Obsessed??

Recommended Posts

I am a member of this site as well as the "other” site. Each site has salient features that are useful and helpful (e.g. I like the escort profile listings here). I find both sites to be very valuable tools in my “research” to find the best men to be with in my travels. I have posted reviews on both (probably not as many as I should). I post (not always cogent or “deep”) on the message boards of each when I find a topic of interest. I tune in to each most very day to see what’s happening.

However, it seems to me there is an obsession for some posters here with what goes on over there. I do realize that many who post here are no longer participants there for whatever reasons they may have. I also realize that there is competition between the two sites. But it does become a bit frustrating at times to necessarily sift through the topics and comments about the "other” site here to get to some meat, so to speak.

This site has come a long way in a short time. Perhaps it is time to “bury the hatchet” (or other appropriate cliché) and proceed without rancor to all the interesting subjects that can be discussed.

The “other” site, and now this one, have been very helpful to me in my adventures. I look forward to my continuing education. ^_^

Hey Oliver:

How are you? I can't believe that our paths have failed to cross again in Montreal. Someday, that will have to change again.

Anyway... I agree with everything you say above. However, as you are well aware based on your lifelong experiences, hatchets that need to be buried are usually not rational ones... they tend to have strong emotional overtones.

Is it an obsession? I don't think so, because I certainly don't think about it every second of the day. But am I ready to let sleeping dogs lie? I don't know about that either. lol

Now you have met me, and I think you realize that I really am not a vindictive or malicious person at heart... but if youi will allow me to paste my reply to another poster in another thread here, it kind of explains why it's hard for me just sit quietly.

"As it likely quite obvious from my postings, I have mixed feelings about wishing the other site well. But my reasons are really much more basic and practical....

"On the one hand, I want it to succeed because it is a great resource in an area that I am interested in. There's a lot of info there, and a lot of people contributing daily to that data base. I admit that in spite of my personal (hardheaded) resolve never to post there again... I definitely do "look" there again! lol

"On the other hand, it's been (in my opinion) a very customer unfriendly and disloyal (to the customer) site. And for a site that was truly built on the contributions of the readership, I have a hard time with that.

"So... it's like having a restaurant in your neighborhood that has the GREAT food, but the biggest assholes as management (like they make like they are doing you the hugest favor by giving you a table). Of course you want the restaurant to succeed so you can eat their food, but you also simultaneously hope the management gets theirs.

"Everyone has their own way of dealing with dilemmas like that... but if you are curious what I would do... I usually end up not eating at restaurants like that. And yes, I grumble about it loudly to my friends too!"

I have met you too, and know that you have the personality of a great mediator... so you must know the basic truth that sometimes allowing people to vent (and allowing time to pass) is the best way to dissipate bad feelings. And who knows (though I doubt it)... maybe my crusade about the lack customer empathy there will make the other site more responsive to the needs of the participants who are still active!

So as much as I understand your position, I can only hope that you indulge me mine.

Hi Oliver, We don't know each other other from our online personalities. However, from the posts you've made here and there I can tell you are a sincere man. One willing to share information with other members and look at things in a positive light.

I do disagree with your observation of the posts on this site. I believe MER has no more or less posts about there than there has about here. The difference is perception. There the posts tend to fade away quicker and soon get burried on the next page. Here the discussion is a little lively at times however, when the thread dies it remains newer the top as there aren't as many daily posts here. Therefore, you see that glaring subject line each time you sign on here.

I personally read the other message center cold post there if I wanted but have no desire to do so. But once in a while I will find a post there of interest. I feel most people here will visit both sites for quite some time to come and eventually phase out one or the other from their daily routine.

Anyway, those are just a few of my thoughts on your post.

Oliver,

Like you, there are many sites that I use to find what I want. Currently, I find this site, gaydar.co.uk, gayromeo.com and men4rentnow.com the most useful. I have found guys from all of those sites that I enjoy and have had good experiences with.

When I was in NYC, I found Rentboy always had the freshest faces and used them many times.

When I was in Brazil, I was lucky enough to find some boys who knew all the Brazilian sites and we played with several boys we met online down there.

I don’t think anyone should limit his choices to only one site. I don’t think that you should have to choose between this site and Daddy’s new site. The Hooboy site that I grew to love disappeared and we decided to keep it going. Daddy did the same thing. Both sites want to pick up where Hoo left off. Neither site was blessed with any content, assistance or help from the estate. They refused anyone permission to the domain name, old reviews and message board. They have the right to do this and they have exercised that right.

I have wished Daddy and Deej the best in their joint venture. I do hope that it succeeds. I believe that the success of that site will only increase the success of this site and Vice Versa.

We all share a common background. That is the Hooboy site. Both sites have valuable contributors on them. Both sites will work to promote the world of escorting and this only benefits escorts and clients.

I am glad you are here Oliver and I hope you actively participate. We do appreciate you and all others who are here. We pledge not to take advantage of the trust you have given to us and to work hard to create a site that all can be proud of and that those that really knew Hooboy can say, “he would be proud.”

Oliver --

Thanks so much for voicing what I've been feeling almost every time I come here. I've refrained from posting those feelings mostly because I suspected it might inflame things rather than calm them down. But they needed to be aired, and I'm glad you did so.
