As I understand it, if I have this right, forum member S posted a trip report some weeks ago, including details about a service provided by advertiser G. Eventually member D backchatted with S to discuss the S-G transaction, seemingly innocent enough. [I have altered some cap letters in a way that does not undermine tracking the event sequence] D subsequently engaged with G, stating and using his social connection with S in order to extract service playbook details, etc, information-seeking that someone like G might have handled differently had D simply been one inquirer among a horde of inquirers to which those in G’s service industry would be ordinarily accustomed. But then D had evidently pushed so hard and so inappropriately for information, attention, what have you, from G that G took time from his service schedule to castigate S for putting D onto him. This inevitably eroded S’s social capital with G, perhaps extending beyond due to service network interactions. Meanwhile, it appears that D could, or expected to, walk away unscathed. In actuality, D could have reached out to any number of players in G’s service industry … without manipulatively prevailing upon any forum member for the purposes of seeking an ‘in’ with the hope/goal of enhanced attention from (a) specific service provider(s). S naturally and justifiably related this ugly experience on the forum, stimulating a discussion regarding how to handle sensitive information in the context of a forum in which some members’ behaviour and motives surrounding such information cannot be reliably predicted. It seems the plot then thickens as it appears that, not surprisingly, D quickly re-emerged as O. There may be other capital letters representative of players involved, given the flexibility within the forum for altering handles. However, S has only ever been S. S, and most of us in fact, view the prerogative of changing handles as legitimate. However, this happened very quickly, the incident funeral meats still lukewarm, and S perhaps still understandably wishing for, one, some kind of accounting from D/O+, and, two, desiring to alert other members regarding an established interloper’s pattern of ingratiating himself with others with the likely intent of repeating the kind of behaviour and trust-engendering that ultimately bit S in the ass. When S then initiated an exchange with O regarding an accounting of D’s behaviour that COULD be attributable to O, on the assumption D=O, it seems that O responded as if S was being inappropriately unwelcoming of new members, as if in fact S were being persecutory. This was puzzling and suspect because O could have carried on with his stated ‘new’ membership agenda without feeding the assumption he was, in fact, the original interloper D. His aim, apparently, was to split the forum membership into camps, hoping to conquer S, S being representative of decorum regarding how members handle information about service providers. S has naturally persisted in drawing attention to these dynamics because in addition to having been manipulated regarding the original G information scenario, he is reacting to apparent attempts made by the interloper to hoodwink him and the forum at large. I do believe that S may have cards yet to play, has alluded to such, and wishes to utilize his evidentiary data judiciously. At this point, an overt admission from O as to identity and troublemaking history is not required by SOME of us, according to our tolerance level for ambiguity. The membership IS divided, has capitulated to an interloper’s shenanigans, as some are blind to the unfortunate set of events, some may support D’s actions pursued with impunity because they have unique forbearance or would be inclined to replicate such behaviour themselves to a degree, or some may think S’s patient steadfastness is beyond the pale. The latest response trend seems to be that S bears more the brunt of responsibility for the spicy dynamics that have emerged regarding a theme that should be relevant to all us. Perhaps this is partly a result of the identity ambiguity already referred to. Sure, we all want more entertaining and salutary posts to read, but there is a process within social media that often calls for an accounting of behaviour. Personally, unlike a number of others, I don’t mind the back and forth among key players within this whole scenario. Like anyone else, I can calibrate my degree of attention to the narrative. If I have it wrong, if D=O is untrue, I see such a judgement as a natural artefact of human error. However, a ‘Hakim’s razor’ application to the thread content leads me to believe that S’s conclusions are supportable. He did something intending to be graciously accommodating and the cascade effect is a forum malignancy not of his making. I suggest pausing and taking stock of where most of the sucking up one side of the system and shitting down the other side of the system is actually occurring.

You/he (considering I MAY be hidden … yeah right LOL) posted the original rant; it was extant in the public domain. Some board members read it and observed it as a reflection of your/his psyche. The only possible use of it against you/him had already been actualized … by you/him yourself/himself and only you/him. The breadth of observation is moot. It’s content had not been an appreciable departure from the ongoing pattern of perseverating regarding your/his experiences of the dynamics here, that many think you/he have brought on yourself/himself and that you/he persistently reinforce. Whatever the specific content, this ‘Georgie Peorgie put upon pie’ is the consistent thread running through your/his posts. Methinks there’s protest too much. It’s not out of whack to consider that this is your/his fun and that you/he alone boldly stakes a claim to the privilege of less than complete accuracy. This is the nature of the game set up by interlopers and there can be no truly reciprocal honesty. I would only ever want to be strategically isomorphic in relation to a born devious manipulator.

I’m not posting it and that was never my intent, as I clearly pointed out. However, you just conceded it existed, only because you have been caught out, and various other members don’t even need to collaboratively triangulate perceptions behind the scenes in order to be on to you. The only point proven here is that you were posing at being dumbfounded, a signature manipulative move. You are simply too impulsive to be good at this. My sense is that you are deluded enough to think you are always a few steps ahead of everybody else when, in fact, you lamely limp along. You can have the last word if you must. What typically would be a superficial and fragile self-indulgence for most may be of tremendous psychological value to you.

Oh I really liked this film, and could relate to some of it experientially, obviously on the ‘nancy’ side of things and in terms of navigating boundaries, not really client repression. Can’t say much more without plot-spoiling. I must catch up with Peaky Blinders where DM is listed in the cast of Seasons 5 & 6. I think I left off at the end of 2 or 3, will have to look at the episode synopses to determine where to jump back in.

It’s on Amazon Prime, in Canada anyway, included in the annual subscription. I just downloaded it. I don’t think we get Hulu up here but certain Hulu productions land in Prime or sometimes our Crave channels, which seem conjoined to HBO and Starz. I’ll never sort it out. But if I want to search a production up here I use an app called JustWatch; it seems to automatically outline production access for Canada specifically.

Good point. I received primary Yellow Fever vaccination at 65, weighing the risks and benefits. It was also a lot easier to interface with a nurse and be in and out quickly. I had still been waiting for the province to assign me a primary care physician through the provincial health care system. Eventually enrolled in a fee-for-service practice. I had also recovered from a sobering fluke bout of dengue acquired in Rio 2 years previously. The risks are also not literally, say, 10-fold comparing age 59 and age 60. The PAHO has declared an emergency alert even if the WHO does not decide such a similar status next week. Now wondering if my upcoming Montreal-Brazil direct flight will be grounded due to epicentre status. I doubt my Imvamune certification will be worth the paper it is stamped on because it will take forever to line up these types of contingencies. It is apparently likely travel restrictions will ensue from a WHO ‘emergency of international concern’ designation. Interesting comparative tidbit: Quebec province has reported at least 20,000 new SARS-CoV-2 cases over the same period, likely an undercount, and 225 deaths.

If you have an International Certificate version for Yellow Fever vaccination it likely states 10-year expiry or ‘lifetime’. Not too long ago the World Health Council adopted a resolution such that no booster for folks in this category is obligated to enter any country; 10-year status is equivalent to lifetime. That said, many countries vaccinate to control spread domestically, not to facilitate travel of their citizens to nations with entry requirements. They may get fractionated doses that suffice as long as uptake is widespread, and receive a domestic certificate, and may need or get boosters, etc. It’s complicated and variable though this aspect is not relevant to Board members here unless they get Yellow Fever vaccination in a country with less than the international certification standard.

Phew. Enjoy Colombia. If your old passport is affixed to the vaxx certificate or immunization booklet by masking tape or staples it should still be adequate. [Teasing] If you meant that your new passport number is not the same as your old one (odd though, I think) and is not written on the certificate, you probably know to make sure your signature is on and matches in 3 locations: both passports and the certificate. Word to the wise, a certificate of vaccination to enter Colombia must be International version, not a Domestic version such as may be issued in Brazil. I suspect that if the inoculation was obtained in Colombia and if Colombia issued a Domestic version, that certificate would suffice. Saving grace was cleverly getting the YF vaxx there in this case. [I also probably erred about transiting through Panama on a flight out of Colombia. I don’t think the chances of being required to show it to go through Tocumen are greater than for flights from Brazil through Panama, wherein I have never been asked to produce it. Copa Airlines users may want to check.]

Good catch; I hope it’s been done and is moot. Though there may be worse things than São Paulo Pride Weekend. Or needing to fill an accommodations gap of a few weeks in Brazil rather than losing more than the Colombia return flight and possibly leaving money on the table for Cali and Bogotá accommodations. This is an example of where attention to detail in posting is important. The revision had mentioned “ditching Colombia” and moving up Brazil, increasing Brazil to two months, when it appears the original itinerary holds with Colombia (Cali?) this Saturday and then back to Brazil July4-Aug10. Otherwise, Brazil 2 months additively would not be met by a stay merely from May25 to now. This revision would have necessitated Yellow Fever inoculation no later than June7 if done in Brazil. One of us may have caught it earlier, had it been clear. But “ditching” is not the same as tacking on more weeks elsewhere at the front end. Foreign nationals can access it in Brazil though it could be a crapshoot requiring CPF, and an internationally recognized regimen, as opposed to an apparent domestic version that does not yield the yellow-coloured certificate or may be exclusively digital and inadequate for boarding to Colombia. Since there are only 4(?) origin countries I am pretty sure I would have missed this detail myself had I planned some years ago a trip to Brazil that included Colombia immediately subsequent to Brazil. I fly from Colombia through Panama this year and expect I may be asked to produce it for the first time ever, though I believe it’s not needed for less than 6 hours airside at Tocumen or perhaps just remaining airside even longer and not entering the country through airport border control.
