The weather is not helping, it is more rainy than usual. It is not only me, the locals are also complaining about it. However, this week I was able to enjoy A LOT a walk around the Jardin Botánico de Medellín. It is a beautiful park very well kept and with exotic flowers everywhere. There is also a lagoon with turtles and iguanas. I spent several hours walking around and loved it. The entire park is designed to make a learning experience from your visit. There were too many little and big details to share, like for instance mirrors to observe the top of the trees without stressing your neck. I do share this feature that I found specially appealing.

Unfortunately, heavy rain caught me. Or fortunately, because I had to look for shelter and ended up in one of the two restaurants located inside the park. The food was good, but the drink was just gorgeous, one of the best strawberry daiquiris I ever tried.

It was delightful to have lunch on the restaurant deck, surrounded by nature and with the rain tapping on the awning. To give you an idea of how convenient local prices are, the bill, including the service, was only 23 bucks.
The park closes at 4pm, but I noticed modern lighting arrangements throughout the entire layout. They probably rent the place or organize night events. I imagine is astonishingly beautiful at night with those lighting designs. But I had to run away because I did not have repellent and the mosquitos were devouring me. 
I had planned to stop by Hotel Roma after my stroll, as it is located at walking distance from the Jardín Botánico. I called Fercho but he did not respond. As it was raining again, I called an Uber and went back home. When I was in the Uber Fercho called me back. This delay was just bad luck and very unusual. Since then we have talked and texted many, many times, and his responses have always been immediate. He was in Cali and was going to stay there for two weeks. I will give more details later in this post.
The other experience I enjoyed this week was the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín. The MAMM is across the street from my airbnb, so it is the perfect plan for these rainy days.

The surroundings are full of car dealers and car body shops, traces of what this area used to be before they started to build 30 stores towers with swimming pool and sauna. I wonder how long all those shops will be able to survive the raise in real state value. I like walking randomly and picking any popular bodega that shows up in my way.

a few thoughts as it’s my first time here:
Museums: Museos del Banco de la República is a charming and beautiful little museum. It wasn’t too crowded. Food: I did the fancy stuff. Leo and El Chato which are yeh two highest rated Colombian restaunts at #54 and #72 on the 100 best restaurants of the world list. They were fine. I’ll chalk it up to I’m not the biggest fan of Colombian food in general 😳.  Harry Sasson was a standout tho. It’s an OG of the dining scene I’m told and it’s worth going for the beautiful room and the tortilla española and heart of palm salad alone. It’s very old Colombia… waiters in jackets, white tablecloths, excellent service, beautiful traditional room. But it wasn’t fussy. The other standout was La Puerta Falsa Restaurant. It’s tiny, 200+ years old and worth the hype. Yes it’s in all the guidebooks and yes you have to wait in line but the anjiaco and hot chocolate were soooooo good. I wanted a tamal too so I ordered one but it was way too much food. I couldn’t finish it and felt really guilty like a wasteful gringo. Just know that portions are huge if you go.
Shopping: there has been one store that blew me away, it’s called St Dom. It only carries high end Colombian designers and they are both cutting edge and really high quality. I was super impressed. My experience with Colombian design is the quality is a little missing and the design is pretty basic. St Dom changed my mind. It’s in a beautiful space. The staff are helpful, flirty and charming. One guy who was managing particularly so. I said I’d go back and he gave his number. He had a great personality that won me over so that’ll happen (maybe tonight!)

I arrived yesterday night, but I was too tired to go out. Today, I went to Clube 11 and I loved it.
