Has anyone heard any word from Robbie at Le Cafe Royale? I know from reading the board that he returned to Europe some time ago for medical treatment. I've wondered how he's doing. I remember that he was always cordial and accomodating during my stays at Le Cafe. I hope that he is progressing and doing better. Thanks.

((A word of caution for the unwary. Always ask for the collar to be re-inforced otherwise the standard way they are made is as a soft collar which tends to curl up when worn and spoils the appearance of the shirt.))
Thanks for the collar hint, Snowkat. I can see now that's the mistake I made.

I do think that sometimes the boy finds that he also loses face when he won't allow the cousins and other relatives to tag along. I tried to be aware of that while at the same time not being overwhelmed by hordes of family members.
I had wondered about that ....about your BF needing to save face. Thanks for your report, Pete. It is this type of posting I enjoy so much and gain so much from.

Robbie is undergoing a very hard medical treatment in Holland and also have to have a very hard operation. He will be away at least 4 month.
In the meantime Mike Cockroft , former manager of Charlies boys, take care of bar and restaurant. And reservation, bills etc. do Thomas Kalb.
Thank you for posting this, "hajuthai". I, also, had wondered as to the progress of Robbie's health. I certainly wish for him the best.

Yes GB, you are correct. This sort of thing certainly does go on. But the good news is that there is a substantial organized effort to fight it. You might be interested to check the site: http://freetheslaves.net/
I've had the opportunity to hear an address by that organization's founder. Quite impactful. The scope of the problem is rather serious. ---Not a pretty sight.

dont be so negative.............................................damn
Sorry,... I don't see the negativity. I rather enjoy the "first hand" experience opinion posts. Helps me think and plan for the next visit to LOS.

Thanks, pete1969. I'll visit Chiang Mai at year's end, and so was very pleased to read your very good report. I appreciate the info.

I second the recommendation for a spell checker. It could be very useful. Thanks.

I agree. Tour bus sightseeing is just not my thing either. I much prefer spending time with a local who can show me the small interesting sites that are inaccessible to large tour groups, while still having the flexibility to see the larger, more crowded sites on our own schedule and freedom. And, I agree with you about the public transport. I think there may be some advantages there.
I've scheduled some tours with Ben of "Ben's Taxi and Tours" in Chiang Mai during my next visit to LOS and was hoping to find someone similar in Bangkok. I've written Pek and have had a nicely worded reply. He has a cost of 1500 baht for a day of work (plus expenses, of course). I am in hopes that someone who has booked with him will be able to post to recommend his service.
And, thanks for the link. I appreciate it.

I have come across a webpage for a guide named Pek in Bangkok:

I was wondering if anyone has used his services and could recommend him as a guide. Thanks.

Why complain about posts on other boards? That only turns this board into something different.
Exactly ! I gave up on that 'other board' a long time ago, and have high hopes for this board. I, for one, greatly enjoyed Gaybutton's board with all of it's very, very good info for LOS visits. With the closing of that board, I feel that a great resource has been lost. Often what is presented by posters as 'information', turns out to be just that person's general complaints about anything on their mind. Hopefully, this board can be above that.

If you wish, shortly before you come to Thailand send me an E-mail at gaybutton@gmail.com . I will be happy to help you out in any way I can and personally show you around.
kas kas -- Take Gaybutton up on his offer. I did when I first visited Thailand. He was most gracious in helping me --- with suggestions and even with a bit of 'tour guiding'. He's most helpful, especially to a first time visitor. Thanks, GB !
