also a show room and the other (rather new in the basement, close to lockers) is much smaller and permits talking. The wanking room is much larger than in Point 202 and is certainlly worth a visit by itself ! The sauna is rather small. Same types of suites as in Point 202 and same types of prices (Entrance : 35 Reais – suite : 15 Reais). Tuesdays and Thursday are days when cabins are free (except bank holidays or day before bank holidays). In addition on Thursdays drinks are « liberados » (« liberados » meaning free but is only applicable to cheap drinks sold in bulk (choppe) for which you get free refill, same for beer on the last Friday of the month which is « liberada » from 7 to 8 and from 9 to 10 pm http://www.club117.com.br/home.htm Meio Mundo The names or the other two saunas is easy to understand, since it is simply the number they have on the street. In the case of Meio Mundo, I wondered the origin of the name (which means « Half World » in portuguese). I finally came to the conclusion that it meant a place where many people go. And it is true : there are many people there. Most of the boys are darker here than in Point 202 or Club 117. And there is no need to try to find a wanking room since all boys, practically all days are following a no-towel policy and wanking everywhere ... A kind of voyeur's paradise ... And the boys are eager not only to show you their (normally huge) dicks but to have it in your hand to see how hard, how thick, ... it is. The boys want to make sure that you understand that they are « well dotados » (well hung). It seems to be easier than in the other two clubs to have boys accepting 50 Reais for a session. The cabins are also much cheaper since I think that the older cabins are free and the new ones are either 10 or 15 Reais. I went only once to Meio Mundo because I did not like it as much as the other two saunas, because it can only be reached by taxi, because the suites – at least the ones I went to - are not nice at all and finally because it was the only sauna in which I did not have a perfect experience with a boy (too quick, not really caring, not good rimmer). Rio met all my expectatives and I will certainly go there again next year to discover new places and meet new boys. There is also one point that I did not mention and which is worth mentionning : Sauna boys are, for most of them, expert in the use of their tongue, particularly for rimming. Rimming or sometimes tongue-fucking is sometimes included in the « normal » program or can be considered as an option and charged in addition to the normal program (10 or 20 Reais). In 90 % of the cases, it has been a perfect part of the session. It seems that many escorts worldwide do not accept to rim or charge much more to do so. Not in Brazil ! (rimming is called « chupar o cu »). Finally, I must say that I left Rio with « saudades » (regrets) as they say there and I will try to keep in touch with Anselmo (from Point 202) and Rodolfo (from Club 117) and meet them again next year. I went with them both twice during the stay and both (and others boys also) told me at the end of the second session, knowing that we might never see each other again (vaia com deus = go with God ie May God be with you).

Safety during this trip to Rio After having read what is published on the subject, I must say that I was a bit reluctant to go to Rio thinking that I would have to go from one safe place to another, using only taxis, etc. And the first night I went out alone I took a taxi for a ride of 500 m from Pointe 202 sauna to my hotel in Sigueira Campos ... After I met there a friend who knows very well the place and we started to use the metro, to walk in the streets, etc. I consider the situation to be completely different and it seemed to me to be completely safe to do that, even at night ! Of course this rule can be applied safely only to the streets where there is still activity going on (bars opened, people in the street walking, talking, eating, etc.). And you must look as local as possible ... Of course this does not apply to any visit of favela, but do you really need to visit a favela ? Or course, some basic rules have to applied (copy of part of an article on Rio) : DOs and DONTs Do not even bother packing flashy jewelry, gold, or platinum and diamond-studded watches. If you've got it or like it, this is place to buy them but not the place to flaunt it... Your invaluable valuables belong in the safety box of your hotel room. Carry along a photocopy of your passport, in case you are asked to show some ID. Leave the original together with your driver's license in your safety box (unless you're driving, of course). Do not take along more cash than you need. Most restaurants and stores take plastic, anyway, and you use your debit cards ATM's at selected banks. Stay on the South side of Rio, or at areas specifically recommend by our insider's guide. Avoid dark or isolated areas where you do not see a single soul at night (duhh), such as the Flamengo Park, or the Financial District. Walk with a sense of purpose, as if you knew where you are going to. Looking like a victim is the first step to becoming one. Don't leave your camcorder or state-of-the-art camera swinging from your limp hand, like a shopping bag. Wear shoulder straps. If you bring along expensive cameras, camcorders or laptops, consider an insurance. At the beach, do not leave your expensive camera, passport and/or cash laying around on the sand unattended while you go for a few laps. Do not hide your money in your $200 sneakers either, or you will lose both (that's an old one). Don't take off your watch and leave it laying on the sand behind your back while you are sitting on the sand distracted by the girls or boys that pass by (we've seen saw someone do this...) Do not take regular buses alone (see getting around), taxis cost much less than you expect. If you must take a bus (at your own risk), avoid the window seats and the back rows. Keep the exact change in hand, so you don't have to mess with your wallet (which is obviously in your front pocket). Good Night Cinderella is an old trick that still works. You take a drink offered by a friendly stranger (men or woman). It contains powerful sleeping drugs. You will need help to get back to your hotel room, and this caring and friendly person will gain access to your valuables while you are helpless. Do not leave your drink unattended at bars or discos, for the same reason. Don't take strangers you've just met back to your hotel room - even if you think you are in love! This is the easiest way to become a victim of violence or theft. Say that your hotel does not allow visitors (which may well be true) and go to a honeymoon motel, instead. Everybody knows where to find them. If someone accidentally spills something on you in the street, and offers to clean it say thank you, and walk away. They may have a partner waiting for a chance to pick your wallet while you are distracted with the action. Another no-no: Taking a stranger you have just met back to your hotel room is the easiest way of getting into trouble while in Rio. To avoid putting yourself and your valuables at risk go to a neutral environment instead . There are hotels that charge by the hour, and don't ask any questions when you check-in without any luggage. Locals refer to them generally as motels, and everybody knows where to find them. If you need any excuses, just say that your actual hotel does not allow unregistered guests. It may well be true, anyway. Were we victims or witness of robbery or of tentatives of robbery ? Three or four times : - at the Copacabana Palace Brunch which was charged 200 reais (70 Euros) - at the Churrasqueria the last Saturday where the prices where twice the prices we paid during the week without any indication - in front of Ipanema gay beach where I was having a drink alone and was joined by a cute lad around 25 who, during more than one hour tried to convince me to join him in his wonderful flat above the city, where he had the best views, the best drinks, the best music, etc. playing in various emotional domains : that he was in love with my eyes (asking me 3 times to remove my sun glasses to see my eyes), that he had lost his partner 2 weeks ago and that he could not stay alone in his apartment, etc... I really wonder what would have happened had I joined him ... (or rather I know very well what would have happened). The way I was contacted also is a proof of a good professional : he was sitting at another table and did not come to my table except when he decided to have a swim asking me to watch over his valuables that he put on my table (watch, telephone, shirt) and when he came back from the sea, he asked the permission to sit at the same table ... - in the Metro from the ... Paris airport to the city. I took a non direct train, which I do not like even though at 8 am the risks are limited, but I always sit with a physical contact with my luggage (between the legs, or with a hand on it, ..), which was not the case of another guy sitting very close to me. At a stop, he was asked information by a man, and was busy answering him while another one, very naturally, took the small suitcase he had and left the train when the doors closed. Among the few passengers in the train, included myself, no one noticed anything, but when he guy looked at this luggage, he understood that he had been robbed. At 8.30 am in Paris.... No need to go to Rio... And what would have happened if someone had reacted trying to prevent him to rob the luggage ? I am not sure that the thief would not have ended with some weapons in hand and then ... One last comment about Rio : the taxis are very reliable : all used the meters and no one tried to cheat. The fare to and from the airport was 40 Reais (15 Euros). And indeed the taxis are really cheap in Rio.

There are also other places to visit (not to mention saunas) : - Drakes which is a place where there are harder shows on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, including a very hot "slave in the cage" show on Fridays nites - Villa Mansland which is a gay hotel in the suburbs of Prague where you can find boys, some going to MOnty and Temple, other going only to the Villa Mansland. - Valentino which is a gay disco packed on weekends where you can find boys for less than 1000 kr (60$). I still go regularly to Prague. I like to go to Escape because of the show even though the boys are asking too much and are not available before the show is over ie at least 1 am. The best is to get the phone number of a boy and get in touch with him for the following afternoon. Temple, the new Pinnochio is a place where the number of boy has decreased dramatically in the past and there are often more customers than boys. Be careful with your bill since they tend to compensate their lack of customers by overcharging the bills. Drakes is certainly a good place to go on Friday and Saturday nites if you like more rough shows (eg the "slave in the cage show" on friday nites).
