You will not even need to visit the Brazilian Consulate for a visa. You do not say which country of residence you are. The below link is to an official site for Brazil that explains a major change for getting Brazilian visas. Assuming you are a resident of one of the countries listed in the article, you will be able to get your Brazil visa online.
