I thought I’d put in some thoughts on here about my experiences since Brazil opened its borders on July 29. The last time I was in Brazil was the first week of April, some days after Brazil closed its borders to foreigners due to the coronavirus cutting through the planet. I remember those days, as the BF and I were stuck quarantining near Paulista Ave in Sao Paulo , with everything closed except for some restaurants and grocery stores, and the streets were more or less empty.  A far cry from my stay over Carnaval in February. That was when Brazil identified its first ever case of coronavirus.  People weren’t freaking out back then, with all the festivities and general drunkeness, and COVID just seemed to be something benign, versus what we are experiencing now.
I’ve had a Google alert for the words “Brazil estrangeiros” ever since I came back from that April trip. Yes, the virus has been wreaking havoc on the world’s people and economies, but I was eager to come back, even with the known, and mostly unknown, risks, complicated by Brazil’s own inability to contain its own pandemic. I figure that the measures taken by Brazil are not any more worse than the ones taken by home country anyway (the good ole USA), and I’d rather be stuck in someplace fun and exotic, whatever that means nowadays, in the age of COVID.
The Google alert came up with a lot these past 5 months, including the 4 different times Brazil had prolonged its closure to foreigners.  But finally, in late July, came the Google Alert that mentioned the reopening, but not before getting some more alerts on conflicting reports mentioning a prolongation of the closure.  After a quick chat with the BF,, we decided it was worth me going, and soon, so I quickly booked 3 possible flights to Brazil as soon as I could be free to fly from California: a Delta award redemption connecting through Atlanta, and United and American Airlines paid flights that were both in the $450 economy roundtrip connecting through Houston and Miami, respectively.  Within the 24-hour refund period, I cancelled Delta and AA, and after some minor date adjustments, found a $2100 RT Business Class ticket on United. That cost would have been unheard of pre-COVID, but in the new economy, beggars can be airlines.
For good measure, I booked 2 other RT on United to Sao Paulo in September and October, taking advance of the $450 price tag.  With their change fee waiver still in effect till July 31, I can amend the dates later without any change fees.
With all the news that was circulating about the reopening, there were two things I thought I needed to be able to enter Brazil: Medical Insurance without COVID exceptions, and a recent negative COVID test. I bought the Travel Insurance from Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, which cost be $95 for my entire stay (plus a few days), and also got a COVID test which I received the results in 2 days with a PDF letter saying I tested negative. I made printed copies for both, in case they didn’t accept copies in my phone.
I’ve flown a number of times during this COVID era, and have become accustomed to the extra precautions the airlines and passengers were taking. I particularly commend Delta for sticking to their guns in ensuring no one was sitting next to you in First Class, as well a blocking the middle seats in Economy. So, to my surprise, after checking the seat map for my flight, found a fairly full United fight with most middle seats taken. Luckily most of business was still open so maybe I won’t have to sit with anyone.  United really is cheaping out on this.
Since I am not a Brazilian citizen or resident (yet), I could not retrieve my boarding pass as usual via the United app, and had to go to the check-in counter for a travel document check, even if I didn’t have any checked luggage. At the airport, the check-in counter person asked if I had “a medical card”. I gave her the printed PDF of the insurance details. She took her time flipping through the pages, until I interrupted her, pointing to the front page with the specific dates of coverage/travel. That seemed to please her and she issued me my boarding pass.
COVD times meant not as many long lines at the airport. Downside of this is sometimes the TSA Pre-check dedicated lines are consolidated with the regular lines. At the flight gate, boarding was also by row number, with the rear of the aircraft getting boarded first. Everyone at the airport was wearing a mask, and the gate agents made sure everyone was wearing one, and properly, when entering the aircraft.
Before boarding, the gate agent informed everyone that if one did not have a Brazilian passport, they needed to get their medical insurance confirmed with the gate agents.  Again? Oh well. About 30 of us made a “social distancing” line to get our documents checked at the counter. About the time half of the line had their check, everyone who had a Brazilian passport were already boarded. They were really taking their time checking documents.  When it was my turn, the agent again took her time flipping through the pages until I pointed to the dates of coverage. She took my paper boarding pass and stamped “International Documents Verified – IAH”. Maybe this stamp was available at check-in and I did not have to get in line? 

Economy was almost full, Business was half full, with some seats blocked off for the flight attendants to rest. There was alcohol on board, but was in those little "hotel minibar" bottles instead of the usual bigboy liquor bottles. Business meals were a little bit spartan and brought all at once, but more than I expected during these time.  I had the salmon:

The one thing I had difficulty with was sleeping with both a nose/mouth mask, AND an eye mask on, since I need it to be completely dark to sleep. I think it took me 2 hours of tossing and turning before I got used to having my whole face pretty much covered in an uncomfortable way.  The new normal.
At immigration, my immigration officer asked more than the usual questions that I usually got. What is the purpose of your trip? How many days are you staying? Have you lived in Brazil before? Where is your medical insurance? I showed him the printed insurance copy, and proactively pointed to the dates of coverage lines, and again this seemed to please him. Another addition: he put the exact number of days of my stay on the entry stamp, so I guess I can’t stay longer in Brazil than what was written on the stamp. Good thing I put in more days in the insurance document than I planned, in case I wanted to stay longer. He didn’t ask to see my return ticket though, so he had no proof I was exactly leaving in those number of days. We will see.
And no one asked for my COVID test. I guess I was misinformed there.

Rio... where to begin.  I guess I’ll start at the with some travel information and move on from there.  I took United going and Delta coming back.  I was honestly dreading the 9.5 hour flight but I ended up getting an upgrade to an emergency exit row seat which made the flight much easier. (I’m 6’4 anything less would have been torcher). First let me say that I did bring my own weed from American in my carry on and the process couldn’t have been simpler.  I rolled up about an OZ of MJ into blunts put it in a bag and vacuumed sealed it. Made it through 3 flights without issue.  Did I take a little unnecessary risk... probably but that CDD weed is trash and so I’m glad I had my stash. I booked two air b&b both in Copa 10 minutes from 202 and had no problem with guest so if you need a recommendation lmk. 
Now to the Saunas... I arrived on Sunday around 2pm once unpacked I headed straight for the beach as the weather was reporting constant rain for the next 3-4 days. So I rolled up a joint and headed to the beach for a few hours.  This is when I realized Rio has some of the most beautiful people in the world.  There was one guy extremely dark skinned with a body chiseled from the gods!  He was selling Caipirinha so of course I bought one and took a picture with him.  My god he was simply amazing.  Around 6pm I left the beach went home got showered, cleaned up and headed to 117. Before I got there I stopped at an ATM, now this is VERY important.  Unlike most countries I have visited the ATMs in Brazil ask if you would like to convert your money before withdrawing, DO NOT DO IT! Where the current exchange rate is .23 for one real it changes to .28-.30 cent if you choose the first option.  Just decline and you will be given a second option which is the more favorable exchange rate. Now back to the good stuff.   The moments of walking up to 117 were nerve recking because despite all my reading I had no idea what to expect, well I walked in and was immediately greeted by two guys just flapping their dicks around.  They were not my type in the least but it got me warmed up to what to expect over the course of my trip. So I walked in got changed and started wondering around. I felt so out of place my first visit! I wasn’t overly attracted to any of the guys and felt a little disappointed. This is the half way mark of my trip and where I stop for the moment.  One last piece of advice is if you plan on bringing many guys back to your place like I did I would strongly suggest getting more than one bedroom.  You should have at least two! The bad reports on the new Espaço Lagoa just keep coming.
A friend of a very close friend of mine went to the new Espaço Lagoa again last night.  
While there, he said he was again not comfortable with the multi-level sauna, the small crowded spaces, and the incessant stairs. He also commented on the porn room. He said this room can only hold about six people.
But wait! It gets even worse!
Then, he said that Rodolfo told him that he had a “solution” to the crowding of the new, smaller Lagoa. Rodolfo’s Brainiac business solution is that he is now prohibiting all garotos 30 years old and above from working at Espaço Lagoa.
Needless to say, this friend of a friend — who prefers more masculine garotos with athletic builds — was shocked and very disappointed at Rodolfo's decision.
I and most of the clients I associate with think that this age restriction is absolutely ridiculous, and that it will be the death knell of what was once a premier, if not the premier, sauna. Especially for us clients that exclusively want masculine and muscular garotos, our needs and interests would no longer be met at this new Lagoa  For example, most competitive athletic physiques — the type that I would often find a few years ago at the old Lagoa — don’t peak until after 30! Passing of an era. The old Lagoa occupied a bigger part of my life and psyche than I would have thought. I've been to other saunas in Brazil and I know there's a strong contingent of Rio fans, but for me, nothing was as pleasant or delivered so reliably on each and every visit as the original Lagoa on the street by that name.

I haven't posted in a while, several years if anyone is counting, but decided that the new Lagoa opening is a too big event to pass, and I'm sorry to say it was quite a disappointment. Not that I expected to be anything close of its former self, it would be unrealistic, but it supposedly took months, if not years, looking for a place and they settle for something completely wrong. What sets Lagoa apart was always the ambience, boys come and go, there was good night's and bad nights but the vibe of the place was always there. The heart of the new place, the area where the stage and the main bar is located looks like a medium size office with low ceilings and claustrophobic atmsophere located at an intersection of stairs, filled with cheap hard plastic furniture. Unlike 117, Point or even Fragata, there is not an comfortable seat to relax and watch boys by, and worse, if you have an eye on a boy, which you probably do, he might easily have escaped to 2 flights up or down and soon you will realize you are doing stairs all the time. Both saunas are bad, the dry one looks like a closet, the sound system is horrible and will never be fixed, is not possible in an office space. The dressing area is tiny, if you wanna sit to tie your shoes you will have to wait for your turn. Not to be unfair and say everything was horrible, the rooms were adequate for a sauna and the showers were  good and new, the boys selection was very weak, but is certainly might happen anywhere. I still don't think it will fail cause at the moment there is no competition in Sao Paulo, which makes the right time to somebody start something new. The top boys, if they ever come around, could easily be persuaded to go elsewhere. The location I think is more Higienópolis than Consolação, probably on the intersection. I paid R$60,00 on a Sunday and was told it would be R$65,00 if charge.

First of all and before anyone says anything, let me point out that my anxiety is getting better. This time I am opening a thread "only" two months before starting the trip.
It is booked. I am flying American, the ticket was about U$S 800-900. I convinced two friends from Daddy's (one of them was my trip partner to CDMX last April) to join me. I thought, if  had so much fun by myself, imagine if we are a group. They are planning hiking excursions I am not going to join. I am planning days in the beach and orgies. We will meet in the saunas I am sure.
We rented a 4 BRs Airbnb about two blocks away from the place I rented in July, in Copacabana, close to Posto 5. It costed about U$S 100 each. The description for the place states that parties are allowed, so I am already having quite intense fantasies.

I am not in Brazil as I write this.  This information is based on a phone call I had yesterday from a Brazilian friend I have known many years who lives in Sao Paulo.   He goes to Lagoa often.  
First - number one - 
Rodolfo has been upset about the lease on Lagoa expiring and having to move the sauna to a different location (it costs money). 
As a result, Rodolfo has been eating a lot out of frustration and has gained almost fifteen kilos since the new facility negotiations began.  My friend said Rodolfo now walks around the sauna with a big belly and had to buy new trousers that would fit him.  When I last saw Rodolfo a little more than one month ago, he did not have a big belly.    
Second - number two - 
There is finally an agreement reached on a new facility for Lagoa - Therefore, for those who thought Lagoa would go out of business, stop thinking about it - it is not going to happen.  
Third - number three - 
There will an announcement made soon advising clients and garotos about the move and the location address which appears to be set for sometime in October.  A confirmation (advertisement) will be sent to verify the actual move date and location.  
After the move takes place, those who know Rodolfo, please tell him to lay off the ice cream and cookies - the weight he gained is not becoming on him according to my friend who reported this information to me yesterday.

The suite was very roomy, much better than the one I got in 202. We did not waste time, as soon as we closed the door, we started to make out passionately. He was the first sauna GP that did not need to clean his ass for me. He was ready to bottom, a very good sign. He did well, the first sauna GP I fuck and I feel he is enjoying it and not doing me a favor. An additional extra good point for him: I do not even know whether or not the room had a TV to play porn, he did not need it, and made me feel he was actually into me. I would not say this was excellent sex, but was good, the best I had so far in the sauna setting. I think I like more 202. Please, notice I have been very few times (once in 117 and twice in 202) in these saunas to have a strong opinion. I am sharing just my initial impression. I prefer 202 layout although 117 seems to have better quality facilities. I like that the boys in 202 seem to concentrate in the downstairs bar making it easier to see the offer, while the guys in 117 are spread all over the place and sometimes just flash through the bar without paying much attention to the folks hanging out over there. It looks like the guys in 117 are less in the Twink side and more in gym joke type, with many body builders. They also seem to come from a less challenged social background than the boys in 202. Something that definitively like more in 202 is that all the boys are working the clients, paying attention to you and trying to get a programa. In 117 at least half of the boys struck me as divas waiting for you to go to them. 
If possible, I will go again to 117 tonight (please anyone let me know if these are not the right choices) and my last night here, tomorrow Saturday, to 202. Let's see if that is enough to turn my impressions in strong opinions.
Last night I slept like a baby. I was exhausted. Right now I am waiting for Diego, it is going to be our third day together. Hopefully we will go today to the beaches in Copacabana and Ipanema.
By the way, I just remembered one of tomcat's comments about the sauna boys. He points out how affectionate they may be in private, as opposite to no public demonstrations of affection at all. This was true in my interaction with Marcelo back in December, in Salvador. However, it is not an accurate description in Diego's case. I am making this point not to argue with tomcal (I would not dare) but to highlight how special Diego is. When we are riding Uber around, he always makes sure his leg is strongly against mine, and holds my hand. He has also held my hand in public when we were having lunch in Praia de Grumari.

I think that the net ad volume has grown quite a bit in 3 years. I follow them frequently and have only occasionally seen cross-over with the GdeP inventory in the clubs we frequent, never a Rio gogo but a few São Paulo gogos.

Has anyone other than me quietly observed outdoors the skittishness of program guys about being seen heading to 117? They are usually more comfortable at the busy corner, but there is no way many of them would be 'caught dead' entering a gay brothel, say, beside eatery Braseirinho just up from Vila Rica dining and across from other small but packed outdoor social venues. What with the cray-cray pop-up sidewalk seating busy evenings.
Some guys approach from the west. Others do a quick surveillance. Discretion is important. Not sure Srs M or E have ever noticed this trend. Many clubs have low-exposure access.
The Lion's corner is less saturated but the building design suggests the entrance is within view of two small corner eateries with pop-up sidewalk seating or standing with a snack and beverage, irrespective of the approach from Augusto Severino or easterly on Joaquim Silva. La Paris drinks and snacks named for the park, and Bico de Ouro full meals. The club entrance is also possibly visible from two other social gathering eateries on the opposite side of narrow Joaquim Silva.
 

Although it does not happen often, sauna lockers get robbed.  Sometimes by a client with a pass key to the cheap locks that are on the sauna lockers.  Sometimes by an employee of the sauna.  Theft at the saunas just goes with the territory.  
Even at Lagoa I had my locker burglarized once.  All that was taken was money.  The thief was nice enough to leave enough for me to pay my sauna fees.   I did not see the thief.
However, at a different sauna in Sao Paulo (that later went out of business) I happened to go to the locker room at the same time a sauna employee had my locker door open and had already stolen most  of my money that was in my locker.   I looked at the sauna employee and asked him why he was in my locker.  He said he had entered it by mistake.  
Incredibly, the employee that had unlawfully entered my locker, now works at Lagoa.  I am sure the thieving employee recalls the incident and remembers me.    
Whenever he sees me at Lagoa, he nevers speaks or says hello.  Instead, when he passes me, he puts his head down and looks at the floor.  The scoundrel!
So, to answer your question, you take a chance on leaving anything of value in your locker at the saunas.  I still leave money in my locker but I do not leave my phone there.  I never pay by credit card so I do not have any credit cards in the locker.

I hope Rodolfo keeps the gym equipment. It is convenient to get a basic improvised workout scheduled in when you are waiting for Mr. Right Now. 

Lion's Club, I was told today they "expect it to open some where between the 10th and the 15th of this month! They have been doing a lot of renovations and I was told the sound systems and lighting were the most expensive part!
 Also Lagoa in Sao Paulo will be moving in December to a 3 Story Building. They are presently on a month to month lease. The new building is not as large as what they are in now!

There is no change in location for Lagoa finalized yet.  Nothing has worked out so far for locking in a new location.  
It seems greed and stinginess are at play in a possible new location for Lagoa. 
As of now - the lease is gone - However, Lagoa is staying put - month-to-month - 
A few places that looked promising have not been locked in. 
Therefore, anyone going to Lagoa should check the address unless ads and their website notify of any move. 
Who knows, the month-to-month might turn into years.

Wow his adopted parents really dropped the ball by not getting him US citizenship at the time he was adopted.  Their explanation of why they didn’t makes zero sense - why would he need to be old enough to “fully participate in the decision?”
