Did Thailand Jump the Shark?

Seems as if we have lots of trips planned by my fellow posters to Brazil and other points south.

However, what about all of you guys who used to hit Thailand once twice sometimes three times a year? Has the novelty worn off? Is it due to some of the recent political issues in the country? Is it simply finances?

Just a wondering Thai boy lover here who really miss all those awesome reports

Absolutely not. Thailand is still my #1 destination . The political turmoil has subsided and at any rate except for a few weeks in Bangkok had no effect.

There is no place like it for Beautiful Twinks. Value for money when compared to some of the other favored destinations here is just incredible. The Hotels are fabulous and reasonable. The apartments make similar priced things in Brazil look like dumps.

The beaches are spectacular, the food cheap and exotic. And soooo SAFE when compared to other destinations.

The big negative is travel time. It is a haul to get there especially in economy . I have never known anyone who has made one visit to Thailand. Once you have been there , you keep finding ways to return.

But as I have stated in other threads there are many wonderful places to visit in this world.. I discovered Colombia a few months ago and a 4 hour flight certainly is appealing when compared to a22 hour flight.

So maybe it will only be 3 trips a year to Thailand instead of 4 or 5.

Thailand is still one of my favorite destinations to visit for all of the same reasons as mentioned in the preceding post, but as Firecat stated oh so succinctly: "...there are many wonderful places to visit in this world." That is where I am right now.

Some day I hope to return to "The Land of Smiles," to all of its culture, its ambience, its "hot but "maturish men" [-^_^] on my part!

I do appreciate having this thread originating. I, too, like to read innumerable threads about Thailand as well as Brasil.

tell ya guys what.. If someone will pay for me a first class airline ticket to Thailand, I will make the trip and report back. I will hopefully be taking another vacation around Oct/Nov. Thailand is definitely on my list (currently it is either Thailand or Prague). The biggest drawback to Thailand for me is the air travel. Depending on the airline/directness, it is around 20 hours or longer from Phoenix. That is a LONG time for my fat ass to sit in a airline seat. Regular economy is definitely out of the question for me for a trip this long.

Premium economy would be an option, as supposedly it isn't too bad.. But come on now..as a still working person, I can only take off 9 days at a time, and to have so much of that time taken up by actual traveling is difficult. Not to mention any possible jetlag after spending that long on a plane. At least if traveling in first class, you can arrive somewhat rested and comfortable so you can hit the ground running.

Good try Lurker.

But this is not a new place that we need someone to explore. So I think you're out of luck.

Take a late flight after work to Seattle and stay in Motel 6,then the trip is only about 16 hours in the seat.

I have not looked but I would guess Prague will be about 15 hours in the seat and when you get there you can freeze your ass off in November . In Prague you'll have maybe 20 boys of the kind you like versus 300 or so in Thailand and thats just on one street.

Sorry I love Prague but the 2 destinations don't begin to compare if you like Twinks.

I did just take a look and between 13 1/2 - 15 hours in the seat and almost all the returns have a long layover which brings the trip to 21 hours on the way home including terminal time.

Cost the same to fly to Prague as it does to Thailand. Still no comparison in my book.

East Coast guys Prague has some pluses for travel time and fares but not west coast.

I just looked at Eva Air flights on seat guru and Premium economy looks pretty comfortable. You'll have to spend about $700 more then Prague but you'll save that easily with the price of boys being 1/2 what they are in Prague. The Hotels and food, taxis , gifts etc , all will be less expensive. And October November the weather in Thailand should be 90 not too humid and some showers usually at night only.

One last thing in favor of Thailand. There is no difference any day of the week on the number of boys available. In Prague Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the boys are much scarcer.

firecat interesting breakdown ... though i know its aimed at lurker. personally i have little interest in Prague. But even with that said you make a great case for Thailand if it were down to the two destinations.

That must be 4 hours from MIA or Texas?

It's unfortunate that Tokyo is so expensive and difficult to navigate by unguided tourists. It would make a great layover to break the Thailand trip. There seems to be good escort availability at reasonable rates but language and street navigation seem to be issues as well as cost of accommodations.

What Firecat has said is the truth. The costs for me are always higher in Brazil and in Prague. ALWAYS. Even if you factor in the airfare. I love Brazil but the rates for hotels are nuts and the cost for boys are higher than Thailand. I have much more fun in a very relaxed way in Thailand. That said, I have taken the Premium Economy and it is fine. There is also the Middle Eastern Airlines that have Premium Economy that cuts the trip up into two segments.

My current trip, I book first class on Korean Air for 4,000 USD. No miles need. First/Business all the way in its new A380 jumbo. An amazing experience. Then I got the Holiday Inn Express for 60 a night that included breakfast and Internet and it was next to all the shops so no taxis during the day. Cost to go to gay bar area, 2USD. Round trip 5 USD with tips.

I love Thailand and I love Brazil but Thailand is cheaper by far than the other places people go for boys!
