  1. Jesus' wife was a very holy woman who wore a veil to cover her hair and never raised her voice. She was a model of happiness as well as cleanliness, and why not? Cleanliness was next to godliness, and she sure was!
  2. It's rare that a birthday gets missed around here, but shocking that the 30th birthday of the emoticon may have gone unnoticed had I not seen the story on the NY Daily News. The happy face has become a universally loved symbol, and spawned many a child. Think how unhappy it would have looked had we ignored it! The News reports: The computer symbol for “not serious” or now more generally “happiness,” made up of a colon, dash and a right parenthesis, was born into existence at 11:44 a.m. on September 19, 1982, when it was posted on an online bulletin board by Carnegie Mellon computer scientist Scott Fahlman. “If someone made a sarcastic remark, a few readers would fail to get the joke, and each of them would post a lengthy diatribe in response,” Fahlman explained in a post on Carnegie Mellon’s website about the invention of the sideways smile. “The problem caused some of us to suggest (only half seriously) that maybe it would be a good idea to explicitly mark posts that were not to be taken seriously,” he added. “In the midst of that discussion it occurred to me that the character sequence :-) would be an elegant solution ... So I suggested that.” Fahlman also suggested the reverse — what has come to be known as a sad face — by using the other parenthesis marker. Read more: http://www.nydailyne...2#ixzz26yhHhuNr

    I'm not gay

A friend of mine says he is not gay, but he gave me his memoirs to read, and I can tell you: He's gay. Aside from that, remember that some people are sex addicts. Any living thing will do for some of them. Okay, any living human.
  4. Why would anyone give Peggy Noonan the time of day? I doubt that anyone listens to her.
  5. The LA Times today saves me the task of writing my review as it presents a lengthy article, with pictures, on the show: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...,4044722.story The bf and I enjoyed the show last week. My addition to the Times article would be to commend Telly Leung on his excellent performance, Lea Salonga on her excellent voice, and the supporting cast, including in particular Michael K. Lee as a very able actor who plays Salonga's love interest in the show. No one cared, or so it seems, about the internment of Japanese-Americans during the war, so it may be a hard to task to find an audience who cares, especially if the show wants a Broadway move. It's kind of like the gay play which we all find endearing, but cannot make a hit of it without broader support. Allegiance will no doubt undergo some modifications as they figure what works best and what doesn't. For my part, the songs seemed interchangeable with the standard Broadway anthems. I walked away, not humming a tune, but thinking what a powerful voice Salonga has. Given that the show has some heavy moments, it did seem long, even though it clocked out at 2:10 with intermission. The audience gave it a standing ovation, which is more common out here than in New York. One footnote: Also in the cast is Paolo Montalban, who plays the controversial figure Mike Masaoka, who was, in effect, the Japanese uncle Tom. Yet Montalban once played the Prince in a Disney movie of Cinderella, and had gay hearts swooning across America. He is still cute, but his boyish charm is now the property of Telly, who has it in spades. 7. Those major leaguers do know how to show appreciation to their teammates!
  8. Their shape has always been an attraction for me. I love to rim guys with candy corn up their ass. That's a trick and treat!
  9. This college football player was kicked off his team when his teammates saw him kissing his boyfriend- his 65 year old boyfriend! The facts: http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2012/09/10/college-football-player-kicked-off-team-after-he-outs-himself-to-team-during-a-game
  10. You two need to get a room!
  11. Just in time for the Halloween season, the Oreo cookie is going orange! Yes, candy corn orange. Instead of that milky white flavor, they are giving us the famed candy corn flavor from our days of trick or treating. I don't eat Oreos, but I did once like candy corn. One has to be careful in buying it, because as with most things these days, they use high fructose corn syrup to sweeten it, and candy corn is best when made with sugar. I might even buy one of these candy corn Oreos! The new taste treat:
  12. Well, I am officially a diagnosed heterosexual. When I was young and feeling conflicted about my attractions, I went to a psychiatrist, aptly named Dr. Miracle. He said that if I was gay, I would have acted on it by then, which meant I would have had gay sex, and I had not. So I felt better for about ten minutes, until my gay lust started popping up again.
  13. Today's NY Times reminds us that the Supreme Court will be having a say in this election: "In the last few weeks, nearly a dozen decisions in federal and state courts on early voting, provisional ballots and voter identification requirements have driven the rules in conflicting directions, some favoring Republicans demanding that voters show more identification to guard against fraud and others backing Democrats who want to make voting as easy as possible. The most closely watched cases — in the swing states of Ohio and Pennsylvania — will see court arguments again this week, with the Ohio dispute possibly headed for a request for emergency review by the Supreme Court."

    Looks A Like?

We can see many threads that received no responses at all. Are we being told that our thread is utterly boring? Prabal Gurung In TIME Started by Lucky, Yesterday, 02:06 PM HAL 9000 Simulator Started by AdamSmith, 07 Sep 2012 Cover Me 2 Times Baby Started by FourAces, 06 Sep 2012
  15. What was missing from my comment above was a photo representation of my tongue in my cheek. I guess that one can be too dry on the internet. My point was that we have a Supreme Cort that once tasted the heady power of picking the president, and that now they know the thrill, so look for them to go to any length to do it again. Sure, the electoral college should be just fine, but then, we thought that the state of Florida should be able to count their votes.
  16. The John Roberts Supreme Court will decide that the electoral college is unconstitutional, thus allowing the Court to pick the next president. You didn't think that once having done it they wouldn't want to do it again?
  17. In the thread about paid media, we discuss various discounts we get from the print media, no doubt in an attempt to keep advertising revenues up. But, I got a really good offer from TIME magazine- 170 issues for $40, plus a cheap clock. It's already paying off, as my first issue has an interview with designer Prabal Gurung that made my day. Not that I had ever heard of him. He is an Asian-American designer who has had a rapid rise, now showing his own label. But the interview was impressive to me not for what it says about women's fashion, but what it shows about this intelligent young man. For example, he is asked: "Paul Ryan has caught flak for his ill-fitting shirts. How would you make him over?" Now there's a softball question! What does he do with it? Prabal: "It's a fun question, but I'm conflicted about answering it. I wish people would pay more attention to who he is and what policies he supports." Me too. To see the whole interview with this guy, who makes me better about the future of the country, see: http://www.time.com/...2123821,00.html (Oops. Subscribers only. Well, it is the back page of the September 17th issue, so read it online at the grocery!) Well, here's another story about him, including the fact that he is openly gay, and including a cute pic: http://style.mtv.com...rung-backstage/
  18. I had to Google fromunda. Never heard of it before, nor had the stain. And, not to be too picky, the First Amendment- yes, it is usually capitalized, probably not necessarily, but anyway, it is to the founding document, not in. So we are speaking of an amendment to the founding document, not an amendment in it. The founding document itself said nothing about free speech. And even the First Amendment only restricted Congress from abridging free speech in laws it wrote. It took the Supreme Court to make it apply broadly. So, even if Mr. Burns had read the Constitution and its Amendments, he might not know that the amendment applied beyond Congress.
  19. The WSJ, for all of its business appeal, used to print some hard-hitting investigative pieces that took no prisoners. I would buy the paper for those. Now, under Murdoch, it's a rare day when any story shows imagination beyond the norm.
  20. I love print news, but find that reading on the computer is easier on my eyes. When did they make the print so small? Well, I really can still read it. As for subscriptions, you get the online free with a print subscription. So I have indeed been lucky. I get the Sunday LA Times for 19 cents. That's right. It was a special for one year, and I was surprised to find that they automatically renewed it at the same rate. The Wall Street Journal came for $99 a year, which gives you about 300 issues, so some 30 cents an issue. But renewal time is here and they want $215 a year- too much for me, especially with Murdoch increasingly making the paper a FOX News subsidiary. The NY Times was at half-price for years. They recently stopped it, but when the bf and I were in New York, there was a booth at Century 21, offering six months at half-price. The bf signed up for it, and they gave us a $50 gift card to use at the store. Hopefully they will renew that one too.
  21. Brendon Ayanbadejo, a linebacker for the NFL Baltimore Ravens, has been told to shut up on gay rights. But indirectly. A Maryland House of Delegates member, Emmett C. Burns, Jr., has asked the owner of the team to shut his player up. Brendon Ayanbadejo has been active in the NoH8 movement, and now says: "I have to thank him more than anything for bringing national attention to the issue," USA Today reports. I don't know if Ayanbadejo is gay, but he sure would be welcome: Read more: http://www.towleroad.../#ixzz25oLlmA4o

    SYTYCD shocker

This is going to fucking ruin my day. Why did I read past the disclaimers? Damn. I was so foolish to ignore the warnings. i guess I got what I deserved then.
  23. Congratulations on your new puppies!
  24. Google, Inc. has refused to unlock an alleged pimp's cellphone powered by its Android software- even after the FBI obtained a search warrant, the Wall Street Journal reports today. It's about time someone tried to draw a line between what the government thinks it can do and what it is legally entitled to do. Recent news since 9-11 has been about how anxious companies were to turn over consumer records to the government. Privacy was quickly dying. So it's nice to see Google step up for a fight.
